Best Brand for Cordless Drill???

I need some recommendations for a cordless drill. Best brand? Voltage? Ease of use? I looked at the reviews on Amazon and I am overwhelmed by the reviews. I was hoping to keep in the $100 range.

Basically, I just need it for average home repair jobs. I do have one large project--we gutted our basement due to mold and now I have an easy couple hundred screws to remove from the ceiling beams. Thanks for any advice!

I personally have a hitachi 18v paid around $100 for it and like it.

For work we use dewalt 12v/18v drills we go through a lot of them but put them through quite a bit of abuse they get left in rain, snow, mud and i have seen a few get dropped from a few stories and still survive. The 12v are lighter obviously and would be good enough for small projects around the house and normally come in a hard case with 2 batteries which is nice, I only ended up getting a hitachi because after using dewalts for so long I was fed up with the battery life on older drills and wanted to try another brand drill our company was to cheap to buy new batteries but didnt mind buying new drills maybe it was a tax write off i dont know.

I would recommend either of these brands especially dewalt as they are workhorses and can take a beating especially if it is for personal use as ours are supplied by company so people tend to not be concerned how the equipment is treated and it shows we have about 10 pallets full of broken dewalt drills where we raid them to get a broken drill going again...so if its personal use the drill should last 5-20+ years all youd have to do is buy new batteries if you use the drill lots over the years.

DeWalt 18V Cordless XRP is what I use everyday. I got the DeWalt combo pack about 3 years ago and it gets a beating and has never let me down. I paid around $1000.00 for the 9 tool pack. (DeWalt doesn't offer that combo any longer DC9PAKRA) My FIL keeps buying cheap cordless drills and goes thought them. I keep telling him as much as he has spent he should have just bought a DeWalt the first time. He also is always asking to barrow my tools, LOL sorry I do not lone out my $1000.00 tools.

There is nothing wrong with Dewalt 18v. However might I suggest something smaller and lighter for homeowner type jobs. The dewalt 18v xrp will be quite heavy if you aren't used to the weight.
I am thinking a more compact and lightweight 12volt li-ion such as the one in this link

While not a good choice for driving lots of 3 inch screws, it is perfect for small fasteners.

Also one thing to think about is what type of tool do you want. I prefer the impact driver for screwing, and use the standard drill mainly for spiral drill bits. I say this because some don't understand the difference until you try them.

I can try to give you this example...when using your standard drill for driving a screw the drill will begin to twist in your hands and you must counter this force with your wrists and arms, which if done over and over can really wear you out.
When driving screws with an impact driver the impacting motion of the tool drives the screw causing little to no twisting force back.

I will vote for a 18v li-ion makita. And I suggest getting the drill/impact driver combo kit. Take care of them and they will last as they are contractor grade quality.

I got my husband the Roybi cordless for home improvement jobs. He built a set of patio stairs with it and it did really well. I got it in a set with a hand saw, 2 batteries, charger and a cordless light. All of which he uses on a regular basis and loves. I believe the set was $139 at Home Depot.
