OK - so I am making a few things to bring to my sisters house for Easter but one of them is an appetizer.

What have you made/had that is a sure fire hit?

Thank you! :)

who knew?! - but these were a hit: thin-sliced ham, spread with cream cheese and wrapped around a pickle - then you slice them, use a toothpick to keep it together.

One that my son and daughter-in-law sometimes bring (but mught be too heavy for pre-Easter meal): queso dip - velveeta and chili in a crockpot with tortilla chips.

Of course, with Easter, I think of deviled eggs.

my favorite is the pampered chef's elegant artichoke cups. this is my always go to recipe for every party and just because dish. i usually leave the bell pepper out of it and add way more garlic than it calls for.

my new favorite is this website...

there's a loaded potato chip, cheese and bacon wrap that i made...it was a hit!

i finally found the link! http://www.puffpastry.com/recipe/60535/loaded-potato-chip-spirals

A friend of mine makes a warm chicken salad that is soooo good. I'm sure you can find a recipe on-line. When she makes this for guests it disappears quickly because it's so tasty. It meant to be spread on crackers, but it's so good some people eat it with a fork.:)

I'm not on apps for Easter this year, but for Thanksgiving, I'm not allowed to show up without cheese balls. They are super easy -

Take a brick of cream cheese, mush together with a package of shredded cheese, form a ball, and roll in nuts or bacon bits.

I've done it with regular or light cream cheese, cheddar, swiss, or other shredded cheese. You can split the cream cheese and do two different kinds as well. Just us half a pack of shredded for each one.

Serve with crackers.

I have to say I love my Dill Dip and dark rye round bread.

Dill Dip

1 1/3c Mayo
1 1/3c Sour Cream
2 TBSP chopped parsley
2 TBSP minced onion
2 heaping TSP of Dill Weed
2 measured TSP of Beau Monde (herb, Spice Islands)

Mix and done.

Great with Rye Round torn up, pretzels, & veggies.

I've tried all sorts. The one that gets the ravest reviews? Fresh shrimp and cocktail sauce (I make my own fairly spicy with ketchup and my favorite horseradish).

I dont know the name but its basically:
Little crackers, with a tsp of pesto sauce, slice of tomato, then a slice of mozzarella on top baked just till the cheese is melted

I would call them caprese bites. Your appetizer is based on the famous Italian caprese salad which is sliced tomatoes, mozzarella slices, fresh basil and drizzled in olive oil and balsamic vinegar...yum...I want some now.

I've got a few. The first one is my favorite. It's very spring/summer tasting ;)

Cucumber Dip

2 pkgs cream cheese (softened) 4 Tbls mayo
1 cucumber chopped and peeled 1 small onion chopped
1 tsp garlic salt 1 tsp celery salt
2 tsp lemon juice salt and pepper to taste

Mix cream cheese, mayo, garlic salt, celery salt, lemon juice and salt/pepper together. Stir in onions and cucumbers.

Serve on crackers or with fresh veggies.

Hot Pizza Dip

1 pkg (8oz) softened cream cheese 1 cup pizza sauce
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese ¾ cup grated parmesan cheese
2 Tbls chopped green pepper 1 tsp Italian Seasoning
2 Tbls thinly sliced green onion

Beat cream cheese and Italian seasoning. Spread in ungreased 9 in microwave safe pie plate. Combine mozzarella & parmesan chesses. Sprinkle ½ over cream cheese. Top with pizza sauce, remaining cheese mixture, green pepper & onions. Microwave uncovered on high for about 3-4 minutes or until cheese is almost melted. Let stand 1-2 min. Serve with bread sticks, chips, crackers …

Mexican Wheels

1 pkg flour tortillas 2 pkgs cream cheese (softened)
1 can black olives (chopped) 1 bunch of green onions (chopped)

Beat cream cheese, olives and green onions together. Spread mixture on tortilla. Roll the tortilla. Repeat. Let them set for about 30 min in the refrigerator. Slice each rolled tortilla into ½ inch slices. Serve with salsa.

This is the easiest thing I make and it always is gone and I have to give the recipe out when I bring it places. I had it at an open house once and had to get the recipe for it and now I bring it places.

Olive Ball

Cream Cheese
Horseradish
green olives

I usually use a brick of cream cheese, 1/2 a jar of green chopped olives and a tablespoon of horseradish. I just mix it well and I usually put it in a pretty bowl because I am too lazy to form it into a ball!

7-layer dip is another good one. I just start with a can of refried bean and layer it in a pie pan. I usually do beans, salsa, sour cream, shredded cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and black olives, but you can use anything you like to layer it.

Stuffed mushrooms, I just use frozen creamed spinach and add a block of cream cheese and fry and drain sausage and use this as the filling for the mushroom caps. Its really easy and its really good!

I'm not allowed at family get-togethers  unless I bring my sweet-and-sour kielbasa:

Slice 2-3 lbs. kielbasa in a baking dish. Stir together 1 cup packed brown sugar, 1/2 bottle honey barbecue sauce, and a 20-oz can crushed pineapple (I drain it, otherwise the sauce is too runny) and mix with kielbasa. Bake in a 350-degree oven for 90 minutes, stirring every 20-30 minutes to avoid burning the top pieces.

And don't use really cheap barbecue sauce. I've found that Kraft and our store brand leave a lot of unsavory-looking fat on top.

The one I am always asked to bring is:

Ranch Bean Dip

Spread a can of refried beans into the bottom of 9x13 pan. Mix a large container of sour cream with a packet of Hidden Valley Ranch Dip Mix. Spread on top of beans. Cover with shredded cheddar cheese and top with chopped tomatoes, olives and green onion. Serve with tortilla chips.

Appetizers are my FAVORITES, so keep them coming!

we had a party recently where people brought a bunch of appetizers and the clear popularity winner was water chestnuts, wrapped in bacon, dipped in bbq sauce, baked until crispy.

My favorite one that I make is prosciutto wrapped around fresh mozzarella with balsamic vinaigrette drizzled over them. You can secure with a tooth pick but it stays ok without. I make this by slicing the mozz into thick strips (think the size of string cheese), then roll the prosciutto around the cheese and slice into bite sized pieces.

My favorite one I was served was cold mini-raviolis covered with red onion & balsamic vinegar

Tried and true favorite...pigs in a blanket. Love them.

My favorite are a Pioneer Woman recipe. Take Club crackers and top with 1 teaspoon of Parmesan cheese (don't get fancy, use the stuff in the green jar/can). Slice bacon in half, and wrap a half tightly around the cracker and cheese. Place on a baking rack and put in a low heat oven (around 275 degrees) for 2 hours. Pure magic!!!

You can also make them sweet by substituting brown sugar for the cheese.

Saving this thread! Just sorry I can't make them all. Thanks so much for the great recipes. I will be making one or two of these for Sunday and will let you know what I pick. :thumbsup2 You all are great. :)

I always make this - when in a pinch. But you have to stop at a bakery and get a round, or oblong hearty loaf of unsliced bread. Sourdough is always a good choice.

Cut it like this # - like the whole thing a checkerboard, but not all the way through. Almost like a Bloomin Onion...bottom should stay intact. Then place on an aluminum foiled baking tray, with some sort of lip. They'll be oozing.

Then take a stick or so of butter - and stick in a bowl with some chopped garlic - and stick it in the microwave to melt it.

While it's melting, stuff shredded cheese into that checkerboard on the bread, making it all seperate. Then pour that melted butter/garlic into all the crevices of that checkerboard.

Stick it into the oven, and just bake it until it melts. Keep an eyeball on it.

It's ridiculous. It's so good. The whole thing ends up being eaten and you hate yourself.
