Vodka Slush

6 oz. can of frozen OJ (thawed and undiluted)
12 oz. can of frozen lemonade (thawed and undiluted)
12 oz. can of frozen limeade (thawed and undiluted)
1 cup sugar
3 1/2 cups water
2 cups vodka
2 liter bottle of lemon-lime soda

Combine first 6 ingredients, mixing well. Freeze for 48 hours, stirring occasionally. For each serving spoon 3/4 cup frozen mixture into a tall glass; fill with soda. Serve at once!

That's what I'm talkin' about! I was thinking of using Fresca because I just love that stuff.

Ok, I've pulled out some thick boneless pork chops for dinner but looking for suggestions of what to do with them and what to serve with it. I just feel like I keep making the same stuff and I'm sick of it.

It wasn't very long ago ... just a couple of weeks but I've dropped the ball on updating the links because it's been so busy at work and now I'm too busy thinking about ADRs and F&W and just generally being lazy. And we have all been chatty ... which is fun. I'm starting to wonder if this thread is going to make it to October ... I think we get closed at 3700 posts. :scared1:

I posted those recipes on June 15 or 16.

The thread will be closed after page 250.

We booked through AAA, but there is a reservation number on our confirmation sheet..i assume that is teh number i need to book our ADRs online.it was always what i gave them on the phone in the past..sound right?

Guess we'll be starting "Bendy & her Friendies part deux" pretty soon :thumbsup2

I like to make what I call a Piggy with Cranberry sauce... (goes with chicken and it tastes really good on sweet potatoes...)

Take 2 cans of cranberry sauce - usually 1 jelly 1 berry
1/2 cup OJ
1/2 med onion chopped
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp ginger

mix it all up - making sure you break down the cranberry sauce so you don't get lumps... let simmer for about 20 minutes... serve over meats... I sometimes make it the day before... If you make a roast, you can start to baste the roast 1/2 hour before taking it out... This sauce FREEZES really well!!!

(and it makes your house smell SO good :goodvibes)

Woohoo! Another Fforde Ffan!
I know that I've recommended the Thursday Next series to Brenda before. I enjoy the geek factor and "inside" jokes that anyone who likes to read should easily understand. I thought the first book of the Nursery Crimes series was good, but I didn't like the second one as much. I don't even know if he had a third, but it's been a while since I checked.

I love the Thursday Next books! They read so fast but in a good way, there is a lot going on. I was reading The Big Over Easy on my last WDW trip. I used to manage a bookstore and would recommend them to everyone as a beachy/travel read.

Well, I suppose it's a little late but here's what I did with our boneless pork chops a couple of weeks ago. I browned them lightly in a cast iron skillet in a little bit of olive oil, salted and peppered. Then poured a can of petite diced tomatoes over it, cut up a Vidalia onion and a green pepper and added it to the skillet. Popped it into the oven for about 25 minutes on 350, covered with foil. It was pretty good! We had this with baked potatoes and salad.

I didn't know it was a balloon! Hell, I would have tried to pop it for sure if I'd known that! :rotfl2:

Our Wisconsin neices and nephew are really good, sweet kids ... it's just that I'm one of those people who likes family in small doses and I really need quiet time at the end of the day to wind down. Jay's family thinks I'm nuts because they are a huge, loud crowd ... he's got something like 30 first cousins and it just gets bigger and louder from there.

Being around them for too long shatters my delicate nerves. :lmao:

You know what, hon? I totally get you. I have one son, and he's four. He's a great kid. He has his moments, like they all do. I come from a big Italian and Irish family, and my husband is from a big Italian family. So when we have family get togethers, I live in the world of loud.

But when I come home...with my one child, and my lovely husband, and everyone's sleeping and it's quiet, I am a very, very happy TK. :lmao:

Thanks Brenda! Sounds like you've got your own brand of fun to deal with. Perhaps a flask is in order? You could tell the kids it's your "medicine"....:lmao:

I just got this mental image of her sweeping around like some villian with her flask, cackling to herself.

Don't know why. Bendy, you know I love you, right? :rotfl2:

I'm not sure if I should be happy or sad that I missed the giant pepto cupcake castle.

Happy. You're very, very happy.

Happy to be an enabler!:rotfl:

And obviously, I'm quite pleased to be enabled.:thumbsup2

If you dare...

And it WAS painted... the attachments were inflatable... :scared:

They did it right before the Castle was due for a major overhaul...

I stand corrected.

And I'm appalled. They painted MY CASTLE??? Okay, it's not mine, but you know what I mean. :scared1:

Oh, YAY!!!! I love Jasper Fforde. I've read all the Thursday Next series, and I love them. Isn't he working on another as well? I thought I might ahve read that somewhere. I have to reread them, because I don't get everything the first time, it's great. I did read the first in the Nursery Crime series, and I've started the second, but it's not really pulling me in. I like revisiting familiar characters, but with Thursday, I always dive right in.

Sounds nummy!

I'm looking forward to Sci-Fi, too. Seems like a great place to relax, get out of the crowds and heat and cool off.

I'm hoping that my four year old son (who loves cars, trains, trucks, etc) will love the theming. And love eating in a car (if we can get one hopefully) in front of a giant movie screen.

Seriously, what's better than that?

Never mind the boozy beverages for me. :rolleyes1

Thank you so much for the heads up. It's been weird trying to plan ADRs (my booking window opened today) without having some idea of park hours.

You used to manage a book store?

Okay, I shouldn't say it like that, technically, I managed a book store in the sense that the museum shop I ran carried books, but we had other things too. I just think that's so neat. :thumbsup2

I will keep those suggestions in mind for next time. Tonight I ended up throwing the chops on the grill, made stuffing with chopped apple in it and of course applesauce ;)

Hi all,
I was hoping to join this thread, made one lousy post and then things got crazy. Major layoffs at work, a lovely experience w/ kidney stones:scared1:, a wedding and a funeral. Anyway, I've been reading everyone's posts trying to keep up with things. I'm impressed with everyone's culinary knowledge. :thumbsup2 Here's a question for everyone:

Does anyone know how to make decent iced tea? I'm having people over on the 4th and I just bought a new Disney pitcher. But, whenever I make iced tea it's just so blah. :confused3

I wondered where you'd wandered off to. Sorry to hear it's been such a crazy time for you ... ... I hope things are looking up and you're feeling better.

How do you brew your tea?

We still use the Mr. Coffee Iced Tea Maker from the 1980s but we mix a couple of regular black tea bags in with some flavored tea from Republic of Tea. One of my favorites is Blackberry Sage. We find that mixing the two yields a more subtle flavor. The Blueberry Lemon is really good, and I love their Chamomile, but I usually save that for hot tea.

Here you go:

Open House Punch

2 1/2 c. Southern Comfort or good bourbon
6 oz. can of frozen OJ (thawed and undiluted)
12 oz. can of frozen lemonade (thawed and undiluted)
2/3 c. lemon juice
3 liters of lemon lime soda
ice
mint sprigs
lemon slices

Combine liquor and juices stirring well. Add soda and ice and garnish (if desired). We put the first 4 ingredients in a pitcher in the refrigerator and chill very well. Then, when we are ready to drink we add the chilled soda and no garnish.

We love BCV for F&W but my first choice for this trip was Kidani!! There was nothing available... :rotfl: And Bob and I will be luxuriating in a 1 BR villa instead of a studio because that was all that was available at BCV.

Thanks so much for posting that again -- it sounds so good!

I've never actually stayed at BCV as I've only been a member for about a year now...but I've visited and it's such a nice resort! I own at Kidani so I had the booking advantage there, but thought it would be nice to be near Epcot for F&W. I was going to waitlist but it's fewer points to stay at Kidani (standard view) so I just decided to keep what I have. I'm staying at Kidani for the first time in August. Actually I was there on opening day which was pretty cool. :thumbsup2 Hopefully I can snag a stay at BCV soon.

That sounds even better than the Open House Punch -- I have a thing for slushy drinks...:)

Thanks for the info. Just a couple more weeks and I can make my ADRs.

I'm headed to the shore for the weekend (along with everyone else in NJ, especially since the weather is finally supposed to be decent) so probably won't be around much the next few days. Hope everyone has a great 4th of July celebration!!

I guess the problem is that when it comes to hot tea, I like a more savory? tea or even a bland tea, I guess. But, if I just make tea and then make it cold, blech! It's not sweet enough. So, then I've tried to make a sweeter tea and the sugary flavor rivals that of cotton candy! I will try mixing, as you suggested. :goodvibes
I don't know what is wrong with me. I am a perfectly good cook, but when it comes to baking and mixing drinks I seem to have a mental block. :confused3

***Also, I am sure I missed it way back when in this thread, but what cruise line are you and Jay sailing on next year?

Ohhh my fellow stone sufferer... I have great sympathy for you... I seem to get the dreaded pebbles as I call them on a semi regular basis... Did they tell you about the lemon or lime juice with the olive oil remedy? Not sure about the stones, but it makes a lovely vineagarette...

& wit the tea... First... use a good tea... I use Tetley's British Blend... let it steep for a bit - You should NOT be able to read clearly through tea (my SIL I do think just passes the tea bag OVER the cup, it's so weak...) If your guests just like to put in their own, then have lemon, sugar, sweet and lo, etc on hand for them.

OUR tried and true family recipe is to take the tea, put in about 1/3 of a can of lemonade concentrate and about 1/4 cup of sugar - But that's for a large pitcher of tea... mix it all together and taste... I've been drinking it since I was little and it's my fave...

Or you could try a flavored tea...

Ok... maybe it was us North Jersey people but we always said we were going DOWNTHESHORE - and YES... it IS all ONE WORD... :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: (and for all those not from Jersey.. we don't have beaches... we have the shore...)

you might like an herbal tea ... something that mixes a little sweet with a little more earthiness if that makes any sense. I don't care for overly sweet tea flavors so even with the blackberry sage we use a ratio of one specialty tea bag to two black tea bags. And it seems to work for us.

You could just buy yourself a big gallon jug, fill it with water and stuff it full of ta bags and let it brew for a couple of hours in the sun. We used to make sun tea all the time ... love the flavor.

As for cruising next year ... we are on the Westbound Repo in September 2010. I see you have a cruise ticker ... when are you sailing?

omg Blackerry Sage used to be my jam, because I used to be able to get it free at work! yum!

Hi SmallWorld71, I'm new to these parts, but I can help with your Tea query.

For plain black Tea, the Spouse really likes Lipton Iced Tea Brew. I brew 2 tea bags with 4 cups of boiling water in a small glass pitcher. After steeping I remove the tea bags and pour the tea concentrate in another normal sized pitcher that is filled with cold water and just top it off with more cold water. I find that this gets the best flavor, and the Spouse likes his plastic pitcher, so brewing it this way doesn't get any plastic-y taste into it or discolor it as much.

And if you want to get fancy, I can wax about tea all day, I have 7 years of Barista experiance.:thumbsup2 What I do for my tea is I use loose leaf from Teavana which is like the Starbucks of Teas. Some of their stuff can be a little pricey, but I go in there knowing what I want and don't let them talk me into anything I don't need. And they have tons of free tea samples brewing that you can try. drool...

My current favorite Iced Tea blend for the summer is an mix of Oolong and White Tea. They do have less expensive oolongs, but I like this one alot. I brew it similar to the way I listed above, I just dump the tea leaves in a small glass pitcher, fill it with 4 cups boiling water, steep (I add the white tea 1 minute later then the oolong), and then I pour it into a pitcher with a strainer/funnel combo to keep the leaves out, and add cold water. So good on a hot day like today was!:woohoo:
