Belly Up to the Bar With Bendy and Her Friendies!!! Button Pics & New Thread Started!

Shovan thank you so much for this! Jacques-imoscafe looks like the kinda places we are looking for. I have been to New Orleans twice now and we are taking a couple newbie's with us. ( I think they will loose it when they see how great the food is!!!! :scared1: ) We all love Oysters and seafood and don't mind moving off Bourbon Street to find really good food. Any local places like this are always the best so Thank You again!:woohoo:

I do have to warn you, it's crowded, noisy & really New Orleans kind of place! There is also a great local club right next door, The Maple Leaf Bar. Looking for info for you, I was surprised to find it on Wikipedia. Don't think all the info is quite reliable but there is a picture of it on there. They always have lots of great local bands like Rebirth Brass Band & others. Different kinds of music, jazz, r&b, rock. It definitely would be a non-tourist type of evening.

Oh no wait! That's sounds totally strange.  What I mean is it would be great if you could join us while on your honeymoon!

Here's a pic of last nights dinner. One for the serious dieters. Not as pretty as the last pics, I apologize for the dish towel in the picture!

Spaghetti Squash with a fresh tomato veggie sauce

IMG_1228b.jpg

Another easy one. I don't have a specific recipe for it. You just slice the squash in half & microwave it 12-15 minutes until it gets slightly soft. Scoop out the seeds & discard. Use a fork & pull it through the squash flesh, it will come out in strands looking like spaghetti.

For the sauce, I used sauteed onions & garlic in olive oil. Then added organic tomato paste, oregano, basil, crushed red pepper, black pepper & sea salt. Then I added fresh tomatoes, bell peppers, lots of celery, cooked for about 5 minutes. Added water then cooked another 5-10 minutes until thick.

(I've also made this type of sauce starting with 1/4 jar of good sauce & adding the veggies to it. I like Newman's Sockarooni Sauce.)

I am way out of the loop here, but does anyone know a recipe for peanut butter frosting??? TIA....:hippie:

I have not made this but it has great reviews on Recipezaar. It also is one of the easier ones. Feel free to tinker with it, some have added additional milk or a little cool whip.
Peanut Butter Frosting Recipe #33520

This is soooo good on a chocolate cake! I usually double the recipe for a two layer cake... peanut butter and chocolate are a great combo.

Oyster's. Have you had charbroiled oyster's? Drago's is a local place in Metairie that has quite a reputation for their oysters. (They get the prime oysters from Plaquemine's Parish, so the raw oysters are always good too.) They also do great fried seafood. And they recently opened in the Hilton Riverside. I haven't been to the new one, but Kathy (TigerKat) has. She can tell us if it's has good as the original.

Someone mention chargrilled oysters.......:worship: Drago's are amazing! The Hilton's location are as good as the Metairie one but the parking is horrendous.

I'm glad to hear they are as good! :goodvibes I'm assuming Kabuki will be staying in or near the quarter, so that's probably doable for them!

Sure... it's -5 at my house tonight and you give me ICE CREAM????

Oh... ok... :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Very good observation... probably more like those dippin dots... sticks to your tongue and doesn't really melt...

Freezing here, too! :cold: 2 degrees this morning and whogirl is on a two hour delay for school. The city school buses don't pick up at everyone's house (like when I was little) but have designated stops so some of the high schools kids would be out at 6:30 a.m. in below zero. I have never seen a bus stop anywhere near our house; the afternoon high school bus drops off at the corner of the elementary school, which is 1/2 mile away. I guess the city is trying to save diesel???

Anyway, it is warm in my house, so I will enjoy reading about Ghirardelli's after I get WG to school! :goodvibes

And Dippin' Dots are just nasty. :p

Another who's in the deep freeze! We've got a great ice cream stand near us that makes their own ice cream. They are open year round and no matter how cold it is out there are always a few cars in the parking lot with people eating ice cream with the heat blasting away :lmao:

We're sitting at zero here in Stinktown. Seems like the right weather for ice cream ... it won't melt. :lmao:

It's not that it won't melt.....It's the Ben & Jerry's theory. They believe you should eat ice cream when it's cold out because it's a heat transfer sort of thing. Eat cold ice cream & it makes you feel warm, or something like that. Who am I to argue when I'm being told to eat ice cream :lmao:

btw, we're up to 23 degrees out now, it was 10 when the kids left for school :scared: apparently I did not move far enough south!

Awww, y'all are making me feel bad for complaining this morning. It was 30 degrees heading out earlier & for us, that's freakin cold!

So who is going to go outside to test this ice cream theory today?

I had a bowl of Edy's double fudge brownie (the light version :guilty: )last night while I was watching Top Chef--that show always makes me hungry :rotfl:

Did you prove the theory? Did you feel warm & fuzzy all over?:beach: Maybe the heat-transfer only works with full fat ice-cream!;)

:wave2: I WILL, I WILL

but will it count.....it's 74 degrees outside right now! :lmao: don't hate me.
