Some things to consider...

"Subject to change" is not without limitations. There are consumer protection laws that protect us from being charged fees after the fact that were not advertised. So taking away a dessert is on thing, but adding to the bill is completely different and illegal. The only way around this would be for Disney to offer refunds to anyone who has purchased the DDP.

Also, taking away the automatic gratuity would not affect Disney (DDP). First it would only be the servers who lost the money that Disney provided. Disney already saved money by removing the included gratuity.

Lastly, as stated before. My DDP is pre-paid. If they give me a "bill" for the tip I will still leave what I think is appropriate.

Everytime I have made and ADR they ask if you have the DDE, so yes they do know that you have the card before you even sit down.
I have made tons of ADR's and not once have I been asked if I have the DDE card, the dining plan yes but not the dining experience.

I think "everyone" means everyone with DDE. But not that it matters, I think everyone should eat off-site. Go Applebees !!!
I tend to think it's across the board.

Call and find out

Just wanted to let everyone know that Disney has now changed the policy on gratuity. I am assuming they are referring to table service restaurants. Here it is ...

We would also like to inform you that the Walt Disney World® Resort will be implementing an across property policy change regarding gratuity at all food and beverage locations. Effective January 1, 2008, 18% gratuity will be added to all transactions, regardless of party size. Thank you for your continued support.

I have sent them a email asking that if we believe the service doesn't warrant a tip can we speak to the manager about removing it. I will post when I hear back.

While it isn't often, there are times when we have not left a tip due to poor service. We always tip 20-25% since I have been a server before, the sad thing is that when it is just added to my bill unless the service is spectacular in the rush to leave and get back to the parks I might not think of leaving extra. But, I realize that there are those who do not tip at all so in the long run servers will probably be better this way.

Just wanted to let those with upcoming vacations know so they can add the extra into the meal budget. Those with Disney Dining Plan should also remember it as this past year it was included in the price, now you will be charged for it automatically at the restaurant.

The "DDE" email said this, I don't know that it necessarily applies to "DDP" - someone will have to prove that one to me, as my email was from the DDE TEAM, not the DDP TEAM.

When a disney CM phoned me acouple of months ago regarding the 18% gratuity for next year i was told:-
1.if on the DDP/DDDP everyone from 1 person up will have to pay a 18% gratuity on the full value of the meal
2.if on the DDP and want an appitizer you will have to pay cash for it plus the added 18% gratuity
3.partys of 6 or more paying cash will have to pay an added 18% on the full price of meal
4.If using the DDE card an 18% gratuity will be added to the full bill before any discount aplyied
5.partys of 1 to 5 paying cash for a meal can tip what they want
This was in responce to an email i sent them regarding the removal off appitizer and tip from ddp next year
Looks to me they have changed number 5 to inline with rest
Guess we will be eating more ofsite rather than poor service TS onsite
Have yet to here if they are adding 18% to CS meals but thats a bit rich if they do
Paulh

I agree 100%

I hadn't seen that one before. I didn't realize that some places would still have the gratuity already included (CRT for example). That's great to know :)

(I'm too new to be able to copy the quote, lol. There's a post further up that has a link to the 2008 dining plan and it notes which places still will have the gratuity included in the TS credits).

I called DDE this morning and asked if this was for just those using the card or everyone. The 18% applies to everyone and it is only at table service restaurants. "Counter service does not apply since you don't tip them" is what the lady I tlked to said.

Sounds like it applies to everyone. But feel free to convince yourself otherwise.

The reason is that these places (like Spirit of Aloha) include the gratuity in the regular cash price. There probably is no easy way to remove it and make you pay it separate. :)

Its simple the changes stop people maxing the dining plan. The more expensive meal you order the more tip they force you to pay.

The email was sent to DDE, why is that so hard to understand. Okay, so I just finally go through to them (WDW Dine) and they confirmed yet again that this is for DDE only, not DDP.

I agree with Barley Jack. Just call for yourself since there are too many contradicting posts here.

I think that if you have a bad server it just gives them more reason not to be cordial. They figure that no matter what they do they will still get their 18%.

:thumbsup2 Funny how people will panic, even when told the truth. :confused3 The email was for DDE only, not directed at DDP.

Look on the headlines on the main page of forums.
Guess they answered the question for us.
Says only DDE is changing to the policy.

Can someone give out the email address to send questions to about the dining plan and the 18%....I would like to send an email and hoping that others do as well....
I already knew that doing the dining plan this year (2008) wasn't going to be a GOOD deal as my son will have just turned 10 and hardly eats but now with the extra 25-25 $ per day for t.s dinner tipping I am sure it doesn't make sense....I guess I just took all the extras for granted last time with everything included......

Can't imagine it's worth the $ really.....and it's not that I don't tip cause I do it's just that between the $ for the kids and the tipping it's alot a day for the fairly mediocre food but the convenience of having paid in advance???

Sighhhhhhhhhhh......
