I feel really stupid asking this question, but we are staying at Pofq in July, and I would like to know what these are before we go.

Everyone seems to really Love them and I have no clue what they are. :confused3

they are a wonderful delicacy- sort of like a cross between fried dough and a dougnut - but totally covered in powdered sugar.

They are fried doughy yummy powdered sugar coated doughnutty artery clogging heaven! Some beignets and cafe au lait at Cafe du Monde in New Orleans is my idea of a nightcap! Be sure to try them at POFQ! :cloud9:

Yummy!

How exactly do you pronounce that? I want to get some on our next trip and don't want to sound silly

Yummy, indeed! :cloud9:

Description:

Beignets were also brought to Louisiana by the Acadians. These were fried fritters, sometimes filled with fruit. Today, the beignet is a square piece of dough, fried in vegetable oil (cottonseed is used @ Cafe Du Monde) and covered with powdered sugar. Served hot, they are absolutely sinful! The beignet is also known as the "french market doughnut" and is the Louisiana State doughnut. :goodvibes

I order boxes of the mix from this site:

Using this mix, they are INCREDIBLY SIMPLE to make!! It's a wonderful Sunday morning treat, especially with a fab cup of CREOLE JAVA (W/chicory)to wash them down! :flower:

I could eat one right now!!! My dh and I went approx. 5 yrs ago and we still talk about how delicious they were. We stayed at POFQ and it was wonderful! This Oct. we will be staying at POP (we have a child now) and are just happy to be able to go back! Maybe we should stop by POFQ for a refill... :)

This looks absolutely delicious!!! What have you guys done to me now!!!! All my years of going to WDW and I've never had one of these. Besides POFQ who else serves these, I must have one!!!!!

We drove over to POFQ one morning just to get some beignets. When we told the gate keeper that, he let us through and told us, jokingly, to bring him back one. He got a good laugh when we dropped off two as we left. pirate:

I see you are a former New Yorker, we like to call them zeppolies. They are quite similar and yummy!! ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo

Thank you all!! :cheer2:

I cant wait to eat these in lets seeeeee 46 days !!! :cool1:

I'm sorry, the PO beignets are NOT the same as the ones you get in NOLA. The ones I had from PO were tough, hard lumps of dough. Not the tender, sweet, melt in your mouth beignets of Cafe DuMonde. We did it once and won't waste our time on these. YUCK.

To everyone who posted a repy on this: GREAT JOB and I am very impressed and you all get a gold star!!!
I'm a New Orleans native. The correct pronunciation, as many of these other Disfans have stated, is "Been-yay" and it is nothing more than fried dough with powdered sugar, but when you get there, if you want to eat it like a real "New Orleanian" (is that even a word???) ask for a small doggie bar, place your beignets inside, sprinkle the powder sugar inside the bag, and then shake it up!
If any of ya'll are ever in New Orleans-I'll treat you to a beignet in exchange for a Disney Pin :earboy2:
Have a great time!!!

That looks like a soppia (sp?) you know the mexican treat....does it taste the same? yum

They taste somewhat like a Sopapia (spelling, what's that?). The main dif. is that they are lighter. There is also a French style (thick and filled) and a Cajun style (light). Both cause heart stoppages :). I can get both here in Lafayette, La. :)

Someone had to mention beignets. Now I'm hungry.

I guess I'll have to get some in the morning. :worship:

One of my favorite things to do is get some beignets and a ice cold milk, then go sit in the Riverwalk food court and watch the boats traverse the Mississippi.

We had a great pic of our little boy's first beignet experience (picture a face full of sugar), but it got erased from our digital camera. :sad2:

You absolutely can NOT go to New Orleans without at least one visit to Cafe du Monde. I believe it's even a state law.
