Where will I find the best burger/shake meal in Orlando?. Not interested in Burger King/McD etc but proper sit down places like Denny's and Shoneys would be fine. I hear the B-Line Diner is recommended but is a tad expensive. I want to experience a real American Burger Meal with proper shakes. Thanks

Hello,

My favourite is Johnny Rockets at the Pointe Orlando. The burgers and shakes there are my favourite. Its usually one of my first stops when I arrive in Orlando.

all the best

Steak 'n Shake gets my vote - the shakes in particular are good. Inexpensive too.

I would also heartily recommend Beaches 'n Cream at The Yacht Club resort. Fab burgers and ice cream sundaes to die for.

Just a quick word on Fuddruckers...... :teeth:

FUDDRUCKERS COMING TO FESTIVAL BAY AT INTERNATIONAL DRIVE
Two New Restaurants to Open at North I-Drive Retail Entertainment Complex

ORLANDO, Fla. (October 15, 2003) - Fuddruckers and Subway have chosen Orlando's first lifestyle retail and entertainment center as the location for their newest eateries.

"The addition of the new restaurants to Festival Bay at I-Drive will provide the first full-service restaurant and two strong brands to our dining, shopping and entertainment venue," said Andrew J. Groveman, senior vice president of B.T. Orlando LP, owner and developer of Festival Bay at International Drive.

For over 17 years, Fuddruckers has been home of "The World's Greatest Hamburgers." Founded in 1980 in San Antonio, Texas, the concept was simple: offer moderately priced, high-quality hamburgers that are cooked-to-order with fresh ingredients. Guests participate in the experience by building their own sandwich from a loaded fresh produce and condiment area. Expect the hamburger eatery to open in Spring 2004 in a 5,500-square-foot space facing the waterfront at Festival Bay at I-Drive.

The mainstays of their menu are the one-half and one-third pound hamburgers, and each hamburger is made from beef that is ground fresh daily at the restaurant. The buns are also baked from scratch every day. In fact, guests can watch their entire meal being prepared from start to finish. Recently the restaurant expanded its menu by offering steak and chicken platters. Although new to its original concept, the restaurant has witnessed an incredible response from guests. For this reason, Fuddruckers promises to continue to update its menu with items that meet the criteria of being the "world's greatest" made from fresh ingredients, while enabling guests the ability to "do their own thing."

The Subway restaurant chain is an undisputed leader in the submarine sandwich category, serving fresh, great tasting, made-for-you sandwiches and salads, many of which have six grams of fat or less. Offering a healthy alternative to traditionally fatty fast food has made Subway restaurants a popular destination for health-conscious consumers.

In its 38th year of operation, Subway is the world's largest submarine sandwich chain, with more than 17,500 restaurants located in 71 countries. The chain's newest 1,300-square-foot location will open across from Father Time and Black Market Minerals at Festival Bay at I-Drive.

Notch another vote for Beaches and Cream - just thinking about those burgers and ice cream sundaes ...... :bounce: :bounce:

Beeline Diner is on a par with Beaches n' Cream price-wise, and we loved both.

It's expensive compared to Shoney's and Denny's but there's a world of difference between them !... and I wouldn't rate Shoney/Denny's particularly highly on the "authentic burger " scale.

The ( pretty close to ) authentic surroundings at Beeline are class, our two kids absolutely loved the place.......and the colouring books they were each given were better quality than most you could buy, stunning! The milk-shakes also got a very big 10/10 from DS. Service was bang on, too. Our server got one of the biggest tips on our last visit, and we'll be back again in November.

I'd always give Beaches a big UP for their Hot Chocolate though!.....don't imagine anyone could compare to them.

Another place for excellent burgers is Jungle Jim's ........... they have probably the most extensive selection of burger combinations I've ever seen ( about 100 if I recall )......don't know if you'd call the surroundings authentic, but it's a great place.

Mike,

The Beeline Diner - where dat at??

:Pinkbounc :eek: :crazy: ::yes:: :bounce:

Another vote here for the Beeline Diner - it's in the Peabody Hotel.

Excellent burgers - not toooo expensive - but definitely more expensive than McDonalds etc

I think we paid about $9 each for a huge plateful of burger, fries salad etc

Service was excellent. On our first visit to the diner (on our last trip back in April) we had been caught in an unexpected wind and rainstorm - we arrived cold, wet and hungry. Our waitress was lovely. The place wasn't too busy - it was still fairly early in the evening - so she spent a lot of time talking to us about our holiday, where we came from in the UK, which parks we had visited etc. DS (aged 14) ate everything on his plate - the waitress was so impressed she gave him a free dessert! She kept the refills coming too.

As we were about to leave - I was almost defrosted at that point! - she pressed a 'latte to go' into my hands to keep me warm on the journey back to the house!

We were so delighted with the place, we just had to make a return visit a few days later, and we asked to be seated in the same area so we could get the same waitress the next time. We did and she was just as nice the second time. I wish I could remember her name!

As you can see - we became quite fans of the place! The Peabody looks a very nice hotel - we had a quick look round while we were there.

Julie,

The Peabody Hotel - where dat at ?? ;)

LOL Beejayjay!! :hyper: You've made my day!! Btw - where did you find your clipart, son is mad keen Foo Fighters & Red Hot Chilli Peppers fan - ta ;)

I fancy trying the Beeline too (when I have also located the Peabody!).

Another vote for Jungle Jims (at Crossroads), great burgers and very reasonably priced.

Er, where is Festival Bay, am I right in thinking Sea World ish??!

Astrid :)

The Peabody is on Idrive towards Sea World. Its huge on the right (going to seaworld), pretty sure on the tower it has a bird outline.

Festival bay is up the belz end almost opposite the designers bit, BTW its huge.

The Peabody is on the right hand side as you go north on I-drive towards the Sand Creek Road junction. B-Line Diner is just fab and the menu changes 4 times a day!

Walked out of Jungle Jim's on our only visit, table was greasy and the whole place looked run-down. Didn't even bother to order and the next table were complaining that the food was lousy.

I'll be glad when Fuddruckers open - really good.

I wouldn't reccommend Denny's, Perkin's or Shoney's for burgers (in fact I wouldn't reccommend them for anything at all), think Little Chef and that's what you get.

Johnny Rocket's is good as well for burgers and shakes.

If you're ever in Northampton, Massachusetts go to Sylvester's, superb for breakfasts and burgers, shakes etc.

Best wishes

Lol

Beejayjay,

Muppet is right - there is a bird symbol on the hotel - it's a duck. Although we haven't seen it ourselves, there is a famous  duck march which takes place in the hotel lobby twice a day. The foolowing text was copied from the hotel website.

after more than 70 years, the marble fountain in the hotel lobby is still graced with ducks. Today, the mallards are raised by a local farmer and friend of the hotel. The ducks live in the fountain until they are full grown and, on retirement from their Peabody duties, are returned to the wild. The Peabody ducks march at 11:00 am and 5:00 pm daily.

juliebro........

................you're exactly there!! The famous duck march ( and it IS famous in Orlando ) takes place when the ducks come down at 11 a.m. in their PRIVATE elevator to their pond....they stay there all day and go back up at 5 p.m. the Peabody is great, well worth seeking out ( unless you're on I-Drive in which case you can't miss it.......it has a bloody great huge floodlit duck on the side!! )

Astrid...............your two little ones would LOVE The Peabody, the staff are brilliant, and as I said in my earlier post the free colouring book and pencils are to DIE FOR!!! Don't take my word, go there !

Sad to hear such negative comments about Jungle Jim's ...we used to love it at the Crossroads....I'd heard one other outlet had closed ...perhaps a sign of the times...SAD!!

Though we've seen the ducks we have never been there for the duck march. Will make sure we do next year! We were fed some misleading info last year when our waitress told us that the B-Line Diner was closing and being turned into a California Grill. I emailed SimonV on our return and thankfully he found out that it was untrue. IMO one of the great dining experiences in Orlando.

Mike230652 - it was the Crossroads branch we went to last year after seeing many reccommendations on this site, maybe we caught it on a bad day but we wouldn't try it again, it's strange how a bad experience prejudices one against something when obviously many people have enjoyed it.

Best wishes

Lol

Lol,

We've never had a bad experience at JJ's but I understand exactly what you say. You have to judge it by your own experience, we've heard one or two other comments about JJ's which were less than favourable...........maybe it's time for us to try somewhere else. Not like there's no choice in Orlando !

Oh, yes, another top notch burger was at Mythos Restaurant in IOA........... again it ain't cheap ( ! ) but great food in great surroundings.

Mike

Never eaten at Mythos, will certainly try it next year. Thanks for the tip.

Lol

Oh No! Too many good places to try!!

OK Mike - taken your word for it and put the B-Line on the list - sounds like my two will love it, thanks! :)

Think we'll try Mythos too whilst we're staying at the HRH.

Methinks I'm going to come back the size of a house with all this grub!! :)
