Best book you

Fiction : The Last Kingdom by Bernard Cornwell

Non-Fiction: A People's History of The United States by Howard Zinn (because reading it when I was 14 positively changed my entire outlook on life)

I could never choose just one!!
Anything by Stephen King. Have read most of his books more than once.
11-22-63 is great.
Again anything by Karin Slaughter or Lisa Gardner
Francine Rivers & Leisha Kelley
Just finished The Hunger Games & thought it was ok but wondering if the sequels are worth reading??????

I am on #3 right now but been bust with my classes I haven't been reading it I liked the second one but I also no matter what have to find out what happens till the bitter end:rotfl:

White Oleander by Janet Fitch is a long time favorite can't even count the number of times I've read it.

My Sisters Keeper, and pretty much anything else by Jodi Picoult, she is an amazing author.

The best book I've ever read is "Ghost Story" by Peter Straub. (Peter Straub has worked on some collaborative pieces with Stephen King.) It's so intricate, detailed and beautifully-written. I wouldn't say it's my favorite book, but it's one of the best-written books I've ever read.

My favorite book that I go back to over and over is "Little Women" by Louisa May Alcott.

The Charm School Nelson Demille

The Invisible Wall

Little Women

Jane Eyre

Special Topics in Calamity Physics by Marisha Pessl.

To Kill A Mockingbird, The Stand, The Thornbirds, Charm School, The Poisonwood Bible and am reading 11/23/63.

Several years ago there was a thread just like this. Many people said "The Stand" by Stephen King. I bought the book and loved it but my favorites are

A Prayer for Owen Meany
Harry Potter Series
To Kill a Mockingbird
The Adventures of Huckleberry Fin
Hobbit/Lord of the Rings
The Green Mile

Now I need to check into Hunger Games

As a youth my favorite was Jules Verne's Journey to the Center of the Earth. I must have read that at least 50 times.

I've enjoyed The Stand by King, but would have to say I prefer "It" more. To me this was the novel where he was the strongest in painting the story visually with his words. I also enjoyed Insomnia quite a bit.

In fantasy - Stephen R. Donaldson's "Thomas Covenant" series. I found those richer in scope and character development than Tolkien's works.

Sci-Fi. This would have to be Robert Heinlein. My two favorites are "Time Enough for Love" and "To Sail beyond the Sunset". I would also have to add Asimov's Foundation series to this list.

If you asked on a different day, week or month, my answer might be completely different. For today though, the two that come to mind are both by Robert McCammon. Swan Song and A Boy's Life.

LOVE A Boy's Life!!!

Also love The Stand.

My favorite young adult book is M.T. Anderson's FEED. Favorite adult book is, because I'd never be able to write something like them myself in a million years, THE MURDER OF ROGER ACKROYD and CURTAIN by Agatha Christie.

The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood
The Stand by Stephen King
Still Alice by Lisa Genova
Mistress of the Art of Death by Ariana Franklin

I love so many books but these are the four that I still think about even I read them quite awhile ago :)

I LOVE Agatha Christie. Loved, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd. Some of my favorites; The Mirror Crack'd, And Then There Were None, Murder on the Orient Express. I'm sure I'm forgetting some. So many great ones by her!

Lonesome Dove for sure, I don't like westerns usually but this book is just perfect in every way.

Too too many favorites to ever list - although I've seen some old friends in the posts above.

One of my favorite series that has not been mentioned yet is George RR Martin's Song of Fire and Ice! I've been quite impressed with the HBO adaptation Game of Thrones - usually I cringe when I see my favorites on either the big or small screen.

Oh gosh. Just one? That has to fit the bill of being emotionally gripping, intellectually challenging and well written from a prose point of view? Cause you're not asking for "favorite" book, but "best" book. Yikes.

I'll offer Shogun, as it's one of the few that sticks out to me as being excellent in all categories.

Early books by John Grisham:
A Time to Kill
The Firm
The Pelican Brief

All of those I couldn't put down. It helped I read them WAY before the movies (so I didn't know the ending). They're still good (the movies are a watered down version), but are even better when you don't know the ending.

I also like the John Ryan Series by Tom Clancy:
The Hunt for Red October
Patriot Games
Cardinal of the Kremlin
Clear and Present Danger
The Sum of All Fears
Debt of Honor
Executive Orders
Without Remorse

As someone who has read about 4 books a week since I have been able to read I truly cannot choose just one

In no particular order

Atlas Shrugged
The Poisonwood Bible
The Name of the Wind

This is like picking your favorite child or something. :lmao:

LOL......completely agree!

There are so many that can be on my favorite list. Many of which are mentioned here already.

Each time I see one that I've read & enjoyed I think, "Oh, that's a favorite too!"

Yikes, that's like asking a parent to name a favorite child!

To Kill a Mockingbird comes to mind quickly, Stephen King's The Stand is one I'll read again and again, just about anything by Pat Conroy..those are the books I kept when I did my major housecleaning.

The books I read daily are collected into one volume, The Bible.
