Beer for your resort room w/o a car?

Can anyone tell me exactly where to find the Downtown Hess Mart?

I’ve read here that you can walk to the Hess Mart across the street from the Boardwalk parking lot and purchase beer by the 12-pack to consume in your resort room.

Now I’ve seen some posts that indicate there is another Hess Mart close to Downtown Disney. I think I saw someone say that it’s across the street from Pleasure Island.

Is this true? Can somebody verify that PI is where we want to go?

We’re staying at POR and a bus ride to Downtown after we arrive would be easier than getting to the Boardwalk. I was going to fit in a lunch at Beaches and Cream or Big River during our beer run, but Downtown would be simpler and we can lunch there or at the resort.

it is.

you have to cross at the light at West side I think.

be warned this is a long, long walk.

I think I would check into having Garden Grocer deliver some things to your room. I have never used them myself because we always have our car, but many here on the DIS have used them successfully. Also, you could take a taxi for a short beer run!

Also, you can get beer in the resort shops and not risk your life crossing busy streets. It is pricey, but you're on vacation and everything at WDW is pricey.

The reason I posted this is because I got the impression it was a very short walk. I know I read that the Hess Mart across from the Boardwalk is a short one, so maybe my original plan of going there is better?

FTR, I tried to search for the thread where I saw the Downtown Hess Mart mentioned, but I can't find it. I swear someone posted that it's a quick walk right across the street from PI.

so true! the gift shop might have it at a better price than the food court.

once you get to the traffic light is a quick walk.

getting to the traffic light is the problem - walking through that parking lot is an adventure to say it mildly.

It does have sidewalk for most of it - but some people actually drive crazy.

they are not paying attention to where they are going - either talking to others in the car, cell phone, or trying to find a place to park - never mind watching for people.

The general store on the boardwalk has beer available and it isn't too terribly priced.
Garden Grocer's will also deliver but I believe there is a $40 min order and a $12 dollar delivery charge.

Buying the individual bottles of beer is very pricey, but I have found that in the resort gift shops where they sell their grocery items they actually sell 6-packs of beer that are much more reasonable (I recall around $10-12+/- depending on the brand).:thumbsup2

I will say that you would probably get a better deal and more brand choices at the Hess, but it may be worth the few extra bucks to skip the time, hassle and not have to fear the crazy traffic!;)

If you post on your resort's thread I'm sure someone who has recently visited would be able to give you confirmation, and maybe some more details of what they are offering at your gift shop.

I just thought I'd at least make you aware of this option :goodvibes

Have a great vacation!!!!!

Thank you, Spiceycat! It does look close and also a traffic light is right there.

Have you been there yourself? And have you been to the Hess Mart that's across from the Boardwalk?

I'm trying to figure out which location would be faster and easier to visit i.e., the Boardwalk or Downtown Hess Mart.

We're staying at POR. Flight is due to arrive in MCO at 12:00 noon. Before I saw the thread about the Downtown Hess Mart, my plan was to take Magical Express to our resort and check in. Assuming that neither our room nor luggage will not be available right away, I thought we'd go for lunch and beer.

To get to the Boardwalk, I was thinking we could take the bus to MGM, then the boat to the Boardwalk. We'd have lunch some place there, then walk over to the Hess Mart and buy beer and hopefully a styrofoam cooler. Then, we'd go back to the Boardwalk bus stop and take a bus to Downtown. From there, we'd get back to POR via the boat (should be past 4:00 by then).

Now that I saw there's a Hess Mart in Downtown, I'm wondering if that would be a better plan. We could take the bus there, eat lunch some place in Downtown, buy beer and then take the bus or boat back to POR.

Seems easier, but there is a catch--the little one will want to have lunch at McDonald's. Lunch at one of the Boardwalk places (Beaches & Cream, Big River or Spoodles) is far more appealing to me.

From the DTD/PI bus stop .. I don't find it a long walk at ALL to cross the street to the Hess.

Everyone views distance differently I guess.

For me - given the walking I do at Disney 'anyway'... I find it to be not far at all.

CG! I think it was your post I saw on another thread about beer. Did you write something about buying soda there?

Please confirm--the Hess Mart is across the street from the parking lot where the PI bus stop is. Correct?

We may still head over to the Hess near the Boardwalk depending on our mood and what-not. It's great to have options!

Here it is.

It is a quarter of a mile from the entrance of Planet Hollywood if you follow the sidewalk as far as you can then cross the street.
