Becoming Lean, Mean, Endurace Event Machines in 2008

Wow, meaners, everyone is up and at'am this morning! Great way to start our Friday, isn't it?

I missed my run too Tracy! I had the plan to run during baseball practice last night, but the weather didn't cooperate with my plans, darnit! It was a terrible lightening, thunder and downpour. B-ball practice cancelled along with my plans to get in 5 miles.   I couldn't face my TM, so I did 45 min of stretching (my normal class routine) and then 45 min of Bender ball (core, buns and thigh workout). I am glad to get something done, but I missed my run. My plan was to get up this morning to run, but alas, I couldn't talk myself in to getting up (darn Olympics!). So, now I am faced with a full day and no more time to run....... I hate when LTO!

WWDave: Thanks for the thoughts! Yeah, the wagon tips are getting harder as the days pass......and some of them are quite lame.......but I am still trying hard to be motivated!

Lisa: Toe food????? So funny........why does he call it that? WTG with the consistent runs......I have a hard time with it. I slow down and speed up during my whole run. I would rather be consistent.....and not out of breath!

Jeff: Loved the pictures! You make me laugh!  Running with a computer bag......could be the next form of cross training! Good of you to get it to a police officer. To bad the computer wasn't in it too! (extra weight for X-training!!! )

Howard: You are the Lean Meaners front line man! Speedy times, and you can be there for hugs at the end of the race!

Wendy: Of course, this is the place for understanding all the milestone moments. I can think of many more to come for you! You are definitely on your way!

Connie: :wizard: :wizard: PD for the shoulder MRI. Hope that it doesn't mean surgery for you!

To the rest of the meaners........:cheer2: :cheer2: Have a great Friday!

Wagon Tip of the Day: Fiber (in Lisa's spirit). We all know the importance of fiber in the diet, but yes.......it can cause certain issues. Being on a low carb diet, I know all about those 'issues'. I have found water and good source of problem solving. But, magnesiusm also it a great way to 'move things on'. Adding some extra magnesiusm every day, helped me alot. I took it in supplement form. Once my system was used to the fiber, things evened out nicely.

Good morning, Friends!

Debra - I hope that nasty migraine is gone, now. I have them from-time-time. I drink a pot of coffee and take Excedrine and take a nap. I sleep when I hurt regardless of caffeine.

Lisa! Toe food! What a great description. You should be proud! :rotfl:

Tracey - Loved the knockers story. :lmao: When my DS was about 3, we were in a grocery store, he was watching a petite woman with her child who was about 6 mos old. In a very loud voice he annouced that "she's just a little mother, not a big mother like you!" I am 5'6" and only weighed 130 lbs at the time!

Wendy I am so proud of you for hitting one-derland. I know how you have struggle with this. How is everything else? Are the medical concerns improving?? Still sending PD to you!

Beth thanks for the well wishes. I could be really, really wrong about this, but I am afraid that surgery is coming my way. My doctor was telling me what the surgery would entail BEFORE he told me that I would need an MRI, next. And I already paid for fall races, too!:upsidedow

I have now had two cortisone shots in the shoulder joint and 2 weeks of prednisone. One of the side effects of both treatments is........drum roll......weight gain. Just what I need. I have gained 2 lbs and it's all in my belly. I guess I should be happy htat it's just 2 lbs!

I'm sorry I have missed so many. Jeff, Mike, Vic, Maria, Howard, Stacey (where are you?), Jeanne, everyone else, hope you are all on track and doing well. :cheer2:

Be healthy! - Connie

Hi Everyone!

I hope everyone is is having a fun weekend! We're still debating if we should go to WDW for the day or not. Tropical storm Fay is throwing everyone into an absolute frenzy down here. Current track has it hugging the FL gulf coast. We're feeling we should maybe go get some stuff at the store before it gets too nuts. I know we should already be prepared, but luckily we have had a few quiet years here, so you kind of get too relaxed about it.

W5D2 went well for me on Thursday. I did two 8.5 minute intervals and covered about .75 miles each time. This is the most distance I have ever covered with no walks at a decent pace (between 10-12 min/mile). I felt really good while doing it. :woohoo: I had a 5 minute walk break in between. I tried my exercise ball DVD yesterday for 30 minutes. I don't like it as much as the pilates (super annoying instructor), but they did show some good crunches to do with the ball that I think i will try to do every other day.

W5D3 on tap for me tomorrow. 20 minutes running, no stopping! :scared1: :scared1:

As of yesterday I'm still hanging on the that half pound. I am not surprised though, it's how my weight loss has gone for the last 6 months. Plateau, the all of a sudden drop 3-5 pounds. This cycle just keeps repeating.

Went for a girls night out last night with my BFF.:drinking1 :drinking1 :drinking1 We went to the local tap room that has over 40 beers on tap and a couple hundred in bottles. It is a beer snob's heaven :cloud9: :cloud9: . I tried some new beers so I was :) :) and have been chugging the water this morning.:drinking: :drinking: :drinking:

Connie PD :wizard: for your shoulder.

Debra Hope you are still feeling better!:goodvibes

Stacie Where are you?

:grouphug: for everyone!

Here I am...Sorry I've been MIA. My boss come back to work next week so I've been trying to make sure everything is in order... Last weekend was SUPER Busy! We had a 3 day religious convention and then Fri night we had company, Saturday night we had to go to a baby shower and then Sunday night my brother and few other folks were over until 12:30 am!!! It just wiped out! He is went back to Mexico on Monday and it was last chance to see him for a while so I had to take advantage, but I have been soo tired this week!

My workouts have been extremely lacking! ugh. We did take the bikes out yesterday for 8.4 miles. I got to try out my new Pearl Izumi bike shorts. :thumbsup2 But...HILLS!!! I swear, when you're driving you don't notice them, but get on a bike or go for a run and you feel them. I've never felt to out of shape in my life! They weren't big hills either. Our avg mph was 9.5. Can you get any slower??? Either I'm way out of shape or I don't know how to use my gears properly...It's probably both!

Since I am like a week behind in C25K...I've been thinking. My goal is not to run a 5K. Or even run for a 1/2 hr straight. My goal is to run/walk the Half Marathon. I'm wondering if I should ax the C25K for now and just pick up doing a 3/2 interval (since that where you start in the MfM Plan) in my weekly runs. That way I"m preparing my body for that interval when I start training with the hopes of moving to a 4/1 interval. THOUGHTS? I want to be able to set my Garmin to beep and I've figured out how to make it beep at 3 minutes, but I'm not sure if I can set it do the 3/2 beeping. Anyone know?

Has anyone tried and TRI shorts? REI had the Danksin ones on sale so I bought a pair...for my tri next May! lol! Actually I didn't think they would fit, but they do. Yay. I'm thinking since the padding is less in these I may use them for my shorter bike rides and maybe try them out in the running. They are cute--hibiscus' on the sides. I may go back and get a size smaller to hopefully fit in them next year for the TRI. They have matching tops...but there's not way I'm fitting in one of those. My tops a bit larger than my bottom. :sad2:

That's about all from me... I promise to try to catch up w/ everyone later. I missed so much!

I did hear...abs...mine are non-existent! :sad2: Debra, sorry to hear you have been sick...glad you are getting better though and Connie, I hope your shoulder heals quickly! Everyone else... A big ol

Stacie

Stacie You can do the 3/2 beeping. It is on the workout menu, under intervals. Choose the Time/Rest time option and program in the 3 minutes for the time and 2 minutes for the rest. I have the 205, (I think you have the 305) but it should be the same. My thoughts/hopes for the C25K is that by the time I am done with it, and jogging/running 25-30 minutes, that the first few weeks of 1/2 training might seem easier since I'd then be doing 3:2 r/w intervals. I don't know. :confused3 You have to do what seems right for you and aligns best with your goals.

Hi All! I'm still new-ish around here, so I'm just gonna jump in...

Howard - Congrats on your PR! :cheer2:

Debra - Happy Anniversary. :cool1: I hope the migraines are gone.

Wendy - Way to go! I'm so happy for you! :goodvibes

Lisa - Congrats on the bikini-wearing. :thumbsup2 I'm sure you looked great. I haven't worn a bikini in about 20 yrs, but I hope to...someday.

Tracey - No birds of prey around here. Our neighborhood just isn't as exciting as Maria's is. I did hear a coyote the other night though. :scared1:

Beth - I agree with your comment about breakfast. I can't function without it. Although I admit I need to make some better choices for breakfast. I've become addicted to the kids' Lucky Charms! :scared:

Jeanne - I hope you and Nancy have a great trip! I can't wait to hear the stories...;)

Dave - I just read your response to Debra where you described your workouts and all I can say is...wow! :worship:

Jeff - I can only imagine how weird it must have felt to be running with a laptop bag in hand. :rotfl:

Amy - A place with 40 beers on tap? :drinking1 That's my kind of place. I'm glad you had fun!

As for me, Dh & I were just discussing how we're going to improve our eating habits. Also, I'm adding another day of running to my schedule and I'm hoping to add in some yoga and pilates as well.

Looking forward to getting to know all of you better! :goodvibes

Welcome pretty princess, Julie. Can't have enouth princesses don't cha know.:)

Lisa...I went to the GOTR site and went under the "About Us" section and got to this page
http://www.girlsontherun.com/aboutus3.html
there is a place to find out about starting your own chapter and an email address to contact them. It is such a wonderful program and so very beneficial to girls. Good luck.

Thanks Tracey, I went to the site awhile ago and emailed but no one has contacted me back. Maybe I am just too rural???

LTO day today for me meaners. I am running on 2 nights of 5 hours sleep each, no workouts and facing no workout today too due to my having to interrupt my regular work day with DH work errands and DD13 preseason field hockey. My ILs stayed in NH last night so I have no support staff today. :sad2: WISH me luck getting in my 5 miles today!!

Have a great day meaners and, just for me, try to find some time for yourself today!!!!! :flower3:

Good morning, all.
I'm trying to adjust to this 6.5 hour sleeping thing. It's not working. I feel like this:scared:. I'm just one of those girls who needs a good 8 hours. I keep thinking that I'll go to bed earlier, but my little ones go to sleep at 9 and my oldest at 10 so I take an hour to straighten up the house, brush teeth, sign papers, and I'm asleep at 11. Then it's up at 5:30 to get DS ready for school. Ugh! I will adjust...I will adjust....I will adjust.:yay:

Jeff...gorgeous pics!
Beth....I'm with you, when I miss my run, I'm not a happy girl! Run on, girl!
Connie...kids crack me up and yet they can be so embarrassing.;) Ow, for the shots in the shoulder and :sad2: about the weight gain from the steroids, but it will go away quickly once those nasty things are out of your system. Sending you :pixiedust: for the pain.
Amy...Awesome job on the long intervals. Isn't it a great feeling when you do something that you've never done before? That is total "woman empowerment" for me!:cool1:
Stacie...I understand life takes over and those workouts get pushed aside. Great job on getting a bike ride in. While you were pedaling your bike lots of people were driving in their cars. No matter what your pace you were out there gettin' it done!
Julie....jump on in, the water's fine.:yay: My DH has started watching his weight and eating healthier again. It makes it so much easier to have a partner in crime;), oh, I mean in healthy living!
Lisa...I'll see if I can find out more info for you. I did notice that there is a chapter in Maine. I'm not sure how far it is from you. :pixiedust: for fitting everything in, I'm struggling with it, too.

Debra, Cindy, Wendy, Dave, Vic, Mike, Howard, Maria, and anyone I missed....Have a happy day!

I've been sticking to my newest plan and it seems to be working. :cheer2: I've got a long walk with the stroller and girlfriends scheduled for today. I'm also trying to get the Pilates standing work in. Stay strong, my friends!

Tracey, good luck getting adapted to your forced schedule. You might have to find time for a nap later in the day. I have had jobs that took to much of my "me" time and I eventually had to down size my hours to find me again. I'm glad I did but that isn't possible for everyone.

Lisa I hope your life gets back on an even keel soon also. You and Tracey are both being pulled from a lot of different directions. It's a wonder you pretty princesses haven't run screaming into the night.

My princess and I are off for a 10 to 12 miler in a few minutes. She will decide during the walk how far we go. Princess rules don't cha know.

Jeff I think I'll post pics of the junk cars in the back yard next to the trailer park so you can get a good idea what Kentucky is like.

Have a wonderfull day everyone and stay out of trouble.

Walking Panda:hippie:

Good Morning Lean Meaners!

Hope everyone's weekend was good! We did our errands on Saturday, which included picking up some storm supplies. We went to Clearwater beach yesterday for a little stroll and a late lunch. I had grilled cajun grouper. Yum! We decided not to go to Disney since I unfortunately have come down with yet another cold. yuck. So, I didn't get in my C25K this weekend. Hoping to feel good enough to get out there tonight, even if I do it a bit slower than I'd like. I did walk 1.5 miles on the beach yesterday.

Julie I totally :lovestruc  beer. It's definitely my major weakness! I have no problem giving up sweets and that sort of thing, but beer is another story. I know they have those shirts that say I run so I can eat, I would love one that says I run so I can drink!

Lisa :wizard: for getting in your run today! You sound super busy!

Jeff Pics are beautiful!

Everyone  and :grouphug:

Have a good Monday!

Good morning Meanies!!!! The weekend is over, and I am back to work ((((really missing my partner in crime PaDisneyFan!!)))))))She is the lucky one cruising around the Panama Canal. Work is never the same without her......hope she is having a wonderful time with our Jeanne! :cool1:

The weekend flew by......except my run on Sunday. I just couldn't get in any groove at all. I am tired, and my legs heavy, and I ended up walking the most of the 3 measley miles I was trying to get in. Sigh.....:confused3 ....I am discouraged with the effort. Not really anything hurting but the normal aches and pains......just really tired. I have a 1/2 marathon in 2 weeks, and I don't know if I can pull it off. :confused3 :confused3 :confused3

Amy: Be careful with the storm coming......we are thinking about you!

WWDave: Princesses rule all.......good thing to know! I'll have to let my dh know that!:rotfl2:

Jeff: Okay, now I am really jealous! The pics are beautiful!

Tracey: I am an 8 hour sleep girl myself......maybe more if I can! I always needed alot of sleep, and that hasn't changed......but the ability to get that sleep has!!!!!! My kids have put a crimp in that for many years now.....maybe when I am old??????

Lisa: Again........I am right there with you with the schedule! I hate it......running around trying to do too many things in not enough time.......Put a cold one in the fridge for later........a treat for yourself! After that, it might not hurt so much if you don't get your 5 miler in!:drinking1

Everyone else.......... Have a happy Monday! :dance3:

Beth

Good mroning, Meaners!

Tracey - Thanks for the well wishes. I am certain that everything will be okay, I just need to stop whining! I don't know what's come over me! -- Kids are hilarious. I have a granddaughter who can turn everything inside out, upside down and backwards, and yet....it works! For example: She was talking about a girl in her class whose mother is deaf. She explained that the girl had to use "Silent Language" to communicate with her mom! :rotfl: I am also an 8 hour girl. You know, women need more sleep than men.

Beth - I am sorry you had such a miserable run. As you go into taper, get more rest if you can. You might consider eating a couple extra servings of carbs, just until you get your MOJO back. Btw, just like you, I have to tell DOOC that I rule, for some reason he thinks he does!!! Sometimes, it's really hard work to let him think that!!! :rotfl2:

Amy and all other Floridians, be careful out there!

Julie- I can't recall where I saw it, but there is a shirt that says, "Will run for Beer!" I think it was available on www.onemoremilerunning.com. :confused3

Cybertwin - I am sending lots and lots of PD, and hoping that the world lets up on you very, very soon!

As for me, I am going to do an easy 2 miles on TM today. It's raining and we are under a flash flood watch. No point in going outside, I can't outrun water!

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

Here's to your health! -- Connie

Good Day you guys! How is everyone???

First off...HOWARD... I'm a little late to the party, but CONGRATS on your PR!!! That's fantastic!

Wenday...:cool1: for being in Onederland!!!! I know how exciting that is! Congrats!!!

Debra...I'm hoping you are now fully recovered from the migranes! and Anniversary presents...What did ya get? what did ya get??? hm???

Amy...Hope you are feeling a bit better. It looks like that storm may be heading up to NC too. We are supossed to go see Kenny Chensey on Friday night. I hope we don't get rained out! Yay for your TOT ressies!

Connie...How's your shoulder??? :wizard:

Lisa...I need 8-10 hrs of sleep myself. I hope your schedule gets better!

Julie...Welcome!

Dave, Mike, Vic, Jeff... a big ol

Beth, Tracy, Maria, Cindy... and for anyone I missed... :wave2:

For me... It was biking and swimming this weekend. I tried my new tri shorts yesterday on the bike. I like them! :thumbsup2 We got in just over 8 miles yesterday on the bikes. I swam on Saturday. I did about 1/3 of a mile in 30 min. I'm sure that's slow, but I'm not sure how slow! I'm pretty much slow at everything...running, walking, biking, swimming, but at least I'm trying.

Friday, We had our bikes at work so I rode up to bank at lunch. Yay me. It took me about a 1/2 hr to get there and back. I'm going to have to a mapmyrun.com to see how far it was. We also rode our bikes around Cary Friday night. I need to check my home computer, but I think it was close to 8 miles. The HILLS!!! I am so out of shape. There were a few times I had to stop. Going down them was fun, but going up...not so much! I was also able to contact a realtor at Atlantic Beach, NC. We are going to try to rent our timeshare for next Aug for a week. I tried last year, but ended up having to bank it. I think we may go to Vegas next summer. I hope to rent out next year though as I'd rather have the money than to try to bank it again... Cross your fingers for me! :goodvibes

Today...We were going to bring the bikes to Cary, but Matt was lazy and didn't put the carrier on the car so he said we would bike at home tonight. That's fine as it's more FLAT at home anyway! Tomorrow, I HOPE to get up early and get in my run. I am going to try the 3/2 Interval to see how it goes. I am going to try really hard to go to bed early tonight so I can get up tomorrow. The Olympics has been keeping me up late! :upsidedow

Has anyone noticed that the bottled drinks are getting larger? Remember when 16 oz was the norm, then it went to 21. Today I had to order lunch for a group and 24 oz bottles were provided! That's 3 servings... 300 cals!

All from me! Hope everyone had a good weekend!

Stacie

Hi everyone! Thanks for the PR congrats!
Friday was my rest day. Saturday and Sunday I spent volunteering at a summer camp for Special Olympics Delaware. I was a Camp Counselor (my second summer!) for 8 campers who mainly ranged in age from about 15 to 18. I had two genuinely nice Junior Counselors helping me out too. We had a great weekend. The campers left today after lunch. Unfortunately I had to leave last night after their dance at lights out. I didn't make it home and into bed until 1 AM. Ugh.

Today I was supposed to do XT. Since I missed mid-distance and long runs this weekend, I decided to run today. I managed 5 in the time I had allotted for it..... here are the results.

Miles: 5.04
Time: 45:30
Pace: 9:01

Splits:
9:47
9:00
8:52
8:53
8:36

Have a great night. Keep on training!

:grouphug:

Howard

Looks like I'm following Howard around tonight! lol!

Just wanted to post that DH and I just got back from our bike ride... 13 miles! We pulled a Debra, in that we went out and went further than planned! We headed off and were chased by dogs. We ended up coming home a different way which put us a little out of the way and in the dark. We had bright flashing LED lights on our bikes. Seems folks would slow way down until they could figure out what was heading their way. :thumbsup2 Don't plan to make riding in the dark a habit though.

Hope everyone has a good evening!

Stacie

Good morning leaner meaner nation!!! :goodvibes

Howard: Go Howard :cheer2: Go Howard :cheer2: Go, go, go Howard :cheer2: Yay for you and getting faster and faster (and leaner and meaner too). :cool2:

Stacie: WTG on the biking. New adventures are always fun!! And Kenny Chesney... how come I wasn't invited? We have a friend who knows Kenny from VI and we actually met him once. Super awesome person!!!

Connie: You keep all that PD for your little self!! :wizard: :wizard: You need it more than I do right now. My advise on the cortisone weight gain is just make sure you drink extra water. I find when I am on steroids (hey you thought I got those muscles by working out... lol) I can eat all the time so I drink extra water to fill my growly belly. Keep us updated on your progress. popcorn::

Beth: As tired as I am lately with all this running and running too, one cold one would put me out like a light!! School starts next Wednesday for us so one more week, one more week, oh and then field hockey and soccer start up!!!

Tracey: 6.5 hours of sleep!! :scared1: I'm only getting 5 lately and I have to say, I am there with you and Beth, 8 hours is where it's at. I fell asleep last night at 7 p.m. from absolute exhaustion. My DS6 sat on the couch and put a pillow in his lap and said "Mommy, lay down and take a nap" and he rubbed my head and put me to sleep (not that I really needed any help). So tonight, let's all get some zzzs!!!

Dave:

Debra: pixiedust: I hope you are feeling better and just trying to catch up on everything else in your life.

Everyone that I missed:  for everyone!!!

From the Great North Woods, I got 4 of my 5 miles in yesterday. I averaged at 10:09 mpm with each mile gaining in speed (11:10, 10:10, 9:50 and 9:30) so I felt pretty good about it. I decided during my run that I have to let go of my plan for this week and just do what I can do, quality over quantity is going to be my goal this week. I signed up for a local 5K on Saturday but we may be starting second crop hay (:crazy2: and I may be otherwise occupied. It is early though so I can hopefully get it in. I would really like to break that 30 minute mark officially!! Today is XT and tomorrow is my day off and the rescheduled LR. I will be back on Thursday to check on all that is lean and mean!!

On a side note, I had a coworker lose her husband this week. He was only 52 and had renal failure from diabetes. He had been on dialysis for 10 years. This is just sadness for me. Too young to die. Too young to not take care of yourself. So, get out there and exercise, eat right and hold onto the wagon everyone!!! :cloud9:
