My friend and her family just returned from a week at POR and she is completely covered with bedbug bites. Is this a common occurance at Disney (not just at POR but at all the resorts)?

That's terrible! I also check the bed/headboard prior to even bringing in my suitcases. I can't image what that must be like. :scared1:

I would hope they informed managment so the room can be addressed to keep this horror from happening to other families.

:scared1: Oh My!!! :scared1: Has any other Disers experienced anything like this? I haven't ever heard of anything. Is there any way to check for bed bugs? We are staying at POR in September!!!

You have to check the edges of the bed by pulling off the sheets. If you see little dark spots along the edge or behind the head board, get out fast!

Bedbugs have been reported at pretty much every WDW resort from time to time, and can happen even at a five-star hotel. It does not appear to be a widespread problem at WDW, not to mention POR, but it can happen. I remember newspaper stories from about a year ago that bedbugs seemed to be invading even the finest hotels in NYC since the tourist season had picked up.

It has never happened to me (trip coming up in Sept., so knock wood), or anyone I know. I suggest checking the beds before you unpack. If you do find bedbugs tell the resort guest services that you need to be moved to a different room and tell them why.

Bedbugs are caused by careless guests who bring the little hitchhikers in their suitcases, not by a lapse in the cleanliness standards of a hotel.

My point is until it is confirmed it was actually bed bugs I wouldn't be worried. We have other bugs down here that could have bitten them.

Bedbugs are not common at Disney.

They are becoming more of a problem all across the United States and Disney is not immune to this.

I try to be aware of the issue whenever I travel.

Not only that, but it can also be an allergic reaction to something as innocent as laundry detergent. I sometimes get a rash that resembles small bites all over my arms and chest from abrasive, industrial strength laundry detergent at hotels. I ask for hypoallenergenic sheets & pillows which they usually wash more delicately.

Somehow, the thought that it might be "other bugs" does not give me any comfort.

We are staying at POR in Sept but I'm not overly concerned. Thanks for the heads up and I will be sure to check my bed when we check in!

More than likely, they are other bugs though. OP, did your friend look and find evidence of bed bugs? Apparently its not difficult to check, a PP described it and I've seen the same thing on dateline.

We've stayed at POR many times and not had any problem.

Your friend might have problems with Sand Gants (Sand Fleas, no see'ums). They are flying teeth that have no respect for persons, cloths, doors, government agencies, or even Mickey! The only defense is liberal doses of Skin So Soft.

That happened to us last May. We stayed at POFQ and we were covered in bug bites when we woke up the next morning. We did let Disney know but at the time I did not think to check for bed bugs. There was not any in our luggage when we got home. It could of just been fleas. All I know is that I mentioned I was itching in the car on the way to Blizzard Beach. I had little red bites on my arms and legs and a few on my neck. My husband and 2 children also had bites in the same places. We just went one night to take the kids to the water park. I contacted a number I was given and let them know what had happened that night when we got home. I never heard anything back.
