Beetle Food Coloring

I'm assuming you were trying to be funny, but why on Earth would you want to make fun of someone who believes strongly in not hurting other living beings??? You don't have to agree with it, but of all the reasons to make fun of someone, this is pretty weak.

I'm vegetarian and I don't take it personally. Well, maybe a little bit, but I'm the first person to poke fun at myself. :teeth:

Yuck. I guess vegans and vegetarians can't drink that juice or eat that yogurt. Harming the poor beetle for food coloring. :(
If your comment is sarcastic, it is in bad taste (pun intended). You shouldn't pass judgement on the beliefs and practices of others.

I get it. I mean, I'm a vegetarian too and I'm no stranger to how pedantic people can get about what is "acceptable" or not. It really can go too far.

But seriously, make fun of someone because they're terminally clueless or because they have a Trump-esque combover tragedy. :teeth:

I couldn't hack it as a vegan, but I have so much respect for people who care enough about life (no matter how humble the form) that they'll do whatever they can not to hurt it. I guess I'm sad to see it be the butt of a joke...

Just a few quick points... This beetle has been used to color food since the times of the Aztec Indians. It's not new and it hasn't killed anyone that I've ever heard of (besides the bug of course). Many of us purchase apples and other fruit which are coated in a food-grade shelac. More buggy-goodness. It's a big Earth, and we all wind up eating unique parts of it -- one way or another... :rolleyes1

I was being sarcastic, I was not trying to offend anyone, (lighten up). I myself used to be a vegetarian and do to health reasons, I now eat chicken and turkey.

Sombody's not getting enough of that important amino acid called "d-alamine-senseofhumor". I heard it's only found in meat, and most bountifully in salamis and fried pork skins.

Kidding!

If we can't all laugh at the stuff we eat and won't eat, I mean, c'mon! The french eat SNAILS! Even if you like eating escargot, it's still FUNNY!

It's like the old joke -- Who was the first one who looked at a snail and thought, "Hmmmm, looks tasty!"

Hey, it's all natural! It's better then coloring with some chemical. I guess it doesn't bother me. :thumbsup2

It could be worse. I read somewhere that we all end up eating about a pound of dirt in a lifetime - it might have even been every year. :p

Or, as George Carlin said, the first person to look at a cow and say, "I'm gonna go over there, yank on those things, and drink whatever comes out." :scared1:

Well humans ingest an average of 8 spides in their lifetime while sleeping! :scared1:

So give me that beetle food coloring. Sounds tasty.

Extremely interesting....I did a little looksy and it is more than fruit....in fact it is a TON of things but here are some of them.

CONFECTIONERY/FOOD PRODUCTS

  • Oranges, lemons and apples are coated in the producing countries by using shellac to extend the shelf life of the product and giving it a shine which other natural products cannot. Sweets are coated with shellac to achieve a high gloss and a hard surface and also for protection against moisture.
    • Coating for confection, chewing gums, marzipan, chocolate nutties, jelly beans, etc.
    • Coating for coffee beans
    • Binder for food marking ink and stamping ink
    • Binder for egg coating
    • Barrier coating for processed food dried flowers, etc.

Here's a vegetarian who took it in context. At least you amused ME. ;)

You really didn't have to go there, now I'll be afraid to go to sleep at night.
