Becoming Lean, Mean, Endurace Event Machines in 2008

Good morning all! Hope you had a great weekend. We ran lots of errands and celebrated birthdays.
I got outside and ran my 3 miles on Saturday. It was slightly steamy so I did a 5/2 r/w combo. Those little walk breaks make a huge difference. I'm looking at different plans in preparing for the 1/2 in Jan. I'd love to run the whole thing, but I'm thinking more and more that the r/w combo may be for me.
We've been watching the Olympic Trials---my DS14 is hooked on watching the Track and Field events. The final 5000 trials are tonight and that is my DS event, so we'll be watching closely. Mike speaking of abs, the male swimmers have amazing abs!
Take care all and have a great day!:)

Major quick fly by everyone. Sorry but LTO/WTO and I am squeezed worse than usual. DD13 team came in 4th in States after landing in the loser-loser bracket right out of the gates. They played from 9:45 Saturday morning until 10:38 Saturday night under the lights. The next morning we were at the field for an 8 a.m. game. Unfair to say the least and the girls were too tired to even battle back. No shame in 4th.

I got in no exercise unless you count walking about 2/10 of a mile to the corner store a couple times to use the bathroom as the portapotty provided overfloweth (literally) :sad2: so, I am off schedule again. Unfortunately, or fortunately, I don't even have time to be snarky.

Lisa, sorry your day has been so challanging. It will get better.

Wendy we enjoyed your company at the LTT and riding all the rides with you at the MNSSHP last year.

Mike and Vic, we better not slack off the princesses will be leaving us in the dust.

Hi everyone:goodvibes

Wow, what happened to the Lean Mean thread? Is anyone out there in cyberland???? :surfweb:

I guess it is better this way as I am still sleepless in Maine, with my LTO issues following me around. Softball games tonight, one at 6 and one at 8 p.m. putting us home around 11 p.m. and me up at 4 a.m. for work that I missed on Sunday due to softball, again. Last night was field hockey scrimmages.

I did get my run in. While not stellar, I did get it done so that is an accomplishment in itself. My last half mile pace was 8:34 mpm proving the theory that thunder does induce speed. Not really an experiment I was conducting but one of those accidental conclusions. Like kites, keys and electricity, you know. Anyway, the entire run was a 10:55 average as my legs felt very heavy but it is another for the books and it is what it is. :confused3 Today is another 5 miles with 3 at my half marathon pace. This was a good run last week so we will keep the power of positive thinking going on. :woohoo:

So, what's up Lean Meaners....special Lean Mean party that I missed cuz of softball or what? You afraid I will eat the last piece of cake? Whatssup??????popcorn::

Hi Lisa!

No lean mean party, probably LTO in a lot of cases.

I'm heading out for an hour ride, then I have about 16 hours of work to plow through.

Ugh.

Mike

Good morning Lisa, well sweet princess you were gone doing stuff and we were little lost sheep without your leadership. Now you are back to guide us so everyone will wander back. Oh my we were so wicked while you were gone. I won't even mention what Jeanne did.

I was able to get Erica up for a second morning in a row. Maybe she is serious about her fitness this time. Of course being a pretty princess she expects to be pampered the rest of the day.;) Lunch and a movie are on tap for later today.

Mike we should have a thread, "The Quest for Abs".

Good morning everyone.

Dave/Mike: Good luck in the Quest for Abs movie trailer. When I was body building and dieting down for my competitions, my abs were the last thing to pop out. I lost fat everywhere but my abdomen and I was really worried. It seems that the more body fat you lose, you still do not get that 6 pack without cutting carbs and squeezing that last bit of water out of those muscles. DD13 is fortunate enough to use hers on a nearly daily basis with her sports and gymnastics. I have one of her strength sheets that I could post for you all to try. I give you a super big good luck on completing it, I stick with AmyBeth's pilates moves myself. :rolleyes1

On another side note: Dave, have you heard from Bill? I am kinda worried about him. :confused3

Bill stopped by the DisneyRunning.com walking section for a quick comment and slinked back off again. So he is still alive and kicking.

Hey Lean Meaners!

I'm sorry I've been MIA -- it is my busy season at work with a veangance, and I have 10 applications due by August 11th, so I am flat out most days at work. I've been trying to keep up on my Team thread, it's just hard when all my best DIS time is taken up! :lmao: Anyway, I will post much more when the rush is over. I do read and lurk, so I sort of keep up when I can...

I've been doing well with alternating 4 and 2 mile wogs each day. Actually, I do that for 5 days then take 2 off. It's not by design, it just seems to work out that way. I'll have to try to get to 6 days on and 1 off. See, I have a goal! :goodvibes

Ya'll sure are fussy about those abs. I'm sure they're in there, but I don't think I'll ever see them again. They're well hidden ;)

Dave -- It sounds like you are really enjoying your summer, and Erica is recovering and getting her strength back. So glad you guys are doing great! :cool1:

Mike -- I wish you the best of luck in your ab quest. If anyone can find them, it's you! :)

Lisa -- I get crazy getting one kid to his events, I find it amazing you and Tracey have any time for yourselves! I think you must be SuperMoms! :wizard:

Beth -- Hope dsis's ankle is ok, and I know what you mean about the food and workouts. I can do great with one, but putting them both together seems to be beyond my capacity...:confused3

Wendy, Vic, Bill, Tracey, Stacie, Connie, Debra, Jeanne & Lean Meaners Everywhere -- I'm thinking of you and wishing you awesome days! Enjoy the 4th of July!

Maria:surfweb:

Good morning Lean Meaners!

Hoping your Tuesday is going well.

No training to report for last night. I did get 3.5 in on Sunday.

Maria – Glad to see you. WTG with the training.

WWDave – Glad to hear you and Erica are getting out for your workouts. Sorry we won’t see you at MNSSHP this year.

Lisa – Glad to hear you were able to get a run in.

Tracey – WTG with the 3 miler over the weekend.

Mike – I have a great ab too, somewhere.

Wendy – WTG with the 10 miler!

Beth – WTG with the workout on Sunday. Jamie McMurray need glasses.

Connie – WTG with the 6 miler last week.

Debra – W’sup!?

Everyone that I missed – Keep up the great training!!

:)

Good afternoon Meaners. How is everyone today?

My weekend binge is over, thank goodness. I am back to it for the past 2 days. We have to start somewhere, right?

Debra: Miss ya! How's it going?

Lisa: Thank goodness you are here to hold things up! It seems that LTO for everyone! I am sorry to hear how busy you are, but good for you getting your run in! Way to go! :worship:

Maria: Hope you are over the work stuff soon! I have been a lurker lately too. :headache:

Big Vic: The race was a frustrating one, wasn't it? The rain-out put a damper on it for me.

WWDave: What movie are you seeing? I just saw Indy over the weekend, and I really liked it!

Missing the rest of you......Jeanne, Tracy, Stacie, Amy.....hope you all check in soon!

Lean Meaner Tip of the Day: Ziploc steamer bags. I know I have mentioned them before, but I am loving them! We got some fresh spinach at market the other day, I cleaned them and put them in a steamer bag for 3 minutes or so. Put a little butter flavor spray and salt after they cooked, and they ROCKED! So easy, and then you throw out the bag! Couldn't be easier clean up. Love them!

Beth

Hey y'all!:yay: :woohoo: :yay:
Life is busy, busy, busy around here! With the 4 kids around the house, it's hard to get anything done. I spent the morning doing laundry, using brown bananas to make bread, filling up the little kid pool, and doing lots of yard work. I should say I spent the morning AND afternoon doing all of that.:) I'm back on the WW wagon and writing down EVERYTHING! It makes me realize that I've been out of control. I've got 3 miles on the TM on tap for this evening, but after 5 hours digging in the heat...I'm pooped! Plus, I need to take DS out for a driving lesson tonight. Any words of wisdom from someone who's been there, done that?
I totally agree with Beth on the ziploc steamer bags, they're awesome.

Please know that I'm thinking about each and every one of you, there's just no time to reply. I called today to make reservations for marathon weekend (didn't make them yet), but where are each of you staying?
Take care and have a great day!

Hope you had a great TM run.

My advice on the driving lessons is only scream when its absolutely necessary. ;) :lmao:

If we can get a good AP rate we'll probably stay at POR. If not, POP or ASMU.

I found that it relaxed both me and my daughter by discussing that this was a new process and experience for both of us; and that I would do my best to remain calm, but she had to do her best to understand that I was learning too.

Also, lots of drinks afterwards helps...

Good morning Lean and Mean buds.

Beth we saw Wall-E, it was interesting. It wasn't one I would see again like Narnia or Indy or even Panda but it was worth the trip. The concept was thought provoking.

The gist of it is that the earth had become little more than a land fill with all the garbage we had generated and so poluted that it wouldn't sustain life. They left a bunch of robots to clean up the garbage and all the people had gone into space in a monster space ship.

The people were cared for hand and foot and had become so fat and out of shape that they could no longer get up off their motorized couches. I won't say any more about it in case anyone is going.

I had 2 days of LSD with Erica 8 miles on monday and 6 on tuesday. Now I'm back on my own till next monday.

Erica had to have new shoes since her surgery had given her a new gait and arches. We settled on Mizuno WaveRider 11s. She still needs more padding right now.

I have a deal with her that if she looses 23 lbs she gets a new Garmin 405. The new Nike+ wristband she bought has already stopped working. We do not recommend this toy, it's junk.

Have a great day y'all.

Good mornin'!:goodvibes

Thanks, Vic and Mike, for the advice. I took him out last night and realized that I need to get my "gasping" under control. He did a fine job. Unfortunately for him, we only have 2 big SUV's for him to learn on. Now we're looking for a little car, used, that's a little beat up, that way when he gets a ding in it I won't notice.:lmao: And I'm proud to say that I followed it up with an outdoor run of 3.6 miles(although, a drink would've been nice). I'm still trying to adjust to all this humidity. ICKY!:scared:
Have a great day everybody!

Just a quick drive-by to wish everyone a happy fourth. We are off for a few days of R&R and fishin'.....hmmm, maybe that was redundant! :thumbsup2

Make a healthy day! --Connie
