Bedbugs at POR

They had a problem with bedbugs last year at POR around this same time. We stayed at POR and i checked the drawers and the edges of the mattress. We didnt have any problems during our stay.
I imagine that they would address this issue immediately

This is EXACTLY what I have been affraid of since booking POR. I remember all the talk about bedbugs last year. When we stayed at OKW this past February we made sure to check the edging on the matresses as suggested.

I distinctly remember someone here on the DIS reporting about matress covers being used now at the resorts because of the bed bug problem. He stayed not long after the whole bedbug issue last year. I can not remember where he stayed but he did include pictures of this zipper cover over the matress. So, my question is.....WHERE ARE THE ZIPPER COVERS NOW???

I would never have booked this resort had I known this problem was not being taken care of. A matress cover here or there does not solve the problem. How about putting them on EVERY bed?? :confused3

I'm also scared because I've been reading of the troubles people have when requesting a different room. I will be highly upset if I see something questionable in our room and are not allowed to switch.

<<<<<---------------itching right now:yay:

I guess the love bugs don't seem so bad right about now:rotfl:

We also stayed at POR in October, but no bed bugs! We were in AB section building 25. I checked for them when we arrived, but didn't find anything, thank goodness!!!! :thumbsup2

It's kind of gross, however, it is happening at increasing levels everywhere in the us.
This is an extended vk for us. I will be checking the bed and dresser.
I imagine it could even happen with the luggage and such on the plane.
I may be using many plastic sealed bags for clothes and putting those suitcases out in the sun for a day when I get back.

It's going to be very hard. We are traveling for three weeks staying in about 6 different locations.

ACK!!! :scared1: We are staying at POFQ in September! I will be checking for these unwelcome guests first thing upon arrival. Though I must say this has never been an issue for us in any other stays, nor do we know anyone who has experienced this.

A post here cited Poly, AK?????? Uugh....Any others? Anyone heard of any problems at Boardwalk, YC, BC?????

Thx.....

As I said in my previous post, bedbugs can pop up anywhere and are not restricted to less expensive resorts or cheap motels. They arrive in luggage belonging to travelers who bring them from home, so the situation is fluid; a room that has no problem one day can be infested the next if a guest brings them in.

Your best bet is to always check your room, regardless of where you're staying.

We were just at POR the end of March, WL in Dec., we had no experiences with bed bugs at all. The other poster's are right, this can happen at any hotel in the world, not just Disney World.

This isn't a "Disney" thing, it's a hotel thing. I can't imagine checking into any hotel in the world and not checking the bed out first. That's basic travel survival to me.

:chat: Ya ever notice how this is always about somebody who knows somebody, or somebody's relative? For the most part, everyone who posted said, "I've never had a problem and I stayed at xxx". You just don't read posts that say "I myself saw a whole slew of bedbugs right there on my mattress at so-and-so!" Interesting...:rolleyes1

Actually, the guest I mentioned posted right here on the DIS about her experience - and it was bedbugs for sure - validated by Disney housekeeping.

Like or not, Disney resorts have (and do ) sometimes deal with the bedbug issue, just like many fine hotels. Google it and you'll find plenty of real stories.

Just got back from CSR this past Tuesday and I had the SAME problem!
it can happen anywhere....and obviously from this thread Disney resorts are not immune from it.

Well my husband works at a resort up here that had them. A rather pricer resort at that. Around 400 a night and up. So its true that its not just seedy run down hotels that get them.

A few tip's here.... When going to your room send one person ahead before the luggage to check out the mattress seams and headboard and night stands.

If you do bring your luggage in set it in the tub / shower NOT on the flooring or furniture.

If you do get bedbugs dont even think of bring a thing home with you. They are almost impossible to get rid of as they have banned the pesticide that is the best at getting rid of them. They can go behind electrical outlets , molding and floor boards etc etc and go within the walls and live for over a year with no food. You are talking a huge expense . I would rather burn my house down than even think of going through all of that!

Check before you even settle into your room. Its so common place now and better to be safe than sorry.

YOU actually had BED BUGS?!?!?! :scared1: Did you discover them when you first arrived and checked for them OR did mousekeeping discover them while you were out and move you? How did Disney handle it? I would so totally freak!

if they are near impossible to get rid of, how does disney and other hotels do it???
