I completed the Eastern Caribbean cruise on the Magic, yesterday. On the cruise, a discount of $8/point was being offered (from the basic price of $98/point).

Under what other circumstances or situations, does Disney offer discounts for DVC points?

They randomly offer special promotions. Right now they are offering the $8 off per point, but in addition you get 2005 and 2006 points in the amount of points you purchase. If you get 130 points, you get two free annual passes. For every 25 points above that you get a 1-day park hopper ticket.

This promotion will last for awhile and then off to another promo.

The $8, plus the receipt of 2005 (as well as 2006) points, was mentioned to us, by the DVC sales rep, on the cruise ship. However, she did not talk about the annual passes. She did not talk about the park-hopper tickets. My friend, who bought 250 points on board, was not offered the free annual passes and.or the park hopper tickets.

PS-My question related to other situations, outside of DCL, where one can be offered discounts or promotions associated with the purchase of points.

I think the pass promo may be only for current members doing an add-on contract. At least that seemed to be the indication of the email I received from DVC.

I don't think there are special offers for those on DCL, they are the same offers as are made to any current purchasers.

The DCL salesperson stated that the current cost (at Sarosota Springs) was $90/point bought there, vs $98/point bought at the resort sales office. This was confirmed by my friend; he bought at the DCL at the lower price, after a few days earlier attending a sales presentation on site, where he was offered the points at the higher price.

The $8 off per point is for anyone that walks into the sales office, not just DCL. I am surprised they did not offer that to your friend.

I don't think they ever offered different prices to different sales location (ie ..dcl vs dl vs wdw). Disney is usually pretty uniform about what they do. I do like that you know there is no haggling or sales pressure. I do know they have the $8.00 off at the resort.

The ap's were for add on's only at SS. I know because I did one. I am so weak :rotfl2: !!! It is a good deal. I wonder if there are any of us that regret our purchase? I know I don't!!

I believe that if you go to a presentation, there is a time limit on the $8 offer. If contact via telephone, there isn't a time limit. It is an attempt to induce a sale then rather than later. There have been threads on this board over the last year or two that could explain this better than I. Even though somebody was past the 'sale' date, I think DVC would still sell at the discounted rate rather than let the sale go.

You could get a job with the Walt Disney Company. They offer DVC discounts to their cast members. Last summer we bought in and they were offering 25% off to WDW CM, and it also included any promotion they were having. They offered 15% off to CMs from other parts of the Disney company. We were pretty sure hubby was going to leave the division of Disney he worked for so we bought in then. With both the promotion they were running ($10 off a point, I think), plus the extra 15% off, we paid about $74 a point. Of course, we too said, we should have done it a long time ago, especially while we were watching the VWL and BCV being built, to live and learn! We saved $000 off of our price with the discount.
