I was in my early 20s as a divorced single mom that went right from high school to work. I always wanted to go to college but made so many excuses.

Finally, one day my mom said - "you can be 30 with a degree or 30 without a degree." It was an eye opening moment When I finished by BS my mom said the same thing again when I was tired of school and didn't want to continue on and again it gave me the push I need to finish my MBA.

I have a plaque on the wall above my kitchen sink. It says "The time to be happy is now; the place to be happy is here". Attributed to Robert G Ingersoll, whoever he is, but it speaks to me, as I tend to get a little melancholy about my life. It reminds me that I have a warm home, wonderful family, enough food, and that happiness is a choice I can make.

Good thread. We need more like these.

Mine was from a professor in school. It was a general statement to the class, but it really hit home with me. He said, "You are studying for the patients you haven't met. Each time you take a short cut, you aren't cheating yourself, you are cheating that person who has put their faith in you."

It made sense in that setting at that time, but I think it really makes sense for life as a whole.
