Bendy & Her Friendies V2 ... This Bar Never Closes! New Thread Started!

Elin, both the dinner and the wine tasting sound great! I am completely flummoxed by those bronzes. It would have thrown me for a loop to see Grandma and Grandpa tooling by me in the back of a pick-up like that!

Well, to be fair, the truck was parked outside a local gallery

and the statues were probably done by the owner. But

By the way... we need the recipe for tonight's dessert.

Okay, I have lots to report tonight....none of it probably of any consequence though!:rotfl:

First off....I was perusing the issue of Southern Living that arrived today, and came across some information that made me think of some particular friendies!

Brenda.....they are reporting that the first 275 fans that arrive at the Cardinal ballpark on game day will pay only $11 for a pair of tickets. They did not specify how good the tickets are, but I remember from earlier in the thread you were saying how you are going to have to skip seeing a game this summer because of how expensive the tickets were. I have no idea how early you would need to get there to score these cheap tix, but I thought I would give you a heads up in case you hadn't heard of this yet.

Have not heard of that but thanks for the info. My guess is that we'd have to sleep there overnight in order to really take advantage of it since we live so darn far away. :lmao:

TigerKat and Shovan (and anyone else down in NOLA), apparently you can get 25 cent martinis at Commander's Palace during lunch. They don't say how big they are....but for 25 cents, who cares if they are the size of shot glass!

Is it wrong that I like theirs better than mine? :rotfl2:

I've also got a little food porn for you guys....I made a little special dinner for my DH Mike tonight. He is halfway through a rather grueling certification course for his job as a detention officer....he's been having to get up at 5am and doesn't get home until after 7 or 8 most nights because the class is in Durham (about an hour and a half away from us). He's doing PT four days a week and taking as many as 5 tests a day, and it's really putting him through the wringer. But he's kicking everyone's tail, as he has the best times on all of their PT trials, and he found out today that he's the academic leader for the class as well!

So to congratulate him, I made some sirloin kabobs and a hot fudge pudding cake for dessert. There were some teriyaki noodles and edamame as well....but I didn't take pics since they came from a packet and a bag respectively. When it comes to cooking, my philosophy is to make equal parts from scratch and equal parts from convenience!:lmao: For our beverages, we had mango mojitos.

First up kabobs.....although I didn't include vegetables, so perhaps they are more appropriately described as meat sticks.

Thanks for the lovely food porn and congrats to your hubby! :goodvibes

"There's always the Electric Umbrella"....:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Was that the best line ever or what? Although I did like the part near the end when he said someone chubby could call for him at 6AM and that officer started rubbing his little man belly. :rotfl2:

Nah.... we were just all out eating and drinking. Isn't that what we are supposed to be doing?

We went to our favorite wine bar again tonight for their weekly free Friday Night Wine Tasting and a light dinner.

The James Dare, the rep from Warwick Wineries in South Africa was pouring the following delicious wines. We had the opportunity to talk to him a bit after the tasting and he was delighted to know we had drunk his wines at AKL before. Seems they are his largest buyer in the US!

Warwick Sauvignon Blanc 2008
Warwick Three Cape Ladies 2004 (this was my favorite tonight)
Warwick Estate Reserve Red 2001
Warwick Old Bush Vine Pinotage 2006

I think I want to go there some day. I have never really thought about visiting South Africa, even though my brother was engaged to a lovely young lady from SA for a few years. But, just look at this place!

We had mac 'n' cheese with lobster for dinner and it was yummy, as usual. Also tasted some wines in the enomatics there

(Orin Swift's Mercury Head and Saldo and Roagna Barolo Riserva la Rocca e La Pira 1993 were some I would not normally buy but enjoy sipping a bit)

n my way back home I saw the most fascinating site. I am still perplexed by what it all means, but I will let the photos from my phone (as I was driving!) speak for themselves:

Yes... they were full-sized bronze. :confused3

Gorgeous pics Elin - you guys have the coolest stuff to do in Virgina. I would move there yesterday just for all the history ... the wine is just an added bonus! :thumbsup2

Brenda - the youTube link was amazingly hysterical! thanks for posting it. :teeth:

How could I not share it with folks who understand better than most? I made Jay watch it and even though he doesn't make the ADRs he knows what I go through trying to get everything just right and he thought it was a pretty funny spoof.

Now that's a wine tasting! I think I need to head a bit south to partake in good ones. Now the bronzes are just weird. Heck, I'm shocked with the weight of those things that they didn't go right through the truck bed.

I have to admit that the three most gorgeous photos are not mine. :sad2: Ain't the intraweb a neat thing??? :teeth:

By the way... we need the recipe for tonight's dessert.

Okay, that makes it a little less odd....but it would still have freaked me out a little!

Here's the recipe:

Hot Fudge Pudding Cake (makes 8 servings)

1 1/4 c. granulated sugar, divided
1 c. all purpose flour
7 tbsp cocoa powder, divided
2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 c milk
1/3 c butter, melted
1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 c packed light brown sugar
1 1/4 c hot water

Heat oven to 350. In large bowl, stir together 3/4 c sugar, flour, 3 tbsp cocoa, baking powder and salt. Stir in milk, butter and vanilla; beat until smooth. Spoon batter into 8" or 9" square baking pan. Stir together remaining 1/2 c sugar, brown sugar, and remaining 4 tbsp cocoa; sprinkle mixture evenly over batter. Pour hot water over top. DO NOT STIR. Bake 35 to 40 minutes or until center is almost set. Cool 15 minutes and then dig in!

It freaked me out enough that I drove around the block twice so I could get those photos! :rotfl2:

Thanks for the recipe. Looks like a winner!

I know, I've been trying to find an excuse to get to CP for lunch!!!!!

Your guy must have been very happy with that dinner tonight. I just got in from eating dinner which was just meh....your pics have me drooling!!!

Allison, I just checked out your son's blog....what a well spoken and obviously mature young man you have raised! Congratulations....you must be so proud of him.:goodvibes

TYVM! So far so good. I figure I had better do a good job with him because I'll need him to take care of me in my twilight years! If nothing else, I should be eating well. :rotfl:

I know there are some Pride & Predjudice fans here ... have any of you seen the latest movie which I believe was released in 2005? It stars Keira Knightly ... I really really like this one. It's a bit more rustic setting and the girls are a little younger but it's a delightful adaptation ... and the musical score is lovely. :goodvibes

It's one of my favorite versions ever....the cast is phenomenal, and the score is so elegant. Even my 5 year old DD loves to sit and watch it with me!

I think my next vacation will be coming to visit you!!!!! How awesome it must be to live there!:worship:

I definitely like this one better than the PBS version that was released in 90s ... not that that one isn't good, because I like it, too. But this one is just very fresh and light - it doesn't take itself or the source material too seriously.

I don't think it got a very wide release here in the US but then again, I spent the last part of 2005 and most of 2006 dealing with health issues so I was little preoccupied. :lmao:

I know, I've been trying to find an excuse to get to CP for lunch!!!!!

You mean 25 cent martinis aren't an excuse in and of themselves!?!:lmao: Well, according to my calendar, Parents Day is coming up (whatever the heck that is)....and you are a parent, right?:thumbsup2

Heck... you are all invited to come to my great city! There is so much to do here from pre-Revolutionary and Civil War things to great restaurants and wineries. We even have a brand new Courtyard by Marriott in our historic downtown area.

Seriously... if any of you are ever headed this direction, let me know!

Well, the PBS version did have Colin Firth without his shirt, which was a definite plus....but I think this one is infinitely better. I agree with you....it's done with such a light hand. It came out around Christmas time in 2005, I think....I was just back from living in Malaysia, and dealing with a 9 month old, so I didn't catch it until it came out on DVD. It plays on Oxygen at least once a month, so I see it now all the time.

Jay and I both majored in history in college ... my area of "expertise" is the American Civil War. We actually spent our honeymoon in Gettysburg and Williamsburg.

Do you know how many people at our reception were bored and disappointed by that response to the question: Where are you going on your honeymoon?
