I'll try once more to help you understand this. You are incorrect. The proposal has been approved for debate. Nothing has been cut. The actual proposal has not been approved for discussion.

This is from your above quote...
The proposal to put the science-lab cuts on the table was approved recently by Berkeley High's School Governance Council

What "on the table" means is that the issue has been approved for discussion and will be debated. A final decision has not been made. The governance council has not cut anything so far. Is this really so difficult to understand?

Whatever.....
It's gone this far and it's a travesty.

Um...excuse me...public school = you get what you pay for. Public schools belong to ALL US Citizens. If you are so worried about the "achievemet gap", go put your kid in a private school. EVERYONE deserves to receive a standard education.

I agree.
I'm not worried about any achievement gap. I'm worried about schools trying to shrink this so called gap by punishing the top achievers instead of focusing on raising the acheivement of those kids on the bottom.

Whatever.....

Finally, you understand.:worship:

I don't have a problem with your view that this is a bad decision on the board's part. I agree with you on this. I'm sure that there are alternative methods to achieve both goals - narrowing the racial achievement gap and keeping the science labs. I'm sure teachers and parents will be very vocal about alternative methods when the board brings this up for debate.

My problem is the title of your thread. We've already established that it is factually incorrect and misleading. In the title you state that science classes are being cut because white kids are doing well. Now, I'm sure that many in the KKK would agree with this view. This, however, is not true. The decision was not made because someone felt that white kids were doing too well. The decision to take action was made because of a report that pointed out that the school had the largest racial achievement gap in the state.

I've reported this post to the moderators.
If they take no action, kindly refrain from comparing my post to views held by the clan.

I don't know why you would report this post to the mods. Many in the KKK feel that 'white kids" are being treated unfairly. I'm sorry if this bothers you. It's how they view things.

The dumbing down of America continues. We will import skilled workers from other countries, while our educational systems become more PC.

Maybe you could change your thread title it's a little misleading:goodvibes

The article I posted reads...........
The proposal to put the science-lab cuts on the table was approved recently by Berkeley High's School Governance Council, a body of teachers, parents, and students who oversee a plan to change the structure of the high school to address Berkeley's dismal racial achievement gap, where white students are doing far better than the state average while black and Latino students are doing worse.
Paul Gibson, an alternate parent representative on the School Governance Council, said that information presented at council meetings suggests that the science labs were largely classes for white students. He said the decision to consider cutting the labs in order to redirect resources to underperforming students was virtually unanimous.

I don't find the thread title misleading at all.

Man, read this thread and you have a 100 things running through your mind.

Two thirds of this lab is white, one third is Latino or African American. You can make your own assumption about how "diverse" this lab is and why it is being cut.

My initial thought is that they are cutting this lab for all the wrong reasons and are passing the money over to students that, to be honest, probably have no desire to be at school to begin with (whether they are black, white, green or brown). But then I saw what the lab was studying, global warming, urban pollution, the destruction of the ozone layer and I thought, maybe it's not such a bad thing that they cut this lab. :goodvibes

What else would they study, it is Berkley after all.

Everyone's education should be dragged down to the level of the least successful? I don't think so. That's obscene
