Does anyone know whether Disney changes the comforters/blankets as well as the sheets when they prepare the rooms BETWEEN different visitors?

Not to be gross, but I had some unwelcomed guests after my last visit in January. I don't blame Disney too much, because they do have millions of guest from all over the world with varying degrees of hygene. In October 2002 at Port Orleans and I seem to remember seeing bags outside of rooms being cleaned that included everything ----including the comforter. In January I stayed at All-star sports and don't remember seeing anything that would indicate whether Disney changes everything there. Does anyone know what the policy is and whether it differs for different resorts?

Hi fervour,

The beds are suppossed to be completely stripped and changed between guests. I will tell you why I know this. We checked into the a concierge room at the AKL on Feb 1st. The room had two queen beds. We usually use one bed to put stuff on and the other to sleep in where it is just the two of us. So we took the three pillows off of the bed that we were going to use for storage and pulled back the covers on the bed closest to the windows and low and behold there was what looked like dried blood on the under side of the bedspread an on top of the corresponding pillow. Gross. I called housekeeping and they apoligized up and down and said they would have someone come up and strip the bed. We were on the way out so we just stopped by the concierge desk and gave them a heads up and they also apolizied up and down and said they would make sure that everything was all set before we returned. my husband put a pencil mark on the side of the sheets just to make sure that they did strip the whole bed and not just the bed spread and pillow case. When we came back the bed had been completely stripped and remade and turned down for the night. Something like this can happen anywhere we were happy with how they responded and handled the situation. I would reconmend that if you check into a room check it out and if you find any housekeeping issues contact housekeeping via the phone in your rooms ASAP and give then the chance to make things right. The concierge staff was very upset that it happened and they were the ones that indicated that the beds are suppossed to be completely stripped between guests.

When we stayed at CBR the housekeeper told us that it is the procedure to change all bedding between guests. At POR we could tell the comforter had not been changed and my DH called to have this done. When the housekeeper brought it we asked what the policy was and she told us they do not change the comforters or blankets between guests unless it is requested. So I guess it just matters where you are staying and what rules the managers inforce.

Thanks for the info DisneyFreaks and Tiffany. It certainly isn't going to stop me from going to DisneyWorld (going back this October). Out of all my vacations this is the first time ever this has happened anywhere--so I'm guessing it's pretty rare. I do personally know of one other person that this happened to (It was NOT at Disney). I guess I'm a little freaked -----bordering on paranoid right now. I am considering buying RID spray from Wal-Mart for my next vacation (This February not at DisneyWorld) and spraying the whole bed before I sleep in it. Am I just being paranoid now?

Again, for anyone wondering, I am NOT dissing Disney. I LOVE the place! Bad things can happen anywhere.

There might be something to the advice to contact housekeeping if anything is awry. There was a huge puddle of water under and around the toilet when we got there. I'm not squeamish and it was late so we just mopped it up with a spare towel and left it because we didn't want to have to wait for housekeeping since we were getting up early the next day.

Just curious, Is there any people out there who pre-treat/disinfect their rooms before they relax? Of course, by October I may have put this all behind me. I sure won't let it spoil my future vacations!

I have always sprayed down the beds and anything else we might touch with lysol as soon as we get into the room and then head off to the parks but recently someone posted that lysol doesn't work on anything but hard surfaces so I don't know what I will do on our next trip. I bring along those clorox antibacterial wipes in the refill packs to wipe off every public toilet before using them too.

DisneyFreaks now you have me curious about that one. I just read my can of lysol and it said it can be used on mattresses and bedding, etc. I even sent Lysol an email to double-check. So, well find out the answer to that one soon enough.

I always take my can of Lysol, have been doing it for years. Since I saw the 20/20 show that showed fecal matter on the phone!!! Too disgusting. I always spray wipe spray doorknobs, phones, toilets, showers, lamps, etc. Probably doesn't get rid of everything but it makes me feel a little better.

Really jwfla422? YAY!!! Now I can stock back up on my lysol and feel secure again. That was really starting to worry me. The post that mentioned it did say lysol was suppose to come out with a spray just for fabrics but if the can says it works already then we are cookin' aren't we. Thank you so much for that. Like ceecee posted, since I saw that 20/20 I go lysol crazy. And anything else I can find to kill germs. But I am not a fanatic!!! LoL

Take it from me, someone who is in the hotel business, the comforter is NOT changed when the room is made up the next day or when the room's guests will be checking out.

It is only changed when the housekeeping staff notices something wrong with the spread!

This is why in every hotel I always pull the comforter to the bottom of the bed and basically avoid it for the whole trip! LOL!

When we stayed in a 2 bedroom villa at WL we immediately noticed this white stuff (I don't even want to know what it was) dried up all over one of the comforters. We called housekeeping and they came and changed out both beds. I still cannot believe they didn't notice this stain when they made up the room. It's like they waited to see if we would mind.

Also wish I never opened or read this thread.

Got my bleach wipes, lysol and rubber gloves. Also some super-powered magnifying glasses, you can bet I'll be checking everything out.

I think I'm going to be sick.

They should change the comforters after every stay-it wouldn't be that hard to throw them in the wash. Lice is more prevelant in Florida for some reason and I hate to think of someone getting it from a comforter that hasn't been washed.

Fervour: is that why you were going to buy the RID spray?

Be careful. Rid is really bad. Not as bad as it used to be but don't you have to be out of the room for an entire day after you spray it?

When we lived in Florida, I worked in the nursery at the local Y and after the 3rd lice break-out in 6 months, my husband made me quit my job.

IMHO, Disney should wash ALL linens when someone checks out because certain stuff can live forever.

I agree with vbfamily about the RID spray...after reading all the warnings on it, you might decide it's just not worth it!

Hi Steffi and vbfamily. No I haven't read the warning on RID. You are probably right. It probably isn't worth it. I am still a little freaked about my upcoming trip next week (not to Disney).

I think the general consensus is that Disney is cleaner than most. But there still is no consensus as to whether Disney's policy is to change the ENTIRE bedding at ALL resorts. I tend to think not, since it is not an industry standard (thanks for the info GlennandAnn). I guess you just have to hope for the best. After all, infestation from hotel bedding has to be rare. If it were a huge problem, then the health department would put policies in place.

Thanks for being the voice of reason. Bugs are gross but can be taken care of fairly easily. The other posters brought out more pressing concerns, i.e. germs. Who would have thought there could be feces on a phone??? Fortunately I only use my cell phone!

Maybe the lesson is age old ---wash your hands THOROUGHLY before you eat or touch your face. It's a dirty world.

Wow,

All I can say is disgusting. Now there's something else to worry about. I never gave it a second thought and always used the comforters. How naive was I.

I will be taking Lysol now as well.

I too wish I had never opened this thread, but at least it did teach me some things.

I too saw a little of that 20/20 episode on yucky hotels but did not think about in reference to Disney. I wil definently request a fresh beadspread and bring my new Linen Fresh Lysol with us. It is a fabric lysol. I'll wipe down the remote and phone as we like to get the Mickey Mouse wake up calls and my dd loves to answer the phone. All I can say is           and           !
