Anyone else's infant get bed bug bites from the pack and play disney provided? We stayed at Villas at Wilderness Lodge

I just called the resort to let them know, and to make sure they sanitize all the pack and plays better.

SO disappointed right now ...

First, I am really sorry to hear of the bed-bugs. It is gross, and I don't blame you at all for being upset. I have not used that pack-n-play at Wilderness Lodge.

Was your infant the only one bitten? Chances are those little critters are all over that room by now. I have heard horror stories of people bringing them home from Disney in their luggage, and having to spend lots of $$$ getting their homes treated, along with lots of laundry, bagging up the stuffed animals, etc...let alone the gross factor.:scared1: I know that Disney is not the only hotel w/bed bugs, but it sure does skeeve me out.

Now the first thing I do when I go in the room, is check for the little buggers. Sorry your little one got bit.

i have a rash on my arm, different than the baby's. i know they effect people differently. now im wondering about that. ive called the lodge and told them, so they can clean the room/pack and plays better. ill pm you.

It makes sense that they would travel with the pack'n'play. Even if the hotel takes out the mattress part to clean, those critters could certainly hid in the wheel covers.

I am sorry to hear about your baby being bitten.

Have you already brought your luggage inside? If not, keep it outside until you know for sure.

Best of luck and Pixie Dust that you didn't bring any home.

already brought it inside ... didnt even think about that ... oh no. what should we do?

Go grab you suitcase/bags and put them in plastic garbage bags and stick them outside. The heat from the sun will toast them. I think 3-4 days is recommended.

Gather up all your clothes. Clean or dirty and if they are in the laundry basket, all those clothes too. Wash them in hot and dry them on high. Personally I would dry them extra long, but I'm wiggy that way.

Read that other thread. There is good information there.

Keep an eye on the rooms you had your clothes/luggage in. You will see signs of them. They don't just hid in your bed. Look at the areas around the bed. Baseboards, outlet/switch covers.

I would be looking for a pest control service that specializes in bed bugs so you have names to go to if you need.

I really do hope you didn't bring any home.

Did the doctor confirm they were bed bug bites?

Denise in MI

Confirm with a doctor that what you have present is bed bug bites.

I'm not saying it's not possible.. but it would be unlikely that only person in the room would have the bites ... but certainly possible. Confirm your suspicions first.

THEN write a letter to Disney explaining your situation and asking for their help. They actually have a fairly detailed regimen and plan when this unfortunate situation occurs.

Good luck.

I also wish to know the answer to this question. Until you have spoken to someone that can diagnosis that it is in fact bites from bed bugs, there is no reason that Disney would take you seriously. Why should they? If they had someone come in every time someone said they had been bitten, they would be spending a ton of money for no reason.

If you do get it diagnosed then contact a professional. They will tell you what needs to be done.

Please confirm it is bed bugs and not chiggers or some other bites/rash.

I had some bites on my legs and while they looked similar to a bedbug bite, they were not. they were actually from some pesky bugs near the docks

*knock on wood* we have been very lucky and never had bed bugs. I hope your little one isn't going too crazy with itchiness.

doc said there is no way 100% she can say its bed bugs, but that she is daignosing him with that. she said a doc can never say with certainty.

Hi! OMG...I am so sorry to hear about the bed bugs! I hope the little one is doing ok!

Thanks for calling the resort and letting them know. It is really nice that you looked out for future guests!

Are you able to say what the resort said to you about it? If you could mention what they said. If you already posted it, I am sorry, I must have missed it. I hope they are taking a proactive approach.

I honestly do not know what to do now, we will be at the WL in 26 days. I have a pack-n-play requested...I do not want to treat it with pesticides. I do not know if changing resorts would help. It appears that a few people have encountered them...

Hope all is well with the little one and your issues with the bed bugs will be behind you soon. Good luck

There is no pesticide for Bed Bugs. You can treat them heat or cold. The pesticide that used to work on them is no longer allowed to be used in the US.

I would open the pack'n'play outside your room to inspect it upon delivery. Take it completely open than apart as you can. Not sure if the one you get will that removable mattress part. The one we used to own, the carrier was really the mat.

Bed bugs are not microscopic. You will be able to see them with your naked eye. Look for signs of dried blood or black spots. You can google to see what the bugs themselves look like.

They are becoming more prevalent, but they aren't at epidemic levels yet. I would be cautious but not overly worried about them.

There are websites that describe how and what to look for much better than I can. I know enough to get in trouble. ;)

Oh, yes, bed bugs are at epidemic level! They have been in NYC for awhile now. There are now clothing stores being closed because of bed bugs. There is no need to panic, just be educated and careful and you will be fine. Don't let all the naysayers tell you they aren't a big deal because they are! The reason 1 person can be bitten and have a rash while another in the same area doesn't is because not all people are allergic to the bed bug bites. You only react to the bites if you are allergic, so yes 1 person can have bites, while no one else will.

Epidemic in NYC, not Disney.

Education and following through on what you learn is important. Don't learn to look for the signs and then not do it. Check the areas they can be found in your hotel room BEFORE bringing in your luggage.

That isn't scaremongering, that is being cautious.
