Becoming Lean, Mean, Endurace Event Machines in 2008

I'm back!!! So... the Doc appt. Hmmm, it was OK. I'm not loving the doctor. He was not very personal at all. He didn't listen well and he jumped on me about my weight. He asked how much I weighed when I was 16 and proceeded to tell me that I need to lose weight...duh. I know that. I told him "well, 188 is better than 206. I was there a few months ago." I understand this gatroinerologist is into nustrition and how it affects his area of study, but I didn't come to him for his opinions on my weight. I don't mean to be ugly, but geez. He asked what I do other than work and told him I try to excercise, that I have done 4, 5Ks and a 15K and I going to do a 1/2 Marathon in January. Do you know what he said??? He told me I should forget about it. I should not run it because I am too large and it is bad on my knees. I should go to this gym here and have them do a Heart rate/Oxgen test and work up to walking 15, 20...min. I told him had no plans to RUN the 1/2 Marathon but I was going break it up with walking and running. He said walking is fine, but I should not run. It made me MAD!!! :furious: I will do what I please. I have been to the Ortho and am going to Physical Therapy to take care of any knee issues I have. I am working towards to losing weight. I do not need this to be his focus. He told me not to eat so much and not snack and lay off the sweets. It was very frustation. He does not know my history. I felt like I had to fight to talk and even express my issues and how my sister has some of the same ones. He barely even looked at the other test results and turned his nose up to them. He said Blood test is the only accurate one, not the Stool test. Susan said I should pretty much expect that reaction to the test. You would have thought he would have been a little more open-minded though.

Regardless of his personality and lack of people skills, he ordered blood test for my thyroid, celiac, genetic to test for celiac, liver function and hmm...I think that's is. I think one of those will also check for vitamin deficiency (the liver?) I am also going next week for an endoscopy next Wednesday. I should hopefully have the results next week except for the Celiac test. It has to go to California and can take 10 days.

I don't care for this doctor at all, but as long as he can look at the blood work and tell his professional opinion regarding the gluten then that's all that matters in the end.

So...there you have it.

Ok...enough about me... on to everyone else.

Amy...Yay for the jogging stroller. How cool that wheel in front locks. Yay for your garmin! I love mine. It's up to you if you want to use a Mat. If I do it on carpet in the Living Room, I do not worry with a mat.

Tracey...Tubing...Funny. I enjoyed that as a kid. I can't imagine doing it now! lol! Glad you guys had fun at the lake! Was that a sand shark? We catch those a lot down at Stacy. Jordan caught one this past weekend. He thought it was the coolest thing!

Deb...No Gluteny? Darn. I was hoping to hear how it was. I kinda have the same view point of the scale. I'm normally a daily weigher...

Lisa...yay for direct flight! Much less stressful in my book. I think your pace is awesome. I think I've said that before...but I just said it again. I hope you are able to get some of your weeds out. Matt's come the conclusion if want the get the grass out of some of bushes, we will have to take them complete out. Hopefully your weeding is less invasive. lol.

Mike...Thanks for the recipe. Aren't you smart for mixing the dry stuff a week in advance!

Panda... on the blender story!

Connie, Beth, AmyBeth, Jeane, Wendy, Vic... did I miss anyone???

Stacie: sorry you had an a$$hole for a doctor. I feel your pain and his comments make me so mad......can I go beat him up? Sometimes people that are normal weight erroneously think that heavy people are just lazy slobs that eat all day long and all they need to do to lose weight is stop putting the fork to one's mouth. Not true, and if he's any sort of an intelligent being, he should realize that. I'm so sorry you had to deal with someone like that, but hope getting back the results and getting some answers will make it all worth it.

Connie: I know I've missed some posts....what's a bodybugg?

Lisa: Team Ohana has lost quite a few members also. Most of them just stop posting without any notice and never come back. In the beginning I tried to actively reel them back to the challenge with PMs, etc. but now I just don't have the time or energy to devote to that. The next time I go to the spreadsheet I will count how many originals we still have. Are there any plans being made for TofT get-togethers? I was subscribed to the original thread, but if they started a new one, I am out of the loop. I haven't been to the main weekly thread or topic list in ages.

A big "hi" to everyone else!

Hi Everyone,

Tracey: Congrats on DH’s new job. I’m sure that will take a lot of stress out of your life. Nice going with losing 30 lbs and changing your life for the better in the last year. I love the shark picture. Your son’s expression is fantastic.

Amykab: I too am an Excel junkie. I wish I had more time to analyze my running data. My biggest problem is remembering to record it. That’s why I love my Garmin because it gives me the date and mileage and time so when I eventually get around to it I can write it down. I haven’t figured out yet how to get it directly from the Garmin to the computer. I really should just take a few minutes to figure it out. I’ve sweat all over the contacts on it for more than a year and even worn it in the rain and it’s been fine. I think I did read to be sure it’s dry before putting it on the charger. You don’t really need a mat for the pilates as long as you’re doing it on a carpet. I think for most of the exercises even a bare floor would be OK.

Dave: I love your question about comparing where we were last year to this year. I was just looking back recently because the 5K I ran this past weekend I also ran last year. I weigh 12 lbs less than a year ago and as you’ll see below I ran much faster for the race this year.

Stacie: I hope all goes well at the doctor and you can start to find some answers. Until then I do hope you’ll give yourself a break and not be too hard on yourself. Just be patient, and you’ll get back to having the energy for healthy stuff. OK, I started this post 6 hours ago and still haven’t finished it, but now I’ve read your horror story from the doctor. He’s a CREEP!! Use him for the information you need then find a real doctor. One who understands that you are a person, not a body. I’m so sorry you had to go thru that. DO NOT let him get you down.

Mike: Great job on losing 2 lbs on vacation. Congratulations on your duathlon results.

Connie: Sounds like you’ve got quite a few races planned. I hope it keeps you motivated. Great news about your increased metabolism.

Debra: I hope your funk is on the way out. Nice job in getting back to healthy eating. It’s interesting that you say you see yourself the same +/- the lbs. That would make it harder to put the breaks on when you start gaining. Good luck with the scale.

Lisa: I cannot even imagine that Super Goofs are dropping out because of anything lacking on your part. You are an amazing motivator. It may just be people being short on time. I know I am not participating much with my Hakuna Matata teammates (and not at all anymore on the weekly thread) just because of time constraints. Good luck rearranging your schedule to fit in all your kids’ activities this summer. It sure does make it more challenging. My DS6 is going to have to ride his bike around the track on Friday while I run my 8 mile LR because that’s the only way I can figure to do it.

All about me: My streak of counting WW pts and earning 4 activity pts per day ended at day 18. I woke up on Friday and just didn’t feel like doing it. It might have been OK had I at least eaten reasonably, but no that didn’t happen. One day off turned into 4 days in a row eating whatever I wanted to. This included a taste test between Yodels, Little Debbie Swiss Rolls and Ho Ho’s. My vote was for the Swiss Rolls, DH and DS chose the Ho Ho’s, Yodels just aren’t very good in comparison to the others. I’m really disappointed in myself. I was really doing very well and seeing results. It’s a shame that 4 days of indulging can erase 18 days of being very good. I’m back at it today, but I’m feeling like I’m being punished rather than treating my body to healthy choices. I think I need to figure out how to avoid the all or nothing mindset I seem to have.

I ran a 5K race this weekend. As I mentioned above to Dave, I ran this race last year. It’s the Sharon Timlin Memorial 5K in Hopkinton, MA. If you ever get a chance to run it, it’s a great family event. My DH and DS got autographs from some of the Red Sox and my son got his picture taken with the World Series Trophy. I finished in 24:04 (according to my Garmin) which is 2 ½ minutes faster than my time last year. It’s not a PR, but I was pretty happy with the results, although I would have been happier had I run 5 seconds faster. There was a stretch between 2.5 and 3 miles that I gave in a little to the tiredness. Usually during a race I can say I gave it my all, but I did ease up a bit so I’m a little disappointed about that. It must have been all the Swiss Rolls I was carrying on my thighs.

Yesterday I officially started my Marathon Training Plan for the marathon I am running in October. Right now I’m faking it and hope I start feeling the excitement soon. I think maybe I’ve found some of the funk that’s been going around.

That’s all for now.
Have a great day everyone,
Cindy

Lisa: Muttley! OMG! I'd totally forgotten about him. Hilarious. I much prefer direct flights, so the Jet Blue change sounds good to me (except for missing the LTT dinner). I hope it's good for your family, too. You're all going to NSSHP? First time or repeat offenders? It sounds like you're having/planning a couple of days of solid, back-to-back runs, even if the pace isn't what you'd like. Is it the pace that you're dissatisfied with, not entirely sure. How do you feel about your RW program overall? Good luck with the gardening; I hope it doesn't feel overwhelming, as I know how quickly weeds can take over. (Just reclaiming the land, that's all.)

Mike: And your shake IS yummylicious! Thanks for the additional suggestion for pre-mixing dry ingredients. I love labor-saving steps, but aren't always bright enough to see them without guidance.

Dave: Ah, like me, you're a creative cook in the kitchen! :rolleyes1 It's only recently that I've been allowed to play with sharp instruments. Something about my childhood fantasy of wanting to be a knife-thrower tends to cause concern...

Stacie: It sounds like the morning STARTED off good--you completed your C25K and had your "15 minute health breaks" epiphany. But a big boo, hiss, grrrr :furious: to your oh-so-knowledgeable doctor. Sounds like he's a real people person with active listening skills. I hope that you use him like a bad one-night stand: get what you need from him, and then lose his number. You can even send him a "break-up" text, saying you just weren't that into him. And you can tell him none of your girlfriends are, either.

Amyk: Busy, busy, busy, today AND on your trip. It sounds like your vacation will be lots of fun and very active. Good luck on your 5K, and I hope you take pictures of you in your patriotic outfit. Now, if you only had red hair...or blue, I'm not choosy. :rotfl2: I'm glad DH's interview went well, and here's hoping for positive news within the week. As for your Pilates tape, I think you should be able to do it without the mat until you get a chance to buy one. Just use a beach towel or blanket if you have any back issues like I have.

Connie: "the slump is slinking off into the darkness." :rotfl: I've seen the light, I've seen it. I'm walking towards it, it's like a tunnel of light...um, wait. Wrong light. But I'm working on a general lightness of being, with a little help from my friends. And WOW! It's got to be so cool to see the Bodybugg track the change in your calorie burn--what motivation. I'm glad you can also see the difference, which is more motivation yet. :woohoo:

Jeanne: And have we missed you, here and on the weekly thread! I think you do an awesome job with Ohana (and Lisa, with the Super Goofs)! :yay:

Cindy: Sorry to hear about your WW-point counting streak ending and the taste-test extravaganza (although my vote is for the Swiss Rolls). On the upside, your counting last over 4x longer than the non-counting days. It's not at all fair that the healthy eating seems to be overshadowed, but maybe getting back on point will show results sooner, as you've been following WW pretty faithfully. Your own version of the Disney bounceback, if you will. In better news, woo hoo on your 5K. 2 1/2 minutes faster than last year! That's over 45 seconds faster per mile!! :cool1: And you've started your October Marathon training; even if you're faking it now, I'm sure you'll feel it soon.
What's the marathon?

As for me: Today was XT this morning. DVD Pilates tonight. I think I'm off-my-intended schedule for June, so I really need to find a place in the apartment to put up my greaseboard. I'm the type of person who needs to have her plan staring at her in the face, giving her the stink eye if she doesn't follow through. When it's in my head, it's just too easy to ignore. (My brain has these internal, noise-cancellation headphones, I think.)

But for a little lightness today, I have to say how much I adore a fresh tomato salad. With onions, a little fresh mozzarella, and a drizzle of balsamic vinaigrette. It's one of my favorite summertime meals. And I pretty much love all meatless salads. Good for me, perfect in the heat, and just right for a light bite. Which got me to thinking: what are some of your favorite summertime meals?

Stacie, I'm sorry you ran into such an unfeeling Doctor. Please princesses don't buy into that shallow attitude. I have gotten to know a lot of you pretty well and I have a deep respect for each of you. It takes even more "courage to start" when you have further to go at the beginning. I'd like to see your Dr. keep up with Wendy or Jeanne, those ladies can move.

Debra I'm not allowed around tools either. I had a comander tell me once when I was in the Flight Sim field that I was the best supervisor and the worst technition in the squadron. See my guys worked really hard so I wouldn't come and help them. This was back when computers were tubes and gears. They could find be in the big main frame room by following the smoke.

Cindy Yay for being faster this year. Don't worry about a slip into the dark side of the snack world, it happens, so don't beat yourself up for it. Denise Austin one of the gurus of fitness says as long as you eat well 80% of the time you can be junk junkie 20% of the time.

Everyone have a super evening.

Happy Panda:hippie:

Stacie -- I echo everyone's sentiments on your MD experience. I was really heartbroken last year when my OB/GYN (that was the only MD I saw at the time) retired. He cared about me, listened when I talked, offered sound and reasonable advice, and generally left me feeling in control of my own health. You don't find guys like that every day. I'm seeing a PA now (after bouncing through 3-4 docs) because she shares my preference for lifestyle-change over better-living-thru-chemistry (which seems to be the mindset of so many MDs, especially for older folks like me).

Debra -- I love your advice to everyone -- it always makes me laugh and it's right on the money.

Lisa -- No, it isn't the captain. I have been a pretty lousy team member for my team as well -- but in reality, my training this year isn't much different than any other year. I tend to use the late winter and early spring to attend to all the things I ignore during the Fall/Winter months when I'm gearing up for Goofy. I think for most folks a year-long commitment to anything other than work and family is just tough to manage -- especially if it competes with other church or community activities. Yes, I know we all have the same number of hours in a day, but as you know with your own kidlets, sometimes it seems there are a lot of folks competing for a chunk of those hours.

Amykab -- Glad you're loving the Garmin. Funny, I drove myself crazy worrying about what it showed as my current pace. I should try just setting the beeper as you have. (V8 smack on the forehead!)

Cindy -- Debra's right -- Your overall record is quite good. Don't forget to give yourself credit. I have the same issue. My nutritionist advises scheduling a treat periodically (a small one daily or a larger one weekly) and really making an event of it and NOT feeling guilty about it. I have not been completely successful with that approach yet, but I feel it makes more sense for me than the all-or-nothing approach that has kept me fat all these years.

Connie -- You are definitely making me want a bodybugg. (You will not endear yourself to my husband doing things like that, as he is convinced I have too many cravings already. :rotfl: )

Jeanne -- "Cougars" -- I'm lovin' it!

As for me... Just did my 4 miles for today. :yay: Had to get up at 3AM to do it because the kids need to be dropped off at swim practice at 6AM and I need to go straight from there to work. That's our summer routine. We get sleepy very early here. :rotfl: Great news from my doctor's appointment -- down from 225 to 209 in 5 weeks (still need to lose more obviously), blood pressure dropped from 145/something to 120/something (bottom number has not been a problem so I ignore it) and I should hear about blood sugar and cholesterol by the end of the week. Gotta jump in the shower!

Sorry I didn't get to comment to everyone. I love you too! Thanks for the hat votes! ;)

Just a quickie fly by Lean Meaners. I am off for the day and I have so much to do!!! I know, who would ever believe that.....

Thanks for all the affirmation about it not being the captain causing the loss of participants. Funny, I do not look at it as interest or noninterest, I just figure I am out there anyway, I might as well log my miles here. We all have LTO issues and some weeks are high miles and others not so much but, I guess I worry that they are giving up all together and that breaks my heart. :worried:

Stacie: You are a better woman than I cuz I would have told the doc exactly what I thought of him. :furious: Um, yeah, in no uncertain terms. I have worked for a number of docs over the years and I am here to tell you that they are not all the same no matter what their specialty. They are there to help you not themselves and I think many have lost sight of that. It is all about the $$ now and not the patient care. Sorry you had that experience. I think I would look for another doc.

Mike: Thanks for the recipe. I misplaced mine, duh. I have to suggest maybe cutting up your banana and freezing it in serving size baggies with the strawberries just to save another step. ::yes::

Wendy: Up so early and moving already...you must be having a "me" moment... I hope your day continues on perfectly.

Everyone else, yeah, crunched for time. to the Lean Meaner nation.

From the Great North Woods, my run yesterday was much improved. I had 1 mile easy (goal 11 mpm), 2 miles at half marathon pace (goal 10:30 mpm) and 1 mile easy (11 mpm). My times were 10:50 mpm, 10:10 mpm, 10:15 mpm (hill disclaimer) and 10:30 mpm so yay:woohoo: :yay: :woohoo: . I guess I am a little faster than I was giving myself credit for. It was one of those runs where I could have continued on forever at about the 10:15 pace once I hit my first mile. Is that mojo I feel coming back, maybe, I am still remaining skeptical but :goodvibes . Today is a bike ride, groceries, kidlet camps, softball scrimmage, garden, and laundry. :scared1: Hence, the abbreviated posting.

Have an awesomely awesome day Lean Meaners!!! :cloud9:

Lisa, so glad to hear that your run was so satisfying. We need days like that to keep the love flowing. I have never figured out how to make them all like that though.

Wendy, glad your test results were good also.

I'm off to the gym to get the pudge rearranged.

Have a great day everyone.

Walking Panda:hippie:

Hey Leaner Meaners! How is everyone???

Jeanne A bodybugg is a pricey little item that is worn on the upper right arm. It actually measures your real calorie expenditure, no guessing. It also measures the number of steps you take in a day as well. When you plug it into your computer, you can use a program to list the things you have eaten during the day and get know exactly what your calorie deficit was for the day or your calorie surplus! In addition, it gives you a pie chart to show you the percentage of carbs, proteins, and fats you consumed. It has eating plans with recipes and workout plans with demos. You can plug in your weight and choose a plan that fits your lifestyle and what you wish to accomplish, as well as your measurements! It can show you how many calories you burn on average for every 6 minute interval! If a food that you eat isn't in the system, you can add it. If you want to know how many calories, fat, carbs, etc are in a dish you make, you plug in the ingredientst then the number of servings and it tells you! It's a truly amazing little marvel. I bought it because with training all the time and menopause, I couldn't figure out what my calorie expenditure was or should be! I have yet to see a weight loss model that takes menopause into account! So, this enquiring mind had to know. ::yes::

Stacie So sorry to hear about you experience with the doctor. I had a doctor like that one time, I was much younger. He decided that my problem wasn't physical it was mental because I was a single parent and prescribed Valium. I gave him back his prescription and told him he could take that crap, I had a life to live and then I refused to pay him. I figure a doctor is MY employee, if he treats me with disdain and scorn or just doesn't bother at all, he can be fired for insubordination -- You have come a long way! Hopefully, the tests will reveal something of value.

Lisa Oh I love those easy days!!! It is so much fun just to be moving! Although, I don't run, when I have those wonderful days I always see myself enjoying just moving like a colt out in the pasture just running for the pure joy of it. -- Like Jeanne, I used to spend time rounding up my players and asking them for their miles. I go tired of it. I decided that THEY signed up for the game and it was up to them to play or not play!

Wendy Great job on the blood pressure. There is a correlation between blood sugar and blood pressure. Big congrations on the weight loss! That's awesome. --Why not get your nutritionist or doctor to prescribe a bodybugg! That way hubby will dislike them instead of me!!! :duck:

Debra I have my dry erase board up, split in half with my workouts on top and my house cleaning schedule on the bottom! I like it staring me in the face, too! I don't always allow myself to look at it though. Funny, I can see exactly what I want too, and not see exactly what I don't want too. I think it's my contact lenses! Unfortunately, my noise cancelling brain phones, can block everything given time!!!!

Cindy All-or-nothing thinking is the hardest thing to overcome. But not to worry, you haven't undone everything. And if you look at the triggers and the causes you may be able to avoid that in the future. Do you ever watch the Biggest Loser? Even on the total immersion, weight loss camp, every week after weigh-in, they give the contestants free days to have something that isn't normally allowed...within reason. Perhaps, you could schedule a free day into your week and choose the food ahead of time that will be your indulgence and that way avoid the binge and the guilt. -- Sounds like you had a great 5K to me!! Way to go! -- Btw, planning is my strength! That's why I have so many races planned. Follow through isn't necessarily one of my best attributes! I have only registered for one of those races so far....and frankly that takes me clear into next year with spring races. But I sure want to do them! Since, the price diesel is going down, maybe they are looking a little more realistic!

As for me in the Great plains atop the Cap Rock (I like your great North Woods intro Lisa, so I adjusted it for me! Isn't that supposed to be the sincerest form of admiration???) I am having a rest day. I think I will do a short bike ride after I turn my lovely silver locks a brown reddish shade! See ya!

Love to everyone I missed!!! Make a healthy day, y'all!

Connie: thanks for the explanation. How does it know how many calories you REALLy burn? I have a weird metabolism. It is very sluggish. When we're all plugging away at spin class and the instructor says "You've now worked off a whole slice of cheesecake", I know that I've only worked off 2 bites! Can it really measure what I burn or do I have to multiply it by some factor?

Good Morning all!

Thanks for the empathy on the whole doctor thing! He was very judgmental. When I was telling him some of my sister's problems, he presumptuously said it was because of her weight. It made me so mad. He doesn't even know her or know her situation. :furious: grrrr. I just want to get this Endoscopy over with next week and be done with him.

Cindy...Sounds like your 5K race was awesome! You are speedy!!! Swiss Rolls are my fav too! I hope you get your mojo back and can find excitement in your training.

Lisa... on breaking up w/ the doctor! That really made me smile. Favorite summer time meals... hmmm... Stawberry margaritas! No, wait, that's not a meal. I love shrimp, with an ocean view of course!

Wendy...It is very hard to find a doctor that you truly like and feel comfortable with...Kinda the same w/ a hair stylist! :goodvibes Good for you for getting up at 3AM!!! WOW!!! :worship: Great news on your weight and blood pressure!!! Awesome!

Lisa...I was so shocked by this doctor I couldn't believe it. I'm a pretty timid, shy person most of the time, but have over the years learned to say my piece, as professionally possible. I was just to taken a back I couldn't put any thought together! Yay on your getting your mojo!!! Your times are awesome and to be able to say run at 10:15 pace forever...I can't even fathom. I'm so happy for you for doing great and enjoying your run!

Lisa...I tried that long twinge/short twinge thing you told us about, though my math was off last night. I did the sitting leg press machine. 200 lbs was about as much as I could do one time. I might could have done it once more, but didn't want to push it. Somehow in my head I came up 170lb is what I was supposed to do. :confused3 So that may completely mess up the formula, but for it's worth, I did it 40 times. It was a machine and I did it at a steady pace. Again, I probably could have gone a few more was getting pretty exhausted. If I need to go back and do 180lbs instead, just let me know and next time I'm there, I'll see what happens. I am a little sore today.

Everyone else...

So...In addition to my C25K yesterday morning, I also went to the gym (after meeting the IL's at the airport) and did a 30 min Step Class and 30 min aquacise class. Yay! I felt good, but tired after. I showered and went to straight to the meeting. Towards the end of the meeting, I started feeling really sick--nauseous. I thought it was because I was hungry and possibly dehydrated. As soon as it was over, I grabbed a hand full of Chex Mix to see if it would settle my stomach. Once I got home, I ate too many garlic knots and some lasagna. Initially I felt better, but it came back to visit me about mid-night. Lesson learned...Do not go from eating lunch at 1pm to eating dinner at 9pm. I still don't feel great today. I'm super tired and feeling pretty weak.

So...that's all for me. Hope everyone has a good day!

Stacie

Hi pretty princesses, Mike and Vic.

Awesome walk today. I was stiff and a little sore from so much sitting yesterday so first mile was an easy 14:00 to warm up. Then I shifted into Power Panda for the last 3 miles on the hills. Time for the 3 miles was 35:19, that was an 11:46 pace. Felt great and could have kept going.

Weights and calistetics for upper body and finished up with stretching.

One of the things I was especially happy about was that I can do calf raises again. For a very long time my left achillies has been to sore, but today it was ok as long as I didn't bounce into it to much.

That Bodybugg sounds interesting Connie. Erica just got a new Nike+ wristband and likes it real well.

Power Panda:hippie:

Jeanne The bugg actually measures your output. It uses sweat and body heat and a number of other factors to come up with your calorie burn. No calculating, at all. I have tested the bugg against my heart rate monitor that takes age, weight, resting heart rate, etc into account when calculating exercise calories, and it is in line with that. I have also measured it against my Garmin, for mileage/steps....again, it's dead on. So, I have every reason to believe the thing is accurate. Although, those two things work, they don't give you the total picture like the bodybugg does. Everything else, sleeping, typing (dis-ing), laundry, mowing, shoe polishing, cooking, etc calories are counted along with exercise. And with that knowledge, you have a more accurate picture.

A training schedule is so up and down, I couldn't decide how to make it work for me in the weight loss department, in a typical racing schedule, I would gain 10 lbs. Not what I wanted!!!! So, I bought the thing from 24 hour Fitness for about $250. I also got a watch that syncs with the bugg that will show the number of steps you walk all day as well as the calories you are burning for about $100. The watch isn't necessary, but I find it very useful when I am traveling and don't want to mess with a computer. I can easily count my own calories, or at least write down what I eat and check my watch to make sure I am doing well. The bugg maintains all the data for up to two weeks before it loses anything, so even when I travel I can keep an eye on the weight loss prize.

It's been a crazy, lazy day. DH finished one job and is starting the next one next week. Therefore, he has a few days off and that turns my schedule topsy-turvy.

Jeanne...what's the age you have to be to be a "cougar"?:tigger:

Debra...I'm so not Jillian, but a girl can dream! I love her arms and shoulders and she always has that, "I could kick your biscuits" stance.:lmao: No, absolutely no pictures of me tubing. At one point my DS8 lost his shorts down to his knees.:rotfl2: I learned a few years ago to always wear a 1-piece while doing water sports. I too, look at myself and see the same person and then I see pics!:faint: I'm with you on loving the tomato salad with a little basil added in and I love cucumber salad. Yum.

Lisa...:cool1: for getting your mojo back. The shark felt like sandpaper--I had to touch it as I thought it would feel slimy. I haven't joined a team just because I felt like it was one more thing for me to keep up with. I can tell that you're a super leader and encourager. I'm sure people are still working out, they're just not finding time to post. Great time on your run!

Dave...awesome blender story...I can see that happening around here.

Stacie....I think 15 min health breaks sound fantastic. Sorry for the Dr. visit and I love Deb's analogy of treating it like a 1-night stand!:rotfl: I'm impressed that you held it together, I would've cried. Hoping, that at least you'll get some good info from the bloodwork. The pier guys told my boys they were black-tip sharks.

AmyKab....Traveling with kiddos will be much easier than you think. However, you'll be traveling with 2x as much stuff. White water rafting sounds awesome and great news of you DH interview. Keep us posted.

Connie..:cool1: for being able to "see" a difference in your body.

Cindy...WooHoo for 12lbs lost this year and great time on your 5k. Yum, a taste test--I vote for the Swiss Rolls, but I really like the Oatmeal Pies.

Wendy...3am:scared1: :worship: Amazing! You pack alot into a day. Great news from the Dr.

 to everybody else.
I'm feeling like a slug today so I took a rest day. I'm going to take DS to Cross Country tomorrow and run on the track while they run the roads. That way I'll get it done in the morning. I'm trying to boost up my 5k time before I start training for the Jan 1/2. Oh, and we're headed to Dick's Sporting Goods tonight---gotta love that!

Good morning Lean Meaners. I have to get my post in early today because we have a department picnic at 11:30 today. I have a 1 hour drive each way and the picnic lasts for 2.5 hours. This is followed by a 1.5 hour staff meeting putting me home at 3:30 p.m. DD13 softball practice is at 4 p.m. Run....maybe not....dinner....on the run....time spent with office coworkers....BIG BUCKS!!! This is certainly not a priceless moment for me. Our department is HUGE and I only work with about 10 people with most of us at home. Good thing I am a social butterfly.....NOT....

Okay, on to leaner and meaner things:

Beth: We miss your wagon tips. I hope Orlando is awesome and that you did sneak in some WDW time.

Tracey: You touched it??? Eeew, icky, yuck, blech, blah. There I feel much better now. I am a pool girl for a reason!!

Cindy: As for the taste test, don't beat yourself up about it. I battle that downhill slide on a daily basis. I come home from my run and if I don't chose something nutritious and filling, I will munch on anything in sight. I do not keep sweets in the house but I over indulge on good things which is just as bad. Hang in there and bad days are just bad days. As long as you have more good than bad, I think it all balances out.

Connie: Still liking the sounds of this BodyBugg but I would really like a Garmin 405, and a new iPod so....hmmm.....:scratchin

Debra: I am still really liking the RW plan. I don't always hit my mileage but I like the set up of it. I tend to stay on the lower side (25 miles a week) but lately I have been missing a 4 or 5 mile run pretty consistently due to my scheduling. I figure 20 miles with a good 10-15 mile bike during the week is probably sufficient for a girl my size!!! ::yes:: Favorite summer food: Green beans fresh out of the garden and corn on the cob. We eat out of our garden all summer and lots of times, we eat just veggies with cottage cheese for our protein source!!

Stacie: I am an advocate for tell the doc what YOU want and then let them tell you how to achieve it. I have worked in the medical field way too long to not understand the standard 15 minute visit and lack of true medical attention you get in that said 15 minutes. Do not defend yourself to this doctor. He is not worth your time. You ARE healthy even if you are carrying extra weight and your problem has nothing to do with the fact that you are carrying that weight. You are there to find out if there is a medical reason that you have that weight, not how to cut back your portions and snacking. Heck, we already know that!!!! Next time, tell him that your personal trainer, dietitian and pilates instructor would like to talk to him (where is the enforcer smilie???). :rolleyes1 Oh, and a big ::yes:: :thumbsup2 for the 15 minute exercise breaks. Try some yoga poses, they really release the tension. I used to work at a place that allowed smokers 10 minutes every hour to go out and have a ciggy while the rest of us were working.

AmyKab: We could drive 2 days to Disney but, um, yeah, no thanks. We had a 10 hour ride when DS was 4 to Hanover, PA for YMCA gymnastics nationals. DD kept poking him when he was being soooooo good. Guess who got in trouble there???

Everyone else and the boys (Dave, Mike, Vic, Bill, et al): :flower3: I hope you are having a great week.

From the Great North Woods (Connie I like yours too!!), as I said before, I have a picnic to attend. I would rather work which is sad in itself. I have a good routine going right now and it really messes with that. If I worked, I could run, cook dinner before practice, get packed for the weekend of softball, etcetera but now, everything just gets put off which puts me in such a peachy (read snarky) mood so frak, frak and double frak (yep, that was Dick Dastardly just for all you Muttley fans). Tomorrow is another day. I will be absent all weekend....again....but still hoping to get my miles in somehow.

Later days Lean Meaners and everyone have a good one for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!

G'morning Lean Meaners!

LIsa I hope everything is going better than plannned! I dispise company functions, always have. I suspect I will not change anytime soon. They are NOT fun. Good luck.

Tracey Shark touching?? :faint: I have touched stingrays (swam with them too) and dolphins, but I have never wanted to touch a shark.

Stacie You are an athlete, athlete's need fuel no matter what weight they are! No more 8 hours between meals! Carry a meal bar with you or something. You are fine tuning your body, listen to it.

Everyone else I would be happy to prescribe a bodybugg for you!!! :rotfl2: I have really learned alot about me, since using it. I am fine tuning, too!

From The Great Plains atop the Cap Rock - Today is Pilates day. I am waiting on a phone call so that I can learn a new program. It has to do with the IT issues I recently had. I think it's always good to have at least 2 ways to accomplish something and given this is our income.........Off to do some Pilates!

Make a healthy day! -- Connie

Good morning Meaners! I am back!!!!! Did 'ya miss me????? :confused3

Alas, no time for DW on our Orlando trip. Nancy was ready with her AP, but we just didn't have the time to go. We felt that we should actually ATTEND the conference that we were at! :(

I started off eating ok, but that fell off around Monday. We did have some free meals, and I felt that I should save my money, and eat the free stuff! It included some pasta and bread.....so I sacrificed myself, and ate the carbs! :worried: I did enjoy it though!

I am back to it today with my breakfast and lunch packed. And I will weigh myself tomorrow.

I did really well getting to the gym while we were gone though. I worked out every day for an hour getting 16 miles in over the three days, and I got to my own gym last night too for 6 more miles on the elliptical.

I didn't read all the posts I missed, but I will.

Lisa: How is your life? Sorry to hear :listen: about the time needed to be spent with the co-workers. There is always something better to do, I know. Staff meetings can just be a b---- session, and accomplish nothing. But, I guess we all have to serve our time!

Debra: It seems like your in a funk. I am sorry to hear it. I know how it goes. I had my own little funk going on, but I think I am coming out of it! I hope you are too.

Everyone else......I will read the posts and refer to it for more in depth replies later!

Wagon tip of the day: Snack packing.......I did pack my snacks for my trip, and it really helped me out when at the airport, and in class sessions. When we pack our snacks, we are not at the mercy of the vending machine! And, we can watch our portion sizes!

Beth

Good morning, y'all.

Lisa & Connie....I know, icky shark, but with all these boys I find myself doing things that I never thought I would.:rotfl:

Lisa...Ew staff meetings, at least there's a picnic attached. And once again, you sure can pack alot into a day. You go, girl!

Connie....Have fun with the Pilates...I'm learning to really enjoy it.

Beth....Glad you're back, we missed ya'.

Everybody else...Have a great day. I think I'll be running on the treadmill today...the humidity here is outrageous.

Hey everyone! Hopefully everyone is having a good day!

I have been crazy busy with DD's bday yesterday and getting ready to leave for NC tomorrow. I am sorry to say I haven't done any sort of decent exercise since Monday. I knew it wouldn't happen tuesday and I was hopeful for yesterday, but I seem to have come down with whatever little cold DD has. I have a super sore throat. Ugh. I am hoping I don't end up with a head cold.

Eating and hydration have been ok though and I had another non scale victory when I went back to buy another pair of those jeans I posted about a couple weeks ago and was able to buy another size down. :woohoo: Probably vanity sizing, but I'll take it. Haven't been on the scale in a couple weeks since I never feel like I am NOT retaining water. Target had some nice running skirts on clearance, FYI. I have to return the one I got for another size, but I love it! no more shorts for me!

In honor of Delena's first bday...Here she is a year ago...and then last night!

After some discussion over the past couple days, DH decided to withdraw himself from consideration for the CO job. While he felt the interview went really well, the job itself would not be worth the family and financial sacrifices we would be making. We would potentially have to be apart for a month or 2 at a time initially and that's just not ok with us. We feel good about this decision and are making plans to put ourselves in a better position to relocate within the next couple years.

Sooooo..... that means that TOT will 99% for sure be a yes for me!! :woohoo: :cool1:

I'll catch up with everyone's posts later!

Have a good day!

Amy
