Belly Up to the Bar With Bendy and Her Friendies!!! Button Pics & New Thread Started!

Hey Bendy and all!

Just getting back to Belgium from a trip to the US and getting adjusted to the time change (read: I woke up at 4:45 and I woke the kids up at noon). It was great to read a couple of reviews while sipping my morning coffee.:thumbsup2

Best club I've ever had. Ever. :thumbsup2

Well, if you ever have the misfortune to be in Stinktown let us know. Actually there's a fabulous place downtown ... The Tap Room ... that makes Trailhead look like a pit.

I'm sure there are alot of places to eat that you could plan for me.

It's like when people come up here, taking them into Boston for a meal is so much fun and there are so many choices.

Anyone going to head out to Disneyland for their F&W Festival? Every year I keep saying I'm going to go...but I don't. Their offerings look so much better than the ones at WDW, albeit on a smaller scale.

I haven't been to the one here in nearly 20 years and Jay has never been. At this point we both have the attitude that it can't possibly compare to WDW so why bother? We'd be happier keeping the price of admission for ourselves. :rotfl:

So dare I ask what happened in Georgia?

Nothing heart-stopping happened, it was just 100 degrees, dirty, crowded and then it rained...and it rained...and then it quit. With that came the stench of 100's of wet, sweaty bodies and it just became a gross memory. The best thing that came out of it was that I learned the backroads route from Asheville to Atlanta that is about an hour shorter than taking the interstate!

Nothing compares to WDW! It surely smells better in the rain! :rotfl2:

Hey KeepMovingForward!

Since I live close we will be going a few times. We did Taste the 1st two years and then missed last. It's a small PFTS but not as much food and wine. Right now I don't know what special events we will do but we go for the free wine classes that are always great (now I have jinxed myself) at Cal. Adventure! If you ever have questions let me know and when we do go I will be sure to post - !

We attended a local wine shop's Big Wine Event yesterday. It was good & a lot of fun. we went with friends. We were able to try a lot of great wines, the food was good but nothing special. Which was a surprise & disappointment considering the great food we can get here in NOLA. ( It was the wine shop's Catering Dept.) It did give me a new appreciation for PFTS, especially when it comes to the food. This event was $70 pp, it had less food & the food didn't compare with PFTS. The wine however was of excellent quality & very plentiful. The big gripe every year with the party is lack of tables. This was even more of a problem at this local event, very very few tables & they were outside not as close to the food.

WOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! The Free Disney Disney Plan came out today and instead of going to the gym this morning I got online and booked 7 days for my sister and myself. She's never been and it will be my responsibility to make she has the best time and ends up loving WDW as much as I do. I told her how side splitting Brenda is and how great all the other Disers are and I HOPE we can get together.

Brenda - I forgot what page your list of attendees is on but the Dining Plan is only included until Oct. 30 and I've booked us into the Coronoda from Sept. 23 - Sept. 29. I'm headed to work shortly and have all fingers crossed that I can get a paid leave for that week - though that's not guaranteed at all.

Anyway, am going to try and find your list right now.

Yes, last years souvenir cookbook was terrible and I let them know it. I won't be buying that version again. Your pretzel sticks picture looks so good. Are they as good as the ones at le Cellier?

Just saying I was disappointed by last years cookbook also. Got it home and they had recipes that were not at the festival and left out others!

I think I need to put my name in my siggie...I've been talking to you guys here on the Dis for way too long for you not to know it. :rotfl: (It's Alison BTW).

I'm jealous you are so close by Disneyland. The last time we were there was four years ago (maybe five) and we only went because Disney used one of my photos in their Steamboat Willie mural and I just had to see it in person. I saw pics from last years F&W offerings there and it really looked very nice. It didn't seem like a lot, but the food seemed to be much more sophisticated that at WDW's. I hope you share any pics...I'll salivate over just about anything.

Hello Alison! The name thing is weird at times huh!? Kabuki is one of my cats and why I didn't use Chelsi I will never know :confused3:but enough about my strange head! :headache:

We got a picture in a couple of those also! They were cool huh? I am happy you were able to go see it!
The Disney Food Fest is great in many ways! The free classes are really nice and so far have been better then F&W. They are smaller so you get more bang but again we will see this year. Last two were only on the weekend and now they are mid-week also. I will post all I get - my birthday falls in the fest this year and I may go up and get my "FREE" gift card! I wish I could just have a free Napa Rose class!;)

Hello Alison and Chelsi! It's great to have names-I'm Jamie. The name thing is weird sometimes. :goodvibes

And for my contribution tonight, I have a recipe I made for supper this evening. Dh and dd almost licked their plates! Nothing fancy but here it is.

Bisquick Pizza Bake

1 lb. ground beef
1 14 oz. jar Ragu pizza sauce
1 med. onion
1 green pepper, both chopped
2 tbs. oil
1 cup shredded cheddar
1 cip shredded mozzarella
3/4 cup Bisquick
3 eggs
3/4 cup milk

Preheat oven to 350
Cook onion and pepper over medium heat in the oil until soft. Add ground beef and cook until browned. Pour into 9x9 glass pan (I had a 7x11). Spread pizza sauce over the top of meat and then sprinkle with the cheeses.

Beat the eggs in a bowl and whisk in Bisquick. Add milk gradually and stir until smooth. Batter will be thin. Pour over meat and cheese mixture and bake for 40 minutes until golden brown.

We had this with a salad and it was yummy!

Hi Jamie!:flower3:

Nothing Fancy? Sounds great to me ... I wish I had some! Thanks for posting this .. I will write it down.

That sure sounds easy and fun! Think I'll give it a try and maybe sprinkle a little fennel seed over the beef to give it that "hint of Italian sausage" feel.

Welcome back Briarrose. Did you go to Bruges? The scenery looked so cook in the movie by that name.

Hi Alison :cheer2:

Just saw this in Scott Joeseph's Orlando Sentinal food blog - since a lot of us are going to F & W. How many of you are going to book events and which are the best and worth the high cost, in your opinion?

Another Disney layoff, this one affecting the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival

Nora Carey, project manager for Epcot's International Food & Wine Festival, is the latest name to surface among the nearly 500 rumored to be laid off by Walt Disney World this week. Carey also oversaw the Tables in Wonderland program, which until recently was known as the Disney Dining Experience, a discount program.

Carey had been with the company for a total of 13 years, beginning with Disneyland Paris. Over the years, however, she worked for other companies, including the Paris Ritz. It was while she was there that she was approached by Disney's Dieter Hannig and Rosemary Rose, who convinced her to leave Paris for Orlando to head up the annual Epcot event. Ironically, both Hannig and Rose have also left the company recently, Hannig by voluntary separation and Rose by resignation to accept an executive position with another company.

When I asked Carey what she thinks will happen with the festival this year, she was cautiously optomistic. "I think it will be very different in scope," she said. "I think the look and feel of the festival will be different."

Carey said the Marketplace kiosks, the little booths set up around the World Showcase to sell samples of food from various nations, have always been one of the most popular aspects of the weeks-long event, so those are sure to continue. But beyond that she couldn't speculate.

One thing that won't happen is a return of the Bocuse d'Or this year. The biannual cooking competition was a highlight of the 2008 festival and wasn't scheduled to return until 2010. But Carey and Jerome Bocuse of Chefs de France were planning to have the event again this year in order to give the winner a better chance to train for the main competition in Lyon, France, in 2011. That plan has been scrapped, she said, as has one to have an international pastry competition as part of this year's event. (That one was dropped more because of climatic reasons than economical.)

Carey added that Marianne Hunnel and Kelly Block would continue with the culinary programming of the festival and has faith they will keep as much integrity in the project as possible.

Carey said she's not sure what is next for her but she finds it difficult to move on. "You work so hard to build up something," she said from her home in Celebration, "it's hard to walk away."

PLEASE, can you post any recipes that you get at the Festival? That includes handouts or demos? :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship:

I'm a hard-core Disney recipe collector and getting any from the California F & W Festival is very difficult.

Well, I guess I can stop checking the Bocuse USA website since this just answering my burning question. :sad1: Thanks for posting this, I didn't catch this latest announcement.

I haven't read much of this thread at all, but I would like everyone's opinions on my Easter dinner plan.

I'm the only one in the house who really cooks, and we have extended family coming, so I would like to go above and beyond this year.

This is what I'm thinking about so far.

Blue Cheese & Fig Phyllo Cups
Bruschetta
Mini Quiches
Spinach Dip

Ham
Zucchini-Parmesan Custard
Strawberry-Orange Compote
Carrot Risotto
Asparagus
Some Kind of Bread (May Cheat and Use Refrigerated Biscuits)
Leek Fondue
Salad

Orange Chiffon Cake
Strawberry-Lemon Cheesecake

I'm also planning on making homemade candies for Easter baskets.

The only thing that's set in stone so far though is the ham.
