Belly Up to the Bar With Bendy and Her Friendies!!! Button Pics & New Thread Started!

I haven't eaten at Rezzaz; there are so many new places in Asheville since we lived there it makes my head spin. Most of the time when I/we visit now it's to go to a friend's for dinner or to Bele Chere. I have to say a lot of times we just go to Cornerstone on Tunnel Rd. because I can't get an gyro here anywhere! Oh, we did try a really good Italian/Greek place in the Woodfin area last summer--I can't remember the name of it. It was new then, agh, I can't remember.

We are able to get several Biltmore wines here; luckily my favorite is the plain and simple American Riesling. I'm still hoarding my bottle of Christmas wine for some reason!

Greetings all!

Just finished up our federal and state taxes ... would have had them done a month ago but for the blue screen of death episode we were visited with. Oh well ... at least they're done for another year.

I'm uploading pics from the Flower & Garden Festival (2007) but it's taking a long time because we lost our bulk uploader application when Jay reinstalled all our updates. I don't know why some updates "took" and others didn't but it's taking a looooooooonnnnnnng time to get those pictures taken care of. This could be problematic come October, but like any good American and Scarlett O'Hara ... I don't want to think about that now; I'll think about that tomorrow. :lmao:

Honeybee ... sure hope you can come to WDW in October ... it would be mucho grand to meetcha in person. And I think I owe you and heather a Kir!

I'd better start writing down who I owe what drink to ... otherwise I'm gonna forget. And I'm not joking. Tonight I brought home Jay's winnings from the NCAA pool from my employer ... he won with enough overall points that it didn't matter which of his two "final" teams won the game tonight... and I gave him the envelope full of cash to count and then he gave it back to me and then I lost it somewhere in the house.

$440 in cash just up and disappeared for two hours because I couldn't remember what I'd done with it once he gave it back to me. :scared1:

Can dementia set in before the age of 40? :confused3

I think I need to get some sleep ... and would you believe after 5 weeks of jazzercise I haven't lost any weight? :headache:

if you like Jon Krakauer's book try Into the Wild as well.

And once you're done with Into Thin Air try to get a copy of The Climb by Anatoly Boukreev. (You will know who he was once you finish ITA)

I would very much like to read Boukreev's account of the expedition ... just to have another perspective. What did you think of it?

And Into the Wild has been on my radar for a while now I just haven't quite managed to get to it yet.

Bendy wants to know why there's been nothing announced about that review contest. She suspects that it was canceled and has decided that she is not supposed to win nor would she be allowed to win. This disgruntles her because she spent many hours polishing her submissions and also because two friends (one on-line and one in the real world) spent much time helping and encouraging her to "go fer it."

to quote Martin Prince ... "MY GEODE MUST BE ACKNOWLEDGED!!!"

The other day I started reading somebody's Disney Food report and they included a disclaimer that readers should not expect an oybolshoi caliber report. You KNOW you've reached Disboard VIP status when you're held up as the gold standard of reporting

Congrats on winning all that money! That will go along way toward funding some meals at Disney.

I'm going to be making Easter candy today. I'm not really doing Easter baskets, since the youngest person who will be here is my sister, and she's in her twenties now too, but I'm going to do one big basket for the whole family, though that's going to be more of a decoration. I did find the cutest little stuffed bunny though for $3 that I got for it.

Today I'll be making coconut truffles, chocolate-covered peanut butter eggs, and molded chocolate in the shape of bunnies and flowers and stuff. I'll also be doing dyed eggs, though I'll be waiting until the weekend to do them.

That sounds worth going off my diet for. Since I'm not going to be invited to your place for Easter would there be a chance of getting the recipes? Coconut and peanut butter are two of my favorite flavors.

We have the annual family Easter brunch next Sunday and I always do the "egg" dish. This year I'm planning to make the Breakfast Pizza from Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary Hotel.

Oh goody. Can't wait to see your pictures! I went to F&G in '06 and it was so pretty. It is so blah right now in Connecticut I could use a big dose of spring-- if only in pictures!

Congrats to Jay! $440 will buy quite a few drinks in October... if you can find it! ;) Just joking I lose things around the house or even just on my desk constantly! :sad2:

Well that is frustrating! But hang in there!!

I thought we might be at the DL food and wine this year but no such luck. My aunt still hasn't found her own condo, and if we go we would stay with her. Maybe next spring--we'll see.

Well, I'm home with a sick whogirl today. She's so pitiful. So the menu du jour is applesauce, Sprite Zero, chicken soup. Anyone know of the appropriate wine to go with that? (For me! :rotfl:)

Update on Biltmore; now we'e wondering about getting Dollywood season passes instead, thinking that dd could enjoy that with us all year. SIL (the good one) and family get passes and so do our neighbors, so we would probably have plenty of opportunities to go for the day. We have two days to decide till her birthday, so I need to get off the fence. $100 for us at Biltmore for one day, about $215 for the D'wood season passes good through Dec. She hasn't asked for anything big is why we're trying to find something she'll really enjoy.

Hope your whogirl gets better! :( and I think any wine goes well with helping a child get better! ;)

Sick kid or husband, in my book, any wine should work.

Having been to both I'd choose D'wood!:thumbsup2

Don't worry.. we won't... :cool1:

Sorry to hear Whogirl is under the weather... tell her Tink rules is too and for her mom... I suggest a nice baileys on the rocks or in some coffee to make HER feel better...

(I wonder if Baileys and Vicodin could take care of a kidney stone... :scratchin)

Sorry I haven't been a good poster here. I'm spending too much time on the Dining page that I forget about this one. But I did go out to dinner the other night and thought I should share. My kids had a Water polo game at this place North of us. It is BRAND NEW community. We live in a very old community in comparison. Anyways... we've always wanted to try Guy's restaurant from Diner, Drive-in, etc.. on Food TV. So, here was our chance. It is called Johnny's Garlic (not sure why though?)

It is modern looking on the outside. Not really my style. It really didn't have any character to me. Here are some inside shots:

The menu:

Dh ordered a beer. He said it was HUGE not something he'd normally order on non-vacation time (although the waiter warned him)

We got Foccocia bread (spelling??) and olive and vinegar to dip. The bread was yummy. I haven't had some in a long time that tasted this good and fresh. I didn't dip because it usually upsets my tummy..

Dd7 ordered mini-burgers with cheese. The fries were very good for some reason.

Dd11 ordered the adult sized pizza (she just came back from water polo games and was STARVING)...

Dh ordered the Buffalo Steak Dish (the signature dish there)... It came with mashed potatoes and some sort of greens. The meat was fatty to him. He said that it was okay. He was expecting more a WOW factor since it was the signature dish.

I ordered Bacon Wrapped Prawns with Chipotle sauce over Mashed potatoes and veggies. The bacon was not cooked (in fact it was pretty raw to me) but I wasn't planning on eating too many as it is fattening. So, I just ate the prawns. The sauce was spicy almost too spicey. The mashed potatoes were excellent but too rich. Finally, the veggies were very good.

The girls wanted dessert so, they shared a Brownie Sundae. It was the best thing we had besides the bread basket. The brownie was warm too.

Overall... this was a THUMBS DOWN restaurant for us. We weren't impressed. I was really expecting a WOW factor so, I think I over thought the restaurant. Definitely won't go out of my way to try this place again. I do know if I ever get to S.C. I'm trying Paula Deen's Restaurant. I've eat at Emeril's in Vegas, Bobby Flay's in Vegas and NYC. I loved their restaurants so, we were a bit disappointed here.

I'm not seeing any pictures... maybe it's me... want to go and check you link again??? (you know how we are when we don't have pictures!!! :rotfl2:)

Ok... I am officially declaring myself NUTS!!!!!

It's not even officially announced yet... nothing is being booked and I'm ALREADY posting on the thread for the next PC Repo Cruise for 2011... It's 2 years away... but it's on the Wonder this time... :goodvibes

Nope it wasn't you... I put in the wrong links so, they should be fixed now. Let me know if you see them. I was wondering if the other diners and waiter thought I was nuts taking pictures of our food. LOL...

Naw... you aren't nuts... I can't wait. You'll have to take lots of FOOD pictures for us.. LOL... I'll be on the Baltics in July 2010 and I can't wait!!!

Michelle, I hope your kidney stone gets better! I've heard those are worse than labor pains, so your Vicodin may need a Bailey's boost!

I wish I had some Bailey's right now--it's been spitting snow all day and that just begs for some likkered up coffee.

Maybe I'll make Planky do a food report this time...

The announcement is making him think about attempting to try to figure out if he wants to give it a go and finish his LAST TR... :lmao:

(I'm on vicodin... this could be interesting...)

Hope all the sickies feel better soon. :grouphug: I've got sinus issues related to the weather and all these stupid fronts that keep moving through. :headache:

I wonder if alcohol helps a headache before making it worse? ;)
