Bergen County, NJ DIS'ers?

LOL, Dan!

I was oblivious to the fact that the county portion of our taxes was going to skyrocket. I opened our mail on Friday and nearly went into cardiac arrest.

I thought when DH saw it, he'd put a "For Sale" sign on our front lawn, but good newspaper reader that he is, he was expecting it.

How nice of you to warn me, dear!

Well, Winnie, as you know, you pay taxes to your town, but the county collects a certain percentage of what you pay.

I've asked around work, and it looks pretty bad for everyone. Brace yourself. So far, co-workers in Ridgewood and Englewood Cliffs say they've been walloped too.

I heard that Essex and Morris also got nailed this year. Did you get re-appraised?

Should we all thank our new Govenor???

Myabe a new arean in Newark will be the only good thing he does while in office

I used to live in Morris County on the Passaic County line. There's no way I could ever afford a home there. I don't know how people do it. :o

Not Bergen County, but living in Essex, I know all too well how bad you can get socked.

But did you hear the "good" news? Our car insurance rates are no longer the highest in the country. That honor now goes to Washington, DC...we come in a close second.

Can't wait till they discountinue EZpass discounts and add that $1 surcharge!

Dana, we did get re-appraised, but the tax rate per thousand was supposed to be reduced, so it should have been close to a wash.

Our tax bill was accompanied by a letter from our mayor blasting the county for the increase. Since DH read about it in The Record, I guess it's true. Sigh!

I feel so sorry for people on a fixed income. At least DH and I can find a way to afford this; I think if we were seniors, this would be the last straw.

Antnee, I know you work for the Devils, but what's wrong with Continental Airlines Arena that we need to spend $40M to build a new arena in Newark? I'll pass on the new arena and take a tax break, thanks!

Pin Wizard, my mother lives in Boonton Twp. on the Kinnelon border. I bet we were practically neighbors.

That's for sure. I'm from Pompton Plains and my husband was from Towaco.

off topic but in repsonse to Danacara

  • More luxury boxes = more revenue
  • Arena is over 25 years old
  • We dont own it and are controlled by the NJSEA on everything we do
  • Mass Transit is a big plus
  • Where in the Meadowlands can you spend you secondary or disposable income after leaving the arena

Plus Dana this bldg will be renovated and new pieces added. They have to have a place to play while the arena is renovated.
And so why not a new arena, other states get them so why not us. Would you rather the team move like it probably will. You may not be a fan but the state would lose tons of $$$

And PS is shouldnt cost the tax payers anything

We used to spend our money afterwards somewhere on Route 3 on the way home. :p

the problem is there looking to build around the arena to attract more fans. In NY you go to the garden walk out and hit any number of restaurants, bars, etc. An arena in newark will fufill that with the new construction going on now and the additon of mass transit
