Becoming Lean, Mean, Endurace Event Machines in 2008

Hi Everyone! Luckily I am still dry here in Palm Harbor, although judging by the radar, we will be getting some very wet weather this afternoon. Fay is a SLOW mover. I am feeling much better today.

I did get in W5D3 last night, 20 minutes, no walks. :cool1: :woohoo: I have to check my garmin friend but I think I did 1.6 ish miles during that time. The first 10 minutes were rough, but I really settled in after that. Total distance with warm up and long cool down was 2.4 ish miles in 35 minutes. Not sure what I'll do tonight. W6D1 is scheduled. I will probably try to do that to stay on track. It's shorter intervals again, so it shouldn't be too bad.

Lisa :woohoo: on getting your run in! :wizard: for getting to do your 5K in this coming weekend!

Stacie Great job on getting all the bike riding in! You are totally inspiring me to do some research into what bike I want to get!

Connie Silent Language?? Too Funny! :lmao: My little one isn't talking yet, but I know my niece and younger cousins have said some things that are so funny!

Beth :wizard: for getting back into the groove soon and training for your 1/2 marathon!

Tracey My 20 minute run last night was another first for me! i totally feel empowered after doing something like that! It's one of the best feelings ever. Especially when I think back to maybe 6 months ago where it would have been a struggle for me to run even 1 minute, let alone 20!!

Debra,Dave,Howard,Maria,Julie,Jeff,Vic,Cindy,Mike  and

Good morning, all.
Dave...you're so sweet.:lovestruc Change is change and I'll just have to adapt...it's just gonna take me a few weeks to adjust to the sleep issue.
Amy...awwww, beach walking sounds fabulous right now...I can almost hear the surf. You stay dry and safe, it sounds like this is a bad one. WTG :cheer2: on that 20min! That's awesome. I've realized that my first mile is always the hardest. Even when I'm super Gung-Ho to get out there, I'm always a little sluggy getting started. But, once I get to that one mile mark my energy and adreneline start kicking in. Now, that I know it, I realize that I really have to push to stick with it to get through that first mile.
Beth...Oh no!:scared1: Please don't tell me that I'll have to wait until I'm older to sleep.:lmao: Seriously, I really do tell myself, "You can sleep when you're older and you're gonna miss these days". That's my positive mental attitude kickin' in (at least that's what I'm trying to convince myself):rotfl2:
Connie...kids are awesome! Lots of rain in your neck of the woods, too? Isn't spring rainy season? Seems like the weather is all topsy-turvy.
Stacie...13 miles!! Woo-hoo:cheer2: . You are gettin' alot of miles in on those new bikes. And....Kenny Chesney...love him!
Howard...I would think volunteering for the Special Olympics would make for a very special weekend. What a great way to give back to the community.:)
Lisa...Run, girl, run. You are getting faster and faster. How sweet of your little guy to rub you to sleep. Boys are so considerate to their mommies. Oh, how sad about your coworker's hubby. So young.

Everybody else....  Happy Day:banana:

Yesterday, I went out with the girls (8 of us) for what ended up being a 5 mile walk with lots of hills. I wore my older shoes....big mistake....I have sore shins today. Poo! Then feeling like that wasn't quite enough, I ran 2 on the TM. I think I'm sticking with Pilates today to rest my shins.
My DS, DH, and I went to see the Dean Karnazes Marathon Man movie a couple of weeks ago. He mentions that when he was thirty he realized that if you sleep 8 hours a day, then by the time you're 90, you've slept for 30 years. He didn't want to spend that much time sleeping, so now he only sleeps 4 hours a night.:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: If I ever mention that I'm thinking of trying to do this, please someone come to MO and jackslap me!:lmao:
Have a strong one lean meaners!

Lisa:I have to say that the fear of diabetes actually lead me down the weight loss path. In my practice, I see SO MANY young diabetics, who are unhealthy, ill, and dying. So many don't think diabetes can kill you. They don't watch what the eat, they don't monitor their blood sugars, and slowly but surely they lose their kidney function, their eyesight, have numbness in their extremeties, etc...... It's a crying shame. For some reason diabetes doesn't get people's attention. Diabetes affects ALL of your body systems, and not in a good way. I have done everything I can to prevent adult onset Type II diabetes, and will continue to do so. I am so sorry to hear about your co-workers loss. Brings it all home doesn't it?

Tracey: Let's just hope that there will be sleep soon! I actually got close to 8 hours last night because I fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow! ((((dh hates that!)))))

Stacie:Way to go with the bike workouts! Nice change of pace, isn't it? Keep it up, and the speed will come soon after!

Howard:So nice to hear that your weekend was enjoyable. Volunteering is always on my mind, but it never seems to work out that I can get it done! I am glad to hear that you enjoyed it, and thank you for sharing it with us!

Amy:Hope you don't get to wet! Does seem that this storm is a very SLOW mover.........Let's hope she moves on quicker than it's been!

Debra:Where are you???????? We are missing you again!

Big shout out to everyone else......WWDave, Big Vic, Connie, Jeanne, Wendy, and everyone else! Hope things are looking good for all of you!

Wagon Tip of the Day: Simple sugars, and refined carbs. Let's check our labels and eliminate them! Get your carbs the good way! The way to go is complex carbs!!!! They are slower to metabolize in our system, and keeps us from having the sugar spikes in our blood. Prevents the highs and lows. Blood sugar surges is what makes us hungry and out of control with our eating.

Beth

OK, traveling should be done for the next 20 days or so, which means I can get back on my lean mean streak.

I was a COMPLETE worthless slug since the sprint tri (pics link below)

http://www.brightroom.com/estf.asp?EVENTID=38005&PWD=&BIB=609

While I'm not particularly ripped, its kinda nice to come in ahead of the no body fat shirtless dude in the pic. :lmao:

and just got back into the swing this AM with a 5 mile, 45 minute run.

I'm not going to try to catch up with everyone, but I have missed your daily inspirations, and look forward to getting back to consistency with eating and exercising.

One thing I miss about triathlon training is that I don't get to spend time on my Madone 5.2 anymore :sad1:

Mike

Good Morning all!

Lisa...You met Kenny Chesney! :faint: !!! So sorry to hear about your co-workers DH! So sad. I hope you are able to get that 5K in this weekend!

Mike...I'm supposed to be Half training, but seems I'm spending more time on my bike than on my runs!

Tracey...5 mile, then another 2! You go girl! Good plan to stick w/ the Pilates today to help your shins out!

Amy...Way to go on the 20 min run! I remember when I did that one time! lol! It feels like such a huge accomplishment. Way to go! :cheer2:

Shout out to all the other Lean Meaners!!!

I couldn't get out of bed this morning, so here I am...again...trying to get my workout in after work today! :sad2: Wish me luck!

Stacie

Mike that was me behind you!

Good morning y'all.

Have to take Erica to the dentist for a deep cleaning today. She will be sadated so I'm not sure what the rest of the day has in store for us.

Have an awesome day my friends.

Leaner Panda:hippie:

Dave: :wizard: and  to Erica today.

Stacie: Yes, I met him. My DD comment was she thought she would wet her pants. :lmao: Very down to earth, very nice and not scary star-like at all. Drank a margarita and acted just like I knew him all my life. Okay, chugged a margarita cuz I was so nervous I almost wet my pants too. :rolleyes1

Mike: Where is the screaming Jonas Brothers fan smilie when we need one? You look great, look like you feel great and hey, you are floating on air in one of those pics!!! :thumbsup2

Beth: My DH has an uncle (all 402 pounds of him) with diabetes who thought that it would just kill him. Now he is on dialysis, lost 4 toes on one foot, up to the knee on the other foot and soon to need more amputation on the missing toe foot. It is disgusting. Piece by piece when they wish it would be all at once. :sad2:

Hey Lean Mean Brigade!

I hope everyone is doing well, and having a good week! I have not been keeping up like I should, and I apologize. Things are just totally crazy here. Come September, it will all be back on track.

Stacie -- I couldn't get out of bed this morning, either! Just before 5:30, dh rolled over and kicked the top of my foot really hard. I think he thought he was moving the cat, but it was me! I did not feel like moving my foot after that....:headache: I guess I'd better get myself out of bed a little quicker!

Mike -- up and at'em with a great 5 miler! I should follow your example! :cool1:

Beth -- I remember sleep :cloud9: ...ds was out of sorts after being gone to his grandparents camp from Fri - Mon, and he wasn't feeling well. Poor thing had allergies and histamines just going crazy in his body. So, I was up later and more often than I would like. He just couldn't rest and of course only Mom can make it better. I gave him Benadryl which did help, but he was in Lisa's deep woods and it took him awhile to get it all out of his system. He seems to be better this am.

Tracey -- What a great get-together! I wish I could get my friends to go out for a 5-miler! I'm lucky if I can get them to walk from one pavilion to another on the beach. :rolleyes1 It is so hard to settle in to the beginning of the school year. We don't have to start until after Labor Day, but that doesn't make it any easier. We just have longer to think about it. :teacher:

AmyK -- Please stay safe! I have been thinking about you and Flo, and hoping you would not be affected. I hope dd is starting to feel better. She has been through alot in a short time for such a little person.

Lisa -- How sad is it when our little ones are putting us to bed?! This happens to me on a regular basis on Friday nights. I just collapse and ds wakes me up when the cartoons are over...:happytv: I am so sorry to hear about your co-workers loss. That is indeed much too young.

Jeff -- Fantastic photos. Just keep 'em coming, we need inspiration! :thumbsup2

Howard -- You are the man with the new PR! :woohoo: Your volunteer work sounds so rewarding, I'm glad you were able to do it. :flower3:

Connie -- If anyone could outrun water, it's you! I think you would tell it to veer off and it would! ;)

Dave -- Now, I have been to Kentucky and it isn't one big junkyard! You have some lovely areas, and some nice urban ones, too. :) Just no beach...

Vic, Wendy, Cindy, Debra, Bill, Julie -- I promise not to scare anyone else away with my wildlife stories. I guess the paralyzed squirrel and the daylight oppossum will have to remain a mystery! :rotfl:

Have a great week, Meaners! I will lurk and chat as I can!

Maria :cool2:

Stacie, Mike, Beth, Tracey, AmyK, Lisa, Howard, Connie, Dave, Vic, Wendy, Cindy, Debra, Bill, Julie , Maria, and the rest of Team Lean Mean Running & Walking Machines...

Have a great day all. Hope everyone is getting in their repetitions, and training safely in their comfort zone. Listen to your body, it tells you when you've either had enough, or needs more. Never overtrain, it just sets you back.

Hi eveyone, just a quick drive-by for now,

I am taking Jeff's advice about listening to their bodies.....

The doctor gave me a choice today. I could take prednisone and not use my arm and do ice packs every few hours and I would have the slimmest of chance to affect healing in my shoulder or I could see an orthopedist for surgery. I am seeing an orthopedist! :thumbsup2

Well I went through my clothes and I have 6 pair of jeans that fit wonderfully and 4 pair of Dockers that fit ok. Bad news is I bought a lot of designer pants that are way to big now. The designer stuff was when Dillards had 75% off and 40% off that. Well I need that sale again since I have no cargo pants that fit now and few work (black dress) pants. I have a bunch of never worn 34 waist 30 length that fall off me now. Lots of size large shirts that don't fit now either.

Now I just need to stay this size. Erica is working on getting her sweet self out of her whole wardrobe also.

She and I are doing very well with the healthy eating. For dinner tonight we had green beans and potatoes boiled. A salad of cucumbers and tomatoes and then cantalope. For lunch it was veggie omlet with no cheese or holinday sauce and grilled potatoes with onions. Breakfast of course was cherrios with skim milk and a banana.

We have been eating mostly fresh food that we prepare or frozen veggies. I have been eating my fresh frozen fish and canned tuna. At the mall for lunch I usually get fresh made chicken fajitas at this Bosnian owned Mexican place they put in. If you get it without the cheese and the sour cream it's very good. Grilled veggies and chicken with rice and beans. That has become my regular work lunch.

Maria, I know that Kentucky has some pretty areas but we need an ocean or some mountians really bad.

Connie, hope your shoulder repair is soon and you heal quickly.

Have a restfull evening y'all.

Resting Panda:hippie:

Good evening Leaner Meaners!

Hoping everyone is have a great week.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I'm still around. We're keeping an eye on TS Fay. She should be in our area on Sunday. Hopefully it will be just a rain maker. We could use it.

Got 5 miles in on Sunday, an upper body workout yesterday and 3.5 miles today.

Everyone - Keep up the great training!

Maria - I'm off to read your wildlife stories. :rolleyes1 :rotfl:

Y'all take care.

:)

Thanks for all the kind words about my volunteering for Special Olympics Delaware. We (as a family) love and support the mission and people of the organization. It was very rewarding to be there. I will definitely volunteer there next year and I hope to get Cam involved as a Counselor too.

:grouphug:

Howard

OK...I'm back to following Howard around againg tonight and posting my workout. Howard...no offense, but I'm not loving posting right behind you...You are so speedy!!! :goodvibes

I couldn't get up this morning, but I did convince myself to get out there tonight...finally...9:30 pm! I did my first 3/2 R/W interval for 30 min tonight. I made it!!! I'm the slow turtle of the group...I pray this slow and steady will make it 13.1 miles for Donald! I got in 3 miles...47 minutes. The last 12 min was a pretty slow cool down jammin to Kenny Chesney!

Lisa...I need more details! Where did you have Margaritas w/ KC??? Think you can hook me up? ;)

Dave...Great news on the new wardrobe! It always exciting, though it can get expensive, to get new clothes! I hope Erica's dent appt went well!

Vic...Glad you are still alive and well!

Jeff...Thanks for the link! All of my races w/ the Champion Chip I own are listed! :thumbsup2 How cool is that!

Howard...Your times are looking good! Way to go! Tell Cam hello for me and to check in some time. I miss her updates in her journal!

Ok...That's all from me. I'm off to shower and go to bed now...I'm a little stinky! :goodvibes

All about me, :lmao:

It was a good run up and around Diamondhead crater. No laptop bags to tote this time.

Time for some ice cream!

HI EVERYBODY!

Mornin' Lean Meaners.
Mike...nice pics and WTG finishing in front of shirtless guy!
Stacie...I was originally writing, "Get outta bed, sleepy head" and then I saw that you got your workout in at 9:30, so now I say :worship: . You go, girl. That's dedication! Slow, steady, and strong will get you to the end---sounds like those intervals are the plan for you.
Panda....:lovestruc clothes shopping! Dillard's has the best end of the season sales. The summer sales should be starting up soon. Congrats on needing new pants.
Lisa...Kenny Chesney:love: I also love Toby Keith:love: He has a little more meat on him (oh no! shame on y'all!). Anyway, margaritas with Kenny...you lucky dog!
Maria....allergies are horrible and it's the same around here--"only mom can make it better". Don't leave us hanging---what's with the paralyzed squirrel?
Jeff....hey there
Connie...:pixiedust: for the ortho.
Vic....stay safe
Howard....I keep saying it, but you boys are speedy!
Everybody else....

Yesterday, I stuck with the Pilates and stayed off the shins until my DS10 issued a challenge to race him around the neighborhood (it's .6 miles). This was after he said, "I hate running" and I told him that he's not allowed to say it. They are able to run cross country this year and his older brother and I are encouraging him to try it out. So we have him running the .6 loop every evening and will gradually build him up to the full mile. I explained that there are some days when I think I hate it, but when I think that, then it only makes me feel worse. We're trying to focus on the positive;) .;) So, of course, he said, "Well then, you should run it with me." Surly boy! So, I did! Of course, he beat me by 1 second.;) Then my oldest who has a core of steel, led us through his "core workout" Oh my gosh! Talk about, "no pain, no gain". I found abs that I never knew I had. Today is 7 miles for me.

Have a great day, all!

Hi Lean Meaners,

Well, we pretty much stayed dry yesterday, just some wind. Fay is one weird storm though, they are predicting it to come back across the state this weekend! she'll probably cancel our WDW plans for this weekend for us!

I did get in W6D1 last night on the TM. It went well, although I actually think I felt better the day before running for 20 minutes straight, compared to the intervals I did last night. :confused3 Pilates and a walk with DD in her new wagon tonight!

DD is back to her usual self! We do have an appointment at the urologist on Monday to see what we'll have to do about her kidney reflux. I forgot to mention that she took a couple of steps over the weekend! I think we'll have a walker before we go to the beach in a few weeks.

Connie pixiedust: for your shoulder and orthopedist appointment!

Dave :woohoo: on having clothes that are too big! IMO, a great problem to have!

Stacie:woohoo: on getting your run in!

Everyone  and

Have a good wednesday!

Wednesday already???? This work business has kept me busy! I do miss my pal, Nancy, though. Work is never the same without her.:sad1: :sad2: :sad1:

Amy: Glad to hear that you stayed pretty dry yesterday, but boo to Fay coming back around. Why can't she just leave now? Hope things stay safe for you.

Debra: Okay, girl, where are you? You worry me when you are missing!

Stacie: Yeah for getting out there for your miles last night. I do hate when my workouts have to be at night.....hard for me to go to sleep once I am all keyed up. I hate when LTO! Guess what? I tried to get up to run 3 days in a row, and haven't done it yet! I am lucky, I still got my time in later in the evening, but it's so much nicer to get it done in the morning!

Jeff: Good work out! All of you speedy guys are making me jealous! :headache:

WWDave: Yeah for the new sizes, but I hate when I have great clothes that don't fit......there is always good with the bad, huh? Soon enough, it will be Erica needing new clothes! You both are doing marvelous on the healthy wagon!!!!!

Maria: What squirrel?

Wendy: If you are lurking.....how's it going in one-derland?

Wagon Tip of the Day:I know it's been done ((((and over-done))))) but we are now discussing hydration.......I think it played a bigger part in my bad run on Sunday than I thought. Last night I had a great 5 miler......felt good! What was different than Sunday???? I drank plenty of water yesterday at work. Sunday, I didn't. Could it be that simple? Maybe.......I am never quite sure, but I am going with it today! I am drinking my water again! We will see what happens!

Beth

Good morning guys.

I hate to be a broken record but I'm having an awesome day. Ever have one of those days that you just can't run out of energy? I did a 4 mile walk on the treadmill:

Mile one 15:00 mpm
Mile two 13:20 mpm
Mile three 12:00 mpm
Mile four 10:54 mpm

Then a half hour of weights, some stretching and finally a half hour of pool running with high knee lift. I still feel like I haven't done anything and tons of energy left. Which is good because I have to work today.

Tracey I hope they have the clearance for summer soon, I need work clothes. I do have plenty of workout stuff though. Erica is starting to whine about hers being to big.:) So I guess I will have to let her shop soon, but darn she has expensive taste. Living with a princess.:upsidedow

Have a great day everyone.

Walking Panda:hippie:
