Bendy-Friendies V.4 ... Drinks-A-Plenty with a Side Order of Tasty Food!!!

Hey Kat...

My mom said if you've got a toothache, you should soak some cotton in either scotch or bourbon and stick it to the tooth... maybe you just suck on it until you feel better.. :rotfl:

Me too Kat!!! :hug: :hug::hug:

I think I might be a couple weeks behind everyone...but I'm working on getting there before the festival ends!!!

Hey Ya'll...

Does anyone know about the beer flight at the brewpub at Boardwalk?

And does anyone know about a tequila flight at La Cava in Mexico?

DH had the tequila flight this summer and really enjoyed it :thumbsup2

Hey y'all! Just wanted to pop in and post that despite having a root canal yesterday I am off to F&W tomorrow morning! We'll be toasting all the friendies tomorrow and Sunday!

Have a wonderful trip my friend!!!:cloud9:

Well... it's garden ripping out day... yay................. :rotfl:

I'm hoping the frost holds off here for a while, still a lot of green tomatoes on the vines. Had a few ripe ones yesterday that went into a pasta sauce, but we've never had a total glut of them at one time to do anything major with them. A few green peppers and eggplant lurk out there too.

I guess if the frost comes I can run out and grab the greenies and make fried green tomatoes, but I'm not a southern girl so I'd be treading on new culinary ground with that endeavor.

A few more hours and I'll be on the el train to Midway - and off to Disney World!

I'm thinking Flying Fish and Jellyrolls are on the agenda for tomorrow. :goodvibes

Too bad you don't live near by. My mom is looking for some green tomatoes to make relish. It's delicious and when you put it in the mason jars, lasts a long time. :thumbsup2

I'm looking forward to hearing all about F&W from those returning soon!

Thanks....

I am so looking forward to getting away from the beltway... I need a vacation.:goodvibes

Thanks for all your insight and observances at F&W, did you end up getting a bag? I think I want one but maybe there will not be any left by the time I get there...makes the decision easier. :rotfl:

Look, one of the friendies is famous!

Great review Chelsi! Can you really only book it with the wine pairing? If that's the case, then I definitely can't do it. :guilty: I was strongly considering booking this for me and my grandma, but she can't really drink with the medications she's on.

Hello - we are back - Full and in Liver Detox mode! :rotfl2: The festival was wonderful again this year, made better by so many fun people playing at the same time!

I am happy you liked the review - Someone commented after that you can book the Chef's Counter and when you arrive they can refund you the wine price if you are not imbibing. I don't know this for sure - I would go into Flying Fish your 1st day of arrival and ask. They seem to have walks ups available. I would hate for you to be out the money if the information isn't correct!

Thanks....

No, I didn't get a bag for myself! Not my style ... :rotfl: I think I would have preferred a messenger type bag.

Ditto! Dinner salads and diet tonic water with lime juice for me! That way I can pretend I'm having a vodka and tonic! :rolleyes1

Just a food porn side bar here- nothing to do with Disney. But I thought you might enjoy the pics, because I took them of every single course. YUMMMMM!!!!!! I actually put this post on my latest TR, but I kind of thought of all of you while I was taking the pictures, and I hope you will like them. I also wanted to show YOU, Bendy, all the fun we could have if you would grace NYC with your presence one day!!

The NYC Wine & Food Festival was this past weekend- and since I live so close to the City (LUCKY ME!!!!) my friend Janie (my BFF I go to STJ with every January) and I decided to attend one of the events- the Ming Tsai Dim Sum & Disco Brunch, held at China Grill.

NYC was PACKED yesterday- the train from NJ was FULL, because it was such a beautiful day. We arrived to China Grill right on time-

And were quickly seated at Table 6, which turned out to be a GREAT place to sit!! To our left was a couple from California, Joanne & Craig, who were here for Craig's Bday celebration- Craig has a food blog called Top Chef Trail. To our right was a family of 4- the dad was Ming Tsai's agent!! Anyway, they were all very nice brunch companions. Champagne was free flowing throughout the event- Nichollas Feullatte Brut "Blue Label" NV and/ Brut Rose. Tori Dango (like a fried chicken ball- I could have eaten 10, but declined because the Mom on the right told us we needed to pace ourselves- and she was NOT kidding!!) was the passed hors d'ouvre (prepared by Kazu Hashimoto of Tanuki Tavern)-

At our place-

IMG_9831.jpg

Island creek Oyster on the half shell with Ty Ku Sake- Fresh Wasabi Mignonette (Chef Ming Tsai, Blue Ginger)

IMG_9832.jpg

Yukiguni Maitake- Foie Gras Shumai with Three Vinegar Emilsion (Ming Tsai)

IMG_9833.jpg

Island Creek Oyster Flashed with Curry Oil and Yuzu-shallot-apple confit (MT again)

IMG_9835.jpg

Next, were Lobster Pancakes, Stir Fried with Wild Mushrooms, Red Chili, Scallions & Coconut milk. Chef Bradley Day, China Grill-

IMG_9836.jpg

IMG_9837.jpg

Next up was Hot and Sour Soup with Lobster by CHEF SUSER LEE!!!!!! of Shang Restaurant-

IMG_9838.jpg

IMG_9839.jpg

Suser Freakin' LEE!!!!!

IMG_9841.jpg

Surf & Turf Spring Roll (Beef and Shrimp) , Suser Lee. This was my favorite dish- and let me tell you, that's sayin a LOT because it was soooo hard to choose-

IMG_9840.jpg

IMG_9842.jpg

I think this was a lamb dumpling, but it does not match what was on our menus- so I'll just say that it was by Chef Joe Ng, Red Farm-

IMG_9843.jpg

IMG_9844.jpg

Lamb Spareribs Plum & Sesame Glazed, Chef Bradley Day, China Grill-

IMG_9845.jpg

Then we got a little distracted, because Ming Tsai came over to visit our table (due to his agent being our table mate).

IMG_9846.jpg

What a nice, nice, nice, funny, down-to-earth kind of a guy. Jane had mentioned to the Agent that her son was a HUGE Ming Tsai fan (Greg is autistic) and so they invited her to bring Greg to a Ming Tsai tasting tonight at a NJ country club. How great is THAT?? Ming was like, "Absilutely! Put him on the list, i'd love to meet him." He also signed her menu for Greg- I'll have to come back to post what it said. Anyway, the food train continued while all this was going on.

Steamed lamb dumpling with Black pepper sauce, Suser Lee-

IMG_9847.jpg

Green Curry Chanterelle Mushroom and Latin Pepper tart, Chef Joe Ng, Red Farm

IMG_9848.jpg

Shrimp & watercress & applewood bacon shumai (tied for my favorite) Joe Ng-

IMG_9849.jpg

Shrimp and Crab Paste and Asparagus Dumpling-

IMG_9850.jpg

IMG_9852.jpg

Vegetable Noodle Box/ Mushroom Chili Broth, Chef Robert Tobin, Asia de Cuba-

IMG_9853.jpg

IMG_9854.jpg

Then all bets were off, as I went jumping up to ask Suser Lee for a photo-

IMG_9855.jpg

Gotta say, seeing him was the highlight for me- knowing I ate food that he personally prepared? Priceless.

Cont's next post-

Almost done with the food!! Crazy, huh? Boiled wonton (it was in a chicken broth), Chef Zak Pelaccio, Fatty Crab-

IMG_9856.jpg

That was so nice because it was soooo light. We were absolutely BURSTING at this point. We tried to get a hold of this chef, because we heard he just took over the space of one of our favorite St John's restaurant, Hinds. But, no luck. Guess we'll have to grab him in January when we're in STJ.

The last course was served and all the chefs came out to thunderous applause-

IMG_9861.jpg

IMG_9864.jpg

Delta Airlines was a sponsor of this event, and they were raffling 2 R/T Business First seats to ANY ASIAN COUNTRY IN THE WORLD....and we didn't win. And I was SO SURE we had it in the bag!! :rotfl:

Anyway, the last course was a Pork Soup Dumpling by Chef Jijie Hong, Shanghai Cuisine, and Ming Tsai explained how to eat them, saying that this Chef makes the most incredible soup dumplings around-

IMG_9867.jpg

Inside that packet was the most delicious broth and pork filling, a fabulous ending to a fabulous meal. We hung a bit longer top finish our champagne and chat with the California foodies-

IMG_9868.jpg

They were all asking me (both the agent and the Top Chef Trail couple) what I was going to do with all the pictures. And I explained that I was taking them for some friends on a Disney website, which completely BAFFLED them!! :rotfl: Ah, well....I hope you thought it was worth the humiliation and you enjoyed them. What a fantastic event this was....Janie & I will MOST DEFINITELY be signing up to go again next year!! Actually, next year we may need to do more than just the one event...:rolleyes1
