Belly Up to the Bar With Bendy and Her Friendies!!! Button Pics & New Thread Started!

The reason why we went..
Wine Spectator Grand Tour! We plan to go again this year! If you like wine and can get to Vegas this is a GREAT event. We talked to the people pouring and they do one in New York and said the Vegas one if the most fun! (It is Vegas!) We even saw Guy Savoy walking around and tasting!

1) There is no such thing as off-topic on this thread! :upsidedow

2) I don't usually like banana-type desserts but that does look pretty good.

3) Please post the recipe when you have time.

4) Thanks for sharing!! :flower3:

I was laughing at myself as I don't even what the Peabody is. I'm gonna have to google it... Recipe coming up...

OK! I guess it was dumb to ask! Food Porn is what it's about right? :cool1:

We went to Vegas last May for a wine event and ate a couple cool places ..
Mesa Grill is 1st! The food is FANTASTIC and not too expensive by New LAS VEGAS numbers. We also went at Lunch/Brunch time which helps! The drinks are AMAZING! We had Margaritas and Pear Cactus Margaritas! No drink pics? I know.. I am sure I drank mine too quick to get a shot of it! :lmao:

I love Mesa Grill. Too bad I forgot my camera on that trip. I bought a disposable but it didn't take good pictures. I've even been to the one in New York but we thought the service was better in Vegas. TFS....

Roasted Banana Bars with Browned Butter-Pecan Frosting... It is 5 points on weight watchers but it has been difficult for me to eat one serving. So, it doesn't end up on my lowfat list.

2 cups sliced ripe banana
1/3 cup packed dark brown sugar
1 TBSP butter, chilled & cut into small pieces
9 oz cake flour (about 2 1/4 cup)
3/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 cup nonfat buttermilk
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
2 large eggs
baking spray with flour
FROSTING:
1/4 cup butter
2 cups powdered sugar
1/3 cup (3 oz) 1/3 less fat cream cheese, softened
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 cup chopped pecans, toasted (I didn't have so, I didn't use)

Preheat oven to 400

Combine banana, brown sugar, & 1 TBSP butter in an 8 inch square baking dish. Bake at 400 for 35 minutes, stirring after 17 minutes, cool slightly.

Reduce oven temp to 375

Combine cake flour, baking soda and baking powder in a medium bowl.

Combine banana, buttermilk and 1 tsp vanilla in another bowl.

Cream together sugar and butter until well blended. Add eggs and mix well.

Add flour to the sugar mixture alternating with the banana mixture. Start and end with flour mixture.

Pour batter in a greased 13 by 9 inch baking pan.

Bake at 375 for 20 minutes. I baked at 350 for 35 minutes since I did a cake instead.

Cool on wire rack.

FROSTING: melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat; cook 4 minutes until lightly browned. Cool slightly. Combine browned butter, powdered sugar, cream cheese and 1 tsp vanilla in a medium bowl. Beat with a mixer until smooth. Spread frosting over cooled bars. Sprinkle with pecans. Makes 24 bars.

Can't we do both? That's what happened at Commander's Palace ... :upsidedow :lmao:

:lmao: Yes but here in New Orleans, no one notices people stumbling on the street! ;)

Okay... I know, I'm a bit off topic here but I wanna tell you about this dessert I made tonight. OMGOSH... it was like WOW.. It came from the Jan/Feb 2009 issue of Cooking LIght.

I saw that recipe in there, can't wait to try it! I love Cooking Light, I think it's my favorite. Thanks for figuring the WW points too!

Had to pop in and give the asparagoose bundles a huge :thumbsup2 . We LOVED them. Even duck slapping DS who normally doesn't care for asparagoose had seconds!

:lmao:

Kabuki, Love the pics! :thumbsup2 Mesa Grill & Table 10 both look wonderful. And here we were thinking that we wouldn't be interested in Vegas because we don't gamble. :confused3 What was I thinking?? I'm going check out the Wine Spectator Tour, wine & great food might just get my DH there. ;)

I think you should let everyone know...its a great thread!

You mean there are people like us out there???

Chelsi ... post it post it post it post it post it post it post it post it!!!!!!!! :rotfl2:

AND ... I just updated the Disney thread with another review so everyone can go read that too!

:thumbsup2 :cheer2: :goodvibes

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: (I've gotta go read now...)

Totally off topic ... one of our other favorite cartoons is The Critic which was woefully under-appreciated. Jay just sent me this link which never fails to reduce me to the squeaks (high pitched laughter with tears).

Watch Me!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :lmao: :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl:

That was too good... of course I HAD to go and watch all the others... :rotfl:

Shovan! Vegas does have enough to keep you going without having to like to gamble. I'd rather spend my money on food and drinks! :thumbsup2
If you have any ??? about the Wine Spectator tour please let me know!

It's official ... we're headed to Memphis for two nights at the end of May for our anniversary.

That may sound a bit like a strange choice, but there is a superb restaurant at the Peabody called Chez Phillipe which we've been dying to try so we're going to spend Friday & Saturday night there at the end of May ... we'll get to hit up some blues places on Beale Street, visit the Memphis House of Blues (a new one for Jay!), have some afternoon tea, check out Mudd Island (another new one for Jay!), and follow it all up with Sunday brunch before leaving for home.

I'll post updates and reviews on the blog once we get closer. :thumbsup2

Brenda-
There is a funky bbq restaurant on Beale Street caleld "Pig on Beale"..
Best BBQ Bologna sandwich ever! My DH had a pulled pork that was heavenly as well. Plus an Elvis singer at 1:00 in the afternoon..How can you go wrong with that?:p

This pretty well sums up how Jay and I think, too. We don't go to Vegas for the gambling ... we go for the food! And I'm still going to do everything in my power to get us out there in May 2010 for Jay's 40th birthday. We desparately want to try Joel Robuchon's uber-fancy-schmany Mansion ... the one with the 16-course tasting menu priced at $385 per person. :scared:

I couldn't find much info on it. Do you have a link for any? Such as the wineries that were there last year?

Brenda, When you do it, you do go all the way don't you? ;)

I'm thinking I'm going to have a tough time convincing Bob for the same reason. It wouldn't be a cheap trip that's for sure!

This weekend we made a final batch of milk punch ... oh, milk punch ... and I was inspired to write this little ditty. I'm not very good with poetry ... I'm a prose kinda girl ... but I thought those of you who also enjoy this beverage might get a chuckle out of my silliness.

An Ode to Milk Punch

Oh, cool and creamy beverage
sprinkled with nutmeg
cubes clinking merrily
face-numbing nectar of the gods
the pitcher empties far too soon
and we are out of brandy.

:rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl:

I guess it wouldn't help if you used non fat milk??? :crazy2:

You only live once! :thumbsup2

And while I'm talking about a pretty darn pricey experience there are definitely many excellent restaurants in Vegas that are very affordable ... relatively speaking. :goodvibes

Hear the latest rumor... we may have to leave a CC for all ADR's... to cut down on those who book, like 12 at a time for the same night???

I have heard rumblings about that ... not sure how I feel about it for all ADRS but I don't think there is anything wrong with it for reservations at signature restaurants. Regardless of what Disney decides someone will be unhappy ... case in point being me and the food & whine festival. :rotfl:

So... I'll make the ressies for V&A's... You make it for Citricos... and if we get, say 20 people together we can hop back and forth between the places???

Oh that will suck... If I have to reserve 10 dinners on one card...

Oh... Platinum card....

I can just see my trying to justify that one to Michael...
