I just emailed them my opinion of this absurd idea and it was a very undisneylike email to be sure.
I really hope EVERYONE will email them immediately that they will not stand for this outrage.

by the way I always tip more than 18% unless there is a Darn good reason not too.

May I ask what email address did you use?? I will be needing it soon....

From the email it seems that it gratuity would be charged for all food service across the park.

We would also like to inform you that the Walt Disney World® Resort will be implementing an across property policy change regarding gratuity at all food and beverage locations. Effective January 1, 2008, 18% gratuity will be added to all transactions, regardless of party size. Thank you for your continued support.

When a disney CM phoned me acouple of months ago regarding the 18% gratuity for next year i was told:-
1.if on the DDP/DDDP everyone from 1 person up will have to pay a 18% gratuity on the full value of the meal
2.if on the DDP and want an appitizer you will have to pay cash for it plus the added 18% gratuity
3.partys of 6 or more paying cash will have to pay an added 18% on the full price of meal
4.If using the DDE card an 18% gratuity will be added to the full bill before any discount aplyied
5.partys of 1 to 5 paying cash for a meal can tip what they want
This was in responce to an email i sent them regarding the removal off appitizer and tip from ddp next year
Looks to me they have changed number 5 to inline with rest
Guess we will be eating more ofsite rather than poor service TS onsite
Have yet to here if they are adding 18% to CS meals but thats a bit rich if they do

:thumbsup2 Funny how people will panic, even when told the truth. :confused3 The email was for DDE only, not directed at DDP.

panic now then as it aplys to ddp/dddp and premium plans as well

I bet WDW-DINE is hating DISboards.com today.

:rotfl2: Absolutely. And on top of that the new gratuity plan is in the headlines of the DIS on the main page. It states DDE has made the change. This of course answers everyones questions. But I'm sure some will still disagree.

Hey Jack, can you give me a ride to an off site restaurant?:lmao:

Does anyone have anything written from Disney that it's for DDP and DDDP?

I understand that one person talked to a Disney CM about the DDP and got this answer. I tend not to believe word of mouth from one CM.

The only written thing that has gone out was for DDE customers. This makes me believe it's for DDE only.

Maybe Disney is just trying to get rid of the DDE card. Why would anyone pay for a card (65.00 on top of Annual pass fees) to save 20%, and then in the same transaction be charged an additional 18%. Seems like it would make much better sense, money-wise, to just say no to the DDE.

Seriously? Where is your source? This below is from the DIS...

NEW GRATUITY POLICY: Beginning on January 1, 2008, DDE will have 18% gratuity added to all transactions regardless of party size.

I'll still get it because it's still a good deal for me. I pay 18% gratuity (minimum) anyway, so the card covers my gratuity costs for one year of meals at Disney.

:rotfl: :rotfl2: Wow!! So many Dissers will be eating offsite now - good news to me!! Less crowded restaurants and easier to get ressies!!!

I think that we are missing the point. The DDP has become a major cash cow for Disney. So much so that they are now offering several plans for 2008. There are tons of credits not claimed. Pure profit. Gratuity of 18% is only included for parties of 6 or more. Items ordered not on the DDP will be charged a 18% gratuity.

Why charge a gratuity on the DDE and not the DDP? Because Disney makes more money on the DDP. They know that we will dump the DDE in favor of the DDP where we are not forced to tip. If they just canceled the DDE, everyone would be up in arms, (as we are now). The locals are big DDE users and they don't want to loose their business. Down the road they might cancel the DDE, "due to lack of interest by their Guests". It won't be Disney's fault, it will be our fault.

I can see it now, you and I walk into LeCellier, hand in hand, without an ADR and have no wait at 5:30 pm ;)

Yes Yes...eat offsite ! I predict shorter wait times during dining hours.....

Hey, don't forget me! I'd love to join you all. I promise not to eat more than my fair share of pretzel bread. :rotfl:

The DDE is still a good value in my opinion. Consider the the free valet parking and other benefits and it still works out in your favor. You might as well look at the 18% automatic gratuity as a price increase for loyal fans and Florida residents.

I don't understand how this tips DDE out of favor.

I'd assume that most people using the DDE tip 18% at TS locations prior to the announcement today. The exception may be buffets.

For me the announcement today changes nothing about the DDE.

I understand that people may feel forced now, especially when they have bad service. For me, we'll talk to a manager if we feel that a tip is out of line.

DDP = No gratuity unless your party is 6 or more.

DDE = Gratuity

Quick Service = No Gratuity

Regular Dining (Table Service) with no plans = No Gratuity unless you are a party of 6 or more.

It's gonna be an interesting year to say the least! :confused3

This is correct, the 18% only affects those dining at Full Service using the DDE, or parties of 6 or more. No one else is affected.
