I need to learn how to open my eyes a little better!! :thumbsup2

I am so happy to have found you all, as I'm a total novice to scrapbooking, and am very intimidated by websites like Two Peas.

Heck, I read some of these websites, and it's like they're speaking a foreign language. I know that I've had great luck with kindness on the DisBoards, and I have no doubt I'll be welcomed here with the same kindness... :hippie:

So here's a brief rundown of my scrapbooking history. It has to be brief b/c there isn't a whole lot to say. I've been buying supplies for 4 or 5 years... not the really expensive supplies like diecut machines, but paper, embellishments, stickers, rub-ons, etc...

It just sits there and stares at me. I have no idea what to do with any of it. :rotfl2:

I've made one page, and I overwhelm myself everytime I try to begin.

I had a daughter four years ago, and now with every year that has passed, I get more and more overwhelmed. Where do I start? Do I ruin her precious baby pictures with beginner pages? What if I can't remember details of things that happened years ago?

I hope someone can help steer me in the right direction.

I need to join a crop, but what do I take? I need help, and for someone to light a fire under my rump. Thank you all so much! :yay:

Welcome to the scrapbook section of DIS! Seeing your sig, I see you are going to WDW in a couple weeks! Congrats and hope you have a magical trip. Sometimes it's easiest to start scrapping a definate theme like a Disney trip. It gives you a tangible starting and stopping point. Get doubles of your pictures when you return (or if you have digital, print extras of those you want to scrap) and take it from there.

At Disney, you will want to save some of your momentos too, like receipts, napkins, extra fastpasses, photopass cards and any other small doodads you receive while there.

:welcome:
Glad you found us! This a an amazingly nice and talented group and I am sure you will fit right in!:goodvibes

Thanks!! I've been reading the tips, and all the stuff I need to save! I found this particular board b/c I wanted to make an autograph scrapbook for my DD4. We have some autographs from our last trip on a regular spiral bound book I picked up in a giftshop while there. Such a boring, little book. Saw some lo's from other Dis'ers and wanted to do something, too!

I was just looking at the Digital Scrapbooking link, and that looks really interesting, too. I've recently started learning about Photoshop, and that route might be a great tool in learning both.

Very excited to have found y'all.

Welcome!!! This group is tons of fun and inspiring.... not to mention enabling!

Welcome!!! Start with the current and work backwards - those memories are fresher :D

If I start with current and work backward.. won't those memories that are already starting to fade, fade even more? YIKES. :lol

It's so sad when you can't remember some of the things that you really wanted to remember. I stink for not creating a journal, at least.

Definately start current and work backwards. You remember current stuff and stories fully still, you only partially remember old stuff. Scrap it or journal the story while it's still fresh before you forget half of the story.

Who us? :rotfl2:

:welcome: Glad you found us!!

I agree, start at the Disney trip, and have fun! It will get you started at an easy place, and with all the cute Disney stuff available, it is so easy to be creative.

get a dedicated notebook for ideas and memories. you'll be surprised too, when you go through your pics the memories will flood back. When random thoughts pop into your head write it down.

When you go to Disney get a stack of postcards and jot down highlights of each day and either mail them home or stash them in your room (bring gallon size ziploc bags for mementos). the postcards will jump start your journalling and make great embellishments for your books.

ask questions, read our questions of the day, and just chat with us. We will help you get started. And join our monthly challenges, we keep a log of how many pages everyone does.

Mornin' all... :)

I'm happy to say that I just finished my first digital scrapbook page. I've decided to work with both real paper and digital paper to see if I can catch up a little quicker. I like playing with the real thing, but I think the digital stuff will also inspire me, and give me ideas.

Here is my first one. It's pretty basic, but I'm satisfied with it.

I do need to learn how to give credit to the designer, though. Can anyone help me with that?

Wow! That page is geat! I am thinking I should amybe try digital. I love being on the computer and this might be a good way for me to scrap!:)

The last thing I need is a new computer addiction, but hey.. at least this one is productive. lol

Oh, and thanks! I appreciate it!

OT- Lewdyan1, I just noticed your signature with all the twirling dates! I was a twirler once upon a time! There aren't many left in my neck of the woods, so it is always fun to find a fellow twirler enthusiast. I competed some (nothing like what you guys are doing) and loved it.

Ogreenlee- fabulous page!!! I really like it. Haven't even tried digital yet, but I always see such great things made digitally. :thumbsup2

Great first page! Your pics are adorable, and the colors are great!

You definately want to note your credits, if you post to any digi scrapping site, it is proper etiquette to mention your designers. There are a couple ways to do this:

1 - as your lower layer (and invisible) type in text of the credits
2 - name each layer with the kit & designer
3 - have an external .txt file with the info (my preference)

You will want to save the info for each piece you use on your layout. If everything is from the same kit, it's much easier, ie KIT NAME by DESIGNER and you're done. Also include all fonts used too! If you use pieces from several different kits, I describe each piece, ie RIBBON: from XX Kit by XX Designer. Don't forget to include any sketches or templates you use too.

Also, until you are familiar with certain designers, you may even want to include the scrap site name or URL of the kit, so you know where you got them in the first place.

The reason I prefer #3 is because many times I will decide to upload my layout at a different site later on and opening a .txt file into notepad is much easier then opening my entire layout. I am also running very low on disk space, so I put my big huge file layouts on DVD and just keep the tiny small .jpg's on my drive. Digging through DVDs for credits would not be a pleasurable time IMO. ;)

I choose names for my layouts and include the year and when I save as .jpg's I use the same name. I also use the same name on my .txt file, so each layout has 3 files until the original is backed up. This makes it very easy to find my credits on the fly.

Welcome, this is a great group! we have loads of fun!

I was way behind on my DD albums earlier in the year so I grouped like photos ie: b-day, x-mas, summer, spring, etc for each year then scrapped them all at the same time, put them aside by year in crop cases until I had that year completed then put in albums. I worked great for me, only had to take out my embellishments, etc out one time then moved on.

Loved your page, you DD is a cutie.

Have fun!
Lisa

Aww.. thanks for all the nice compliments. I really appreciate it. :goodvibes

And Fran, thanks for the help with credits. I'll probably have to read your post a few times to completely understand all of that :teacher: but it's exactly what I was looking for! :thumbsup2

:cheer2:

Thanks! I think I did it ok...

I created a layer and put the name of the kit and designer in the title.

Is that all I need to do?

I like your idea about creating a txt file.

I made my second page! Unfortunately, I can't post it b/c it has my daughter's first and last name. It's a playbill from her first theater camp performance that I snapped a picture of while there. It has her part, CHICK, and her name. It was for Are You My Mother. It turned out pretty cute, I think. I'm starting to get the hang of it a little better. Not too bad for my second day at it. yay

Oh, and now I have one more page than I do real LO's. lol
