Bereavement...am I thinking unreasonably?

I am sorry to hear what you are going thru. I will keep you in my prayers.
I know my company has a policy on what you get for time also. For must we get three days. But for grandparents we only get one day. But they do not hold us to it. If we need more they let us take unpaid if we do not want to use our vaction time.
As for getting bounced for three days I would tell them to plan accordingly and start the paper work.

Well, I just got the phone call. He passes away a few minutes after 6.

Thanks for all the prayers and good thoughts.

I'll have to deal with DH's work now.

I'm sure I could fight it to some degree...but it will just be easier to have him use the 2 vacation days at this point.
I just wanted to make sure I didn't seem crazy.

Oh you are crazy, just not about this topic:lmao:

 I am sorry to hear about your DH's GP.

That is terrible that he would get written up, and could lose his job, if he took time off (not vacation time) for a family member's funeral. Sounds like a rotten company to work for if they don't have a good bereavement policy for their workers. :sad2:

My Dad passed away last month, and my DD works in the accounting office at our local Wal-Mart. Even Wal-Mart has a good bereavement policy. She was given 3 days off, and they even sent a plant/floral arrangement. The company my DS works for also gave him the same amount of time, and sent flowers.

SOunds like a great company to work for.

I'd start looking for a better company, once the services are over. How absolutely absurd.

So...if he takes off 2 days...he'll actually get a week off. :scratchin

Kinda like when a kid blows off a days worth of school, and gets an out of school suspension. ;)

Im sorry to hear that bad news.

The only thing...since it's for the government...he does get great pay and some of the benefits are awesome. so it's kinda a tough choice.

Its the goverment and they dont have bereavement??? WOw!!! :sad2:

It always opens up old wounds to hear about bereavement policies like this. My parents died the first 18 mos I was in practice (I'm a physician). I was self employed, so, no paid vacation at all, no leave of any time. Fine. Dad died on a Wednesday, and I was on call. I had to finish being on call to leave to help my brothers and sister with arrangements out of state. The funeral was on Friday, and I returned Monday. My office manager insisted that I work Tuesday, my normal day off. Who knows why. His death was totally unexpected, and my whole family was in shock.

The next spring, my mom developed metastatic lung cancer. She lived less than three months after diagnosis. I went down to Florida again to help my brothers and sisters. My office manager called the next morning, not to ask how mom was doing (she passed away overnight), but to ask when I was returning. I think this time I left on a Tuesday, and returned the next Monday.

I surely can empathize with your husband.

Ok...so I just got a call from DH's mom. His grandpop is not doing well.

He's not expected to make the night.

Ahhh I'm so sorry about Big Daddy's Grandfather! Yes, he should be able to take some time off without the hassle!!!

That's so sweet of you to get your house ready for company Kellydoodle! Best wishes to all.

  as long as it's NOT BIL...they can stay.

The Golden Child can sleep out back. (was that too harsh?)

My dh's company is like that. He has to switch with someone or call off and be written up.. Even when we had our kids TG we had them c-section and scheduled so he could be there because they would not allow him ANY time off..

Give BD hugs from me will ya..

I just want to point out that that observation was made totally without any input from me!
