This is a response to one of a recent thread about "everything cleaned".

Am I the only one that didn't know they don't wash bedspreads and blankets between guests? :scared1: That is truly disgusting. Please tell me this isn't the case.

Is it announced or written somewhere?

I am truly:eek:

Hotels do not wash blankets and bedspreads very often. You are lucky they change the sheets between guests.

I worked as a maid in a Sheraton for not quite two weeks. The bottom sheet was removed and the top sheet was placed on the matress as the bottom sheet. A new top sheet was placed on the bed.

Glasses in the bathroom were run under hot water and dried with used towels in the bathroom. I was making minimum wage and if I wanted to use cleaning supplies in the room, I had to purchase them myself.

Now you know why I only worked there for two weeks. And this was a nice Sheraton where the NFL football teams stayed at when they were in town. Think about the ones that didn't look so nice....

I usually strip the beds when we leave and put the sheets (wadded up) in the tub under the pile of wet, dirty towels we've used. The next guest is fairly sure to get all new sheets.;)

I love that they "double sheet" the beds in concierge so the blanket is between 2 sheets. Of course if the sheets are dirty that doesn't help, does it? :scared: I thought it was common knowledge that they don't wash the blankets & bedspreads. Gross, but true. I try not to let DS put his face on the bedspreads, and beyond that I just try not to think about it.
Of course if you spill something on the bedspread they will give you a clean one. (We had a blanket at Pop one time that smelled funny, and they brought us another one. I am assuming it was a CLEAN one, but it may have just been a DIFFERENT one.)

It's standard practice in the hotel industry, not just a DVC thing. Sheets and pillowcases are changed between guests, bedspreads and blankets less frequently.

That is a good practice. We always put our towels in the tub, but we will be doing the same thing from now on. Just hope I don't see something under that bottom sheet I don't want to see.....

Please forgive me, but I find this hard to believe. Were the glasses not sealed in a plastic wrap? And just to be clear... If you wanted to use any cleaning supplies to clean the room YOU had to buy them? Were you an employee of Sheraton or a contractor? Did you have to buy the supplies from Sheraton?

Not being snarky, just having a hard time grasping this.

I know that I've seen bedspreads in the bundles the Mousekeepers had with new sheets when we stayed at OKW.

This is NOT a Disney issue, it is a hotel industry issue.
I travel Internationally frequently on business, and it is different in Europe. As I have experieced bedding in several European countries, there is a fitted bottom sheet and no top sheet nor blanket. There is a duvet with a removeable duvet cover per person. (Double/Queen bed 2 duvets). I miss the top sheet, but at least I feel that the duvet cover IS changed between guests. As I experienced in Germany this week, a down duvet was too hot, nothing was too cool. But it was clean!!

What a great idea!

I was going to post what everyone else has. This is not Disney-specific and anyone who thinks that hotels regularly clean/wash bedspreads and comforters between guests is naive.

That's why you should always pull the spread off the bed for sleeping and never lounge on top of the spread.

It's gross - but it's the way it is.

Do you ever take your own sheets? I thought about it, because we drive, but it just seems like a hassle.

Our last trip I took a fitted bottom sheet for the king bed at BWV since we are restless sleepers. Since we have an Owners Locker I left that sheet there and will take a fitted sheet for the sofa bed and two flat sheets to use and leave as well. I like the feel of my own sheets:rotfl:

When I was a child (many many moons ago) I caught impetigo (bacterial skin infection) when we stayed at a not-so-nice hotel. Since then, the germophobe in me makes my DH and DD nuts when we stay at ANY hotel or resort. No laying on bedspread and no blankets near face.

I'm disgusted as well.

I don't know who was doing what on top of that bedspread before I got in the room. I've seen the 20/20 shows about finding "fluids" on the spreads/sheets.

I am totally disgusted by the hotel industry in every way shape and form right now.

The place (private condos at the beach not a hotel) I go every summer tells you that you must supply your own bedding (sheets, blankets, towels and pillow cases) so I am used to travelling there with my own stuff. This will be the norm for us at Disney as well now.

I'm definitely packing a black light since we are driving. I will inspect every inch of that room. Now I'm on the look out for "fluids" and bedbugs. Ugh. is it even worth going on vacation!!

We were told about this several years ago by our housekeeper at Caribbean Beach Resort. Yuck is all I can say. First thing I do with every stay is take the comforter off and store it in the closet. Then I pull back the covers and use disinfectant spray on everything. We have brought our own sheet sets on many trips as well. We never let our grandson sleep on the sofa bed without completely covering it with a king size blanket or sheet before making it up. I too find this whole subject totally discusting and I will be doing as DisFlan suggested and pulling the bedding off and placing it in the tub with the soiled towels.

Even if the glasses are sealed, or have the paper hats, I wouldn't drink out of them. There have been too many news shows & internet videos that show people cleaning them by rinsing or even worse, using the same gloves they clean the toilet with.

That is likely why I've seen an uptick in hotels providing plastic cups in addition to glass - even at nicer hotels.

I travel 50 weeks a year, so I have to ignore/block out most of the germaphobe stuff, but I do throw the bedspread on the floor first, try to clean the remote (or put it in a ziploc - its by far the most disgusting item in the room) and avoid the phone. Those are the worst of the items.

I actually love staying in the weekly rental condos that make you strip your beds at the end of the week. Then I know I have clean sheets.

Not to rain on your all's parade, but if housekeeping staffs don't really clean, as some have suggested, what would keep them from putting your stripped sheets right back on the bed?

Ok, I am one of the naive ones... this is really disgusting....I have seen new comforters, blankets, etc in mousekeeping baskets at SSR and OKW....is there anyway that you could demand clean bedding? Why has nonone challenged Disney or other hotel chains about this? UGGGHHHHH!!!

I read once about someone that "accidently" spills something all over the bedding and then calls housekeeping for new with each stay. Of course if everyone started doing this I suppose they'd get wise to it. Maybe that could be a good way to challenge them as you stated?

I think it is disgusting and I try not to think about it either. I am one of the people you see that washes her hands in the bathroom and than takes my paper towel with me to use on the door handle to open the door, but the truth is those blankets are at least washed once in awhile. What about the couch and chairs? Or all the chairs you sit on in the lobby? They are never washed! Now I would never sit on the breadspread bare bottom, but with clothes on it is probably cleaner than some other things you sit on. (just trying to convince myself so as not to be too grossed out).
