Been Shopping for a HDTV

Our living room has 18' high ceilings.... we've been musing that we need something to put on the wall above the television.

With 18 foot ceilings yes, the bigger TV would make sense. We are in a 1950s style Cape Cod, so the 42 is just fine.

The saleguy couldn't understand that we ony wanted a 42.

Thanks for the info on the tvs. Dh wants one SO Bad and I knew we would need a new stand and hopefully speakers (I HATE the HUGE old wood ones we have down there) but was clueless about the special box and every thing else needed.

Now it's time to add an HD-DVD player to the mix!

I bought my 55" Mitsubishi back in 2001 and paid several pretty pennies for it but that's the price of a somewhat early adoption. I recently got a Sanyo 30" 16:9 tube HDTV from ValueCity for $299 with QAM/ATSC tuner (what a great deal) and it works great in the bedroom

Some day I'll upgrade to LCD or projection but I'm fine w/what I have now. Just have to get a new tuner card (one that supports QAM) for the HTPC so I can get rid of the antenna and use the cable feed.

I'm not sure it is time for HD-DVD yet.... they're still fighting over the format.

We watched Mr. & Mrs. Smith last night, in full HD with DD5.1. Ohwowwee. Freaky. I guess we never really had true DD5.1 before. I actually had to pause the movie once to check on what the cats were doing in the kitchen... they weren't there: The sound was in the movie!
