Gosh I hope so, but it's counter service so no tip required either way. Hopefully the cabbie will let us eat our Extra Crispy in the back seat, again with no additional tip.

mmm extra crispy...... :woohoo:

Jack, I know you called WDW-DINE but I wouldn't necessarily trust that either, I'm reserving judgement until an official announcement.;)
Gee...And I thought an official announcement brought us to this point.

As you can see from my post count I do not post often. I lurk but had to login and post to comment how wonderful it is when something like this comes out and all of the commotion on the various boards that it causes. 85 percent speculation, 10 percent folks asking some honest "what does this mean?" questions, with the last 5 percent being any actual information.

Thanks for making my Friday afternoon that much more entertaining.

And BarleyJack...the Riblets will be my treat as reward for appearing to be one that is keeping this in perspective.

If you look on the Disney Podcast board, there seem to be some definitive answers-check the posts from Disney Kevin. I admit I'm surprised by Disney's decision to add 18% to all.

They are not adding to everyone, only DDE and parties of 6 or more. They are working on getting the correct info out to all.

Time will tell on this one as with everything Disney.

If you will check the AllEars site, Deb has made a revision stating this is reportedly accurate but that she has been contacted by several CMs that said it is only DDE and parties of 6 or more.

WOW how confusing is this??? I like most here will wait for a official letter from WDW. If they do this then my March trip will be not on the DDP. I will remove it at once. No fighting I just feel I have the right to decide how much tip to give based on service. NOT FORCED to give the tip.

Waiting for official letter from WDW.:surfweb: :surfweb: :surfweb: :surfweb:

DDP or not...the 18% will be automatically added. I am not sure what having or not having the DDP has to do with it? Unless, of course, you only plan on eating off-site or CS.

To no one in particular: If you are on the DDP, why is this a big deal? Were you not intending to tip?

mmmm riblets....... :dance3:

Mickey Fliers --- I would never tip 18% at a Buffet --- sorry, no can do, as I said before with 5 people the Buffets can get over $200 and I will not give almost $40 for a few drink refills ...

OH MY GOSH.
I came and posted this am when it was on pg. 2 and now pg. 17??!! I am concerned as well but all we can do is wait for an official announcement. Unless you are going TODAY I don't think we need to panic just yet. (hehe, as I am wondering if I should cancel some of my ADR's or not.) ;)

Also, some people are getting pretty snappy and frustrated. I understand that this situation is frustrating for people but if you have a bad attitude or a beef with someone in particular send it in a PM to someone so we all don't have to read it. 17 pages was just a lot to read and a lot of comments weren't adding anything helpful to the convo. THIS IS DISNEY, LET'S SPREAD SOME HAPPINESS.

THANKS!

ps-does anyone take inappropriate posts down? Or, how do you report them? I hope people have the integrity to take some of their posts down. HAVE A HAPPY DAY! IT'S FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOO!!!

No actually I was not going to tip. We are on the ddp and they took off gratuities. Well its their problem not mine. I planned on walking out of each restaurant with the attitude that I will never be there again, so they can't spit in my food the next time for not tipping.
And of course I am joking.
I do intend to tip, but don't like having 18% shoved down my throat. Like the poster above said, since when would tip $40 to refill a few drinks at a buffet? I feel 10% is enough at a buffet. Some would disagree, but that is what I feel is appropriate at a buffet.

Exactly Seashell, by tomorrow it will be old news. Disney is just sometimes too big for it's own good. And then you add the Net to it, and it is understandable that things like this happen.

I'm just trying to build my post number up. It doesnt really matter to me, I'm going to go and spend lots of money, have a good time....and come back home much happier for it.

The e-mail I received said "regardless of party size".

Since the union contract negotiations and the rumoured dining plan changes, way back in June/July, it has been posted repeatedly here on the DIS that DDE users would have an automatic tip added regardless of party size. It was a concession made in exchange for eliminating the gratuity from the dining plan. As far as I can tell, this is just the official announcement of that change. Yes, the wording is unclear, but since the e-mail went out to DDE holders only, I suspect that someone, somewhere thought it would be obvious that it was meant as an across property change in DDE policy.

Must all comments be helpful, maybe some should just be silly and lighten the tone of the conversation. At this point we don't really KNOW anything, we're just sitting around kvetching and that's OK too. We'll all know the truth sooner or later whatever it is.

I think Keys is about to break out in a disney medley......

Is this only for the DPP - if so thats ok with me I dont use it, but if its for every diner then it looks like we will stop going to their restaurants then! A tip is something you earn as a result of good service - it should NEVER be an automatic fee!

Allears now reporting that they also have conflicting information. Some CMs say DDE only, some other sources say all dining. We have to wait and see.

EXCELLENT! We can kvetch and post boost at the same time! I never thought of it that way.

This whole discussion is sort of irrelevant to me too, I'm still going to go, I'm still going to eat onsite and I'm still going to buy the DDE.

But 'power to the people' for those who want their tipping rights preserved.

Indeed.........I guess we're sorta like :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

I understand that people may feel forced now, especially when they have bad service. For me, we'll talk to a manager if we feel that a tip is out of line.

That's where auto tips bother me. I only rarely tip less than 20% anyway, but I don't like not having the option to tip less when service is poor, and I don't like a system that puts the burden on me to spend precious (and expensive) vacation time tracking down a manager to voice my complaint. It just makes poor service that much worse, because not only does it detract from the experience of that meal, it also eats into the rest of the day if I don't just want to let it go and pay an undeserved gratuity.

We'll all be 'frayed' by the end of this, it could go on for weeks. I say we start a WDW lounge thread and gather over there for margaritas. (and fried chicken of course)
