Is bell service available at Animal Kingdom? We don't want to valet park but we would like help with getting our luggage to and from our room. It's still customary to tip $1-$2 per bag? Has anyone else used this service?:confused3

Yes Bell services are available at both Jambo House and Kidani Villiage and it is customary to tip $1-$2 per bag.

Yes, at both Kidani and Jambo. I used it at Thanskgiving to unload 20 bags of groceries for the week.

Here is the real deal on Bell Services and Disney has screwed us again IMHO.

The contracted vendor (Bags Inc) unloads your car, they expect a tip.

They pass your items, luggage, food, what ever to the Bell Service team (usually a Disney Cast Member), and you must be in your room because they expect a tip.

If you transfer your luggage to another resort, it is delivered by Bell Services and you must be in your room because they expect a tip.

Luggage delivered by Magical Express doesn't require a tip and you don't need to be in your room because Disney pays for the tip within the DME contract.

I am another DVCer who dislikes the double tipping required to have your luggage brought to your room from your car. It is ridiculous to drop $30 to get a couple of suitcases and a few bags of groceries to your room when it involves 15 minutes work. Since our luggage is on wheels we often bring them up ourselves and just pay to have our Owner's Lockers brought up. Or sometimes we wheel the luggage inside and then get Bell Services. I am a generous tipper but I feel that the system is designed to bleed tips from guests.

Are you expected to tip if you go to bell services and drop off luggage for a transfer? Can you pick something up at bell services or must they deliver it to your room and if you do pick up do they want a tip?

I think anytime they handle your luggage they expect a tip, especially on delivery. You can store your luggage will bell services, for example if you are leaving later in the day, you don't have to tip when you leave it but they do expect a tip when you pick it back up.

Imagine how nice it would be in Disney allowed DVC members to use the carts to unload their luggage.
Like other TS resorts do.

I would be happy if they simply allowed Bell Services to bring carts to and from the driveway so we could deal only with them and not valet as well. I have seen problems in other resorts when guests are allowed to use carts (leaving carts in wrong places or not returning them, kids using carts as go-carts, walls banged up, etc.)

If you are doing a delivery of your owner's locker only from bell services, what does one tip for that only? And when they pick it up?

When we stayed at Jambo House in June, Bell Services brought the carts to the cars for unloading. The valets may have helped unload some cars but Bell services took over.

That has been my experience as well almost everywhere. I can't remember a time when the valet people helped with our luggage outside the resort. It has always been a Bell Services employee who then came into the lobby with us.

we will be at disney next week and because of some last minute planning are moving everyday for the first 4 days. Not a big deal, i thought as we'll leave our bags at the front desk in the am and go to a park and then in the evening just go to our next resort, and our bags will be waiting for us. Several questions about getting our bags.
1) will they be waiting in our next room? or at the front desk?
2) when the heck am i going to be doing the tipping? at drop off?

thanks, Vince

I'm confused. So I must be in my room when bellservice delivers my bags? I planned on leaving my luggage with bell service if my room wasn't ready and having it in the room when we returned from the parks. I planned on tipping them when they took the bags and stored them for me....is this not how it works?:confused3

Lucky you. At BWV the valets unload luggage and then hand it off to Bell Services. So you need to tip those who unload the car and then those who bring it to the room. At least that is how it has always worked for us.

1) Your bags will be stored at Bell Services. You will just need to contact them to deliver the luggage to your villa. They will not be at the front desk.

2) Personally, I would tip at both ends - but definitely plan to tip the bellman who delivers them to your villa.

It is like it is a scam that is being pulled off

I have no problem giving a person $5-6 dollars to take my 2 pcs of luggage from the car to my room, but I refuse to pay someone to walk it to the front desk and then have to pay someone else take it to my room. I am not cheap but I will let the peson from the front desk take it up. We were at the BC last month and they seemed to be insulted that I would not agree to let them take my 2 bags from the car. Besides, it is good exercise for me. JMHO

Let me repeat what I posted above with additional clarification.

Bags Inc. is a contractor at Disney who's employees work in the valet area.

The Valet is usually dressed in a tie and they give you your valet ticket.

The Runners park and pick up your car.

The Baggage people unload and load your car. They look like Bellmen but they do not take your luggage inside. They take it to the Bell Services backstage area where it is passed off to a Disney Bellman.

If your luggage is transfered, you have to be in your room to accept your luggage and tip the Bellman.

When you call for your luggage to be brought up to your room, you have to be in your room to tip the Bellman.

When you call to have your luggage picked up for check out or transfer, you have to be in your room to tip the Bellman.

Hope this helps make things clearer.

:) Bill
