(Mods, if it's not okay for me to ask this, please delete it. I don't want to step on the DISes toes or anything.)

I love it here and definitely plan on continue posting, of course. I'm also wondering if there are any other good message boards for talking about Disneyland. I mean, there's no such thing as talking about Disney too much, IMO.

So I'm wondering what other Disneyland message boards might be out there in addition to the DIS.

Where else do you guys post?

Purely for discussions I think DIS is best. I've used mouseplanet, intercot and wdwmagic. And the best of all is stupidguesttricks though it is not discussions at all, it is just great.

I agree the Disboards are the best!

Here are some of my other fav's:
miceage.com (great updates on Monday and throughout the week and also has a discussion board)
wdwmagic.com for disneyworld
mouseplanet.com has updates every monday.
http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/
new site I found which has all things disney --http://www.stitchkingdom.com/

That's all I can think of right now.

Just browsing some other sites, it seems like most are very WDW heavy. It's hard to find many good Disneyland sites besides this one.

For DLR info and reviews I like allears.net but it doesn't have discussions.

I like laughingplace.com but they can get a little less friendly than those here ( ok sometimes alot less friendly) But they do have a great DL section on the discussion boards! But DIS has become my DL info homebase and on the plus side here everyone is so friendly!!!;):flower3:

PS: does anyone know how many posts you need to get tagged by the tag fairy because I am waiting patiently;)

The TF just has to notice you. Some complete newbies get tags right away while vets wait and wait and wait.

I like micechat for extremely serious discussions of what disney is doing wrong and what should change, LOL. And for their gumball rally. :)

And I like mouseplanet b/c, hmm, not really sure why, but I check it out every few weeks.

Here is my take:

For WDW forums DIS is king. AllEars has lots of good info too but I have no idea if they have message boards.

For DLR things are mixed. DIS has lots of good, solid info on DLR through the menus at the top. However, MiceAge and MousePlanet have sources inside Disney they use to get information so are usually more able to get the scoop on upcoming news.

MiceChat (part of MiceAge) and MousePad (part of MousePlanet) have strong message boards and lots of folks who have expertise on DLR. More than I do, that is for sure. However, IMO they tend to be more focused on day trip visits and visiting with friends. Also they tend to be very ignorant about WDW although they would not admit it. Plus they have a very strong DLR bias over WDW.

DIS DLR draws more folks on multi-day visits and visits with family and kids. DIS also has a better mix of WDW vets with a more balanced perspective on Disney, IMO. And this forum tends to draw in WDW vets who hang out on DIS WDW forums who find it easier to come here than find another website. Plus, at the risk of tooting my own horn :), I think DIS DLR has better information for WDW vets and is much better able to help WDW vets plan a DLR trip.

Finally, I used to post on MiceChat and MousePlanet and now only do rarely. They are just not as friendly there. And frankly, I do not like most of their threads. There are way too many "armchair imagineering" threads for me. I cannot understand why people would spend time giving their ideas for new rides at DLR. Who cares?

DIS has the best DLR Paris forum, IMO, with lots of Europeans (many British) with WDW experience. Forums for Tokyo Disney are very weak across the board. MC was the best I found but still very skimpy.

Anyways, there are a few other Disney forums but DIS, MC and MP are the best ones.

RE: Tag Fairy

Notice under some disers screenname there are 'tags' in color of something that diser said, there a a tag fairy who posts those and it is all very elusive, I can't wait to get mine lol :rotfl:

I am a mod here but I still like to poke around on other sites and see what's what:scared1: - for my own Disney-obsessed informational purposes and also to kind of gauge what the overall 'tone' is on other boards as opposed to here on the DIS.

I must say - before officially joining the DIS as a member, I was silently lurking. And I silently lurked on the other boards such as MiceAge and MousePlanet. This one - the DIS - was the place where I felt comfortable actually jumping into a discussion. For some reason - in no small part due to the fabulous folks who are regular posters and contributors here - the mood and general atmosphere are better on this board than the other ones I have visited. It's more fun. There is a lot of good info to be learned. People are friendly and take the time to answer questions. Rarely do people get shot down for offering an opinion that is unpopular or for asking a question that is probably asked 10 times a week. Everyone pitches in, and everyone's voice matters. But on other boards it's often 'ask or speak up at your own risk.'

Now, I can only speak to this part of the DIS - the DLR-specific side of town. I hear reports of the WDW side of the DIS that sometimes make me think it's the Wild, Wild West.:rotfl2: I know that here, in this little Disneyland-centric section, we have a really good mix or cross-section of locals, out-of-state or even international Disney enthusiasts, AP holders and non-AP holders, people who haven't been to park in decades, people who go to the park once a week, DLR vets who have been visiting DL since their childhoods, people who have never been to DLR before in their lives, people with kids and people without kids, etc., etc. It's a very interesting blend of folks here and so the perspectives are all slightly different but all quite relevant.

One thing I will say that I like about MiceAge (other than Al Lutz's columns and the weekly DLR updates & photos) and MousePlanet is the fact that you can sell items there. We cannot sell anything or allow anyone else to sell anything here on the DIS. Just in case you have a desire to sell a really great Disney collectible that you no longer have a need for and you don't want to deal with the hassle of Ebay because you want to go directly to the Disney fans (the target audience), you can post For Sale threads on MousePlanet and MiceAge.

I have also looked at MouseInfo to obtain Mouse info!;);) Seems like it has some decent stuff (all the sites have decent stuff), but the discussion threads I saw were a bit on the boring side.

More recently, there is a "Disney on Facebook" thread over in the DL Community section and in that thread I listed a whole bunch of pages and groups that I joined on Facebook. I get a lot of my Disney info that way now, coming to me on my News Feed. There's a food blog page, there are collectibles pages, there are pages for all of the parks, there are all kinds of fan pages - and it's a really good way to see what people are thinking about things that are happening in the world of Disney.

Thanks, Sherry! That was very insightful. And you're right, I've noticed since being here that the Disneyland section has a nice mix of different types of people. I've also noticed it's a little less crazy and quite a bit nicer than other sections of the DIS. While planning a recent WDW trip, I was kind of afraid to ask questions that could be perceived as "dumb" but I don't worry quite as much over here.

I didn't know there was a Disneyland Community board section. I'll have to check that out! I'm kind of afraid of the other community section on the DIS.

Well you could check out micechat and find out. ;)

It's an event where they have teams and a list of questions to answer, and you pretty much have to go on almost all rides and almost all attractions to answer them. There are rules, there are spotters, there are super-secret spotters, there's a banquet, etc.

They also have held it out at WDW, I believe.

Interesting. Sounds more like something for locals or people that go a few times a year though. :(

The DIS is the only place that I would post, (because I don't feeling like jumping into a pack of wolves on the other sites ).

But for general park info, I regularly check the Disney blog, MousePlanet.com, and Disneygeek.com (for his pictorial updates).

Oh, I forgot to mention in my earlier post one other observation I had about the other Disney info sites vs. this one. (I don't mean to make this sound like an 'us vs. them' sort of thing, because, quite frankly, a lot of the folks who are members of the other sites are also members here, so they are part of the collective 'us' as well!)

Even though I have to assume that everyone on MiceChat, MousePad, etc., is a big Disney fan to begin with (or else how did they end up there in the first place?), here on the DIS I definitely get a sense that most of the folks have a real love for their favorite Resort - whichever Disney resort that may be. I think a lot of our DIS members appear to have much more of an emotional or nostalgic connection to, for example, Disneyland. Disneyland was and will always be a part of the lives of many of our members, and it shows in their posts on this board.

On the other sites, I see a lot of hard facts and discussions of facts, and things that could be better in the parks. Of course, we have that same thing over here as well, but often times I don't get the impression that a lot of the folks on MiceAge or MousePlanet really adore the parks and all the little nuances and details that the rest of us thrive on. They don't seem to embrace the general magic of DLR as hugely as it is embraced over here, I don't think. So, for that reason, I think the DIS is a better place for people who are, more or less, like-minded in their great affection for their Resort, and in our case, specifically, DLR.

(I don't know if that made any sense, but I don't always make sense!:rotfl2::rotfl2: Eh - you win some, you lose some!!:rotfl2::rotfl2:)

I started out on MiceChat, but never felt comfortable posting there. It was a decent place to lurk when I was just learning the ins and outs of Disneyland, but when I started looking for more detailed info I ended up here. Everyone is so happy and friendly. I mostly stay on the DL side of the forums, but found TERRIFIC support on the Dis for Families forum when H1N1 in our family threatened to cancel our trip last fall.

One "technical" thing that makes Dis stand out for me is the fact that I can hover over the title of a thread and it pops up the first part of the original post so that I can preview without actually opening the link. If I only have a few minutes, this is a huge time saver. :surfweb:

One other site I haven't seen mentioned is Mousesavers. They don't have discussion boards or blog entries, but there is great info for DL newbies. It was there that I learned about upgrading hoppers to APs, where to get the best ticket prices, HOJOs, dining, and peak vs. off season. When my friends ask me for DL advice, I tell them to go there first, then come here and find HydroGuy's tip threads, and then look here or come back to me for whatever remaining questions they might have.

I  all you guys!

I totally agree with you about the armchair imagineering. That bores me to death. There is a lot of "yesterland" kind of stuff on Micechat too which also bores me. If it's gone, then don't bother to show it to me or talk about it.

I also agree that they are not too friendly there either.

Allears does not have a discussion board and according to Deb Wills, they aren't going to have one.

Passporter has pretty friendly boards, there is a ton of WDW info and they have pretty good threads on DL too.
