Ok so I have a few beanie babies in the closet....well 300 or so  . Since the beanie babie market is dead what do you think I should do? I do plan on having kids within the next 5 years. So I could save them which I think would be kinda cool for them to have. Or, should I just sell them at a yard sale for $1-2 a piece and free up my closet? This makes me wonder what I've got in the attic..... Plus, I am going to move by June 2007(yay North carolina) keep or toss keep or toss? I love the little guys!

Dust collectors. Free you space and mind. It will take 500 years for them to truly be worth anything. Sell. Ebay the lot baby. Way quicker than yard sale. Thats what I would do, but ofcourse I am a minimalist and can not stand to have things around me that don't have a purpose. You could keep them for kids...but they will just pull the tags off and drool on them.

Save them a bit longer until you are absolutely positive that you don't want them anymore. Or, pick out say 50 of your favorites (let's face it, some beenie babies just weren't cute;o) and get rid of the rest.

I've learned my lesson about getting rid of stuff to make room for more stuff. Nine times out of ten, I'm usually sorry I dumped my cool stuff;)

I also say donate them.......but to a local Children's Hospital. The beanie babies would really lighten up those days for the kids in the hospital, esp those with life-threatening diseases.

I doubt you would get even $1 for them at a yard sale! I would save them for your future kids. So what if they drool all over them. Just toss them out then. The kids will love them when they are young! Then they will grow into Teens who think they are stupid! :teeth: I also have tons...mega tons of them! I will never part with them! DH and I have too many memories in how we found each and every one of them!

Take pictures of them and you'll still have the memories. Donate the beanies.

Call first though. My hopsital doesn't take used toys/stuffed animals.

You'll be lucky to get a quarter out of them in a garage sale. The market is just over saturated!!

Has anyone donated them to local fire or police stations? I was thinking about calling to see if they would take mine to use when they go on calls and little kids are involved. I am glad that you posted this because I had forgot about calling.

I have a similar problem. I too have hundreds stored in my garage. When I bought them I didn't have a child. Now I have a 7 y/o girl who loves stuffed animals. First she liked the bears, now she doesn't like the bears and likes the others (mostly cats and dogs). Occasionally I go out to the garage and get a few to give her. And, unfortunately, I still buy the new ones. Never more than 1, and only the ones she wants to play with. I give her a few for special occasions, and of course, I always have gifts ready to give to other children.

At some point, I'll have to do something with the rest. I'll most likely donate them. I know they're not worth much $$ anymore, but it sure was fun collecting them, while it lasted. :goodvibes

Hospital can't accept used plush toys (even if you didn't play with them)
Germ issues...sick kids are too vulnerable.

Donate them to some organization: the battered women's shelter or the homeless shelter, perhaps. The tax donation would be much more than what you'd make at a garage sale, or even on ebay.

It's too bad that the childrens hospital won't take them . I hadn't even thought about donating to them-It would've been a wonderful idea. I think I'll just pick out my favorites and then donate the rest to a shelter. Might as well get some clothing I don't wear together for them.

Maybe you can find a girl scout troop who can do a service project with them. Our cadettes have 45 backpacks and are collecting childrens books and stuffed animals and journal and pen and pencils and are making small blankets and hats to give the police station , It is for when they have to go pull a child out of a house to put in foster care , They will have something they can call their own.You can also check a children orphanage, they would love to take them.

Keep the ones you truly love for your child, and donate the rest. You can hardly give them away at a garage sale or on eBay. Toys For Tots drives will be starting soon - I'd give them the beanies!

Generally you cannot judge old toys for antique value until after fifty years have passed. In the case of Beanie Babies, only the ones not given to children to play with have the chance of becoming valuable.

You might hang onto almost all of them and after your kids move into their first homes, give each kid a selection of Beanie Babies as collectibles.

I kept the bears. DD kept the dogs and cats. We sold a lot at my garage sale for $2.00. I seriously doubt they will be worth anything in the future. I would save your favorites and sell what you can, then donate the rest. Our Children's hospital has tons of new toys (lots of Build A Bears donated by GS troops) and won't even take old ones.

If you wanted to donate to the hospital, police station, battered women's shelter, you could call to make sure. The reason I said the children's hospital is because my dd was a cancer patient at Rainbow Babies and Children's hospital in Cleveland and I know they accept donations even of used stuffed animals. They do sanitize them before giving them to the children. The police stations sometimes take along stuffed animals when going on calls that involve children, esp. domestic violence. We also have a battered women's center that accepts donations of clothing, stuffed animals and pretty much anything to help get the women back on their feet.
