Beaches and Cream - why all the fuss?

Hi everyone,

We just returned from a terrific stay at the Beach Club Villas. It was our first time at Beach Club, and we enjoyed it. But there is one thing I just can't understand -- why does everyone make a fuss about Beaches and Cream?

We went there more than once. They have a grand total of 4 (FOUR!!!) flavors of ice cream: Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry, Mint Chocolate Chip (green). 4. It's Edy's. You can buy it in the supermarket. Why? You can go to the candy store at the Boardwalk and find at least 8 flavors, maybe more.

Kitchen sink? It's the four flavors with other things thrown in, with lots of whipped cream, served in a big bowl. Sandwiches are ordinary. If you are at your hotel, need a quick bite to eat and it's convenient, I understand. But why in the world would you wait 45 minutes to an hour to eat here? I constantly read about people who trek here from Epcot to eat. Why would you do that when you have such variety in Epcot?

We generally had great meals everywhere, including the Cape May Cafe. But I just don't understand the fuss over this very ordinary little sandwich/ice cream shop with a limited menu.

My advice is don't make a special trip. It's over-rated. JMHO.:wizard:

Funny, my sil just returned and basically had the same opinion. She wasnt impressed with the ice cream at all. I dont think she ate a meal there, just ice cream.

I went there during my 1st Disney trip about 5 years ago after seeing the "kitchen sink" featured on the food channel. I thought it was a pretty neat place. We ordered the "kitchen sink" and took some pictures of all of us eating it.We didn't order food other than the ice cream.
I also enjoyed visiting the resort, which I would never have visited otherwise. I remember the pool area being absolutley amazing. I would say if you've never been there it is worth checking out once. If you are just going there for food, probably not worth it.

This is so funny b/c there have been several DIS favorites that I thought were just "eh" (french toast loaf, dole whips, bread pudding at O'hana - although my DH likes that one).

I made a special trip to B & C on one of our trips. I thought the burgers were pretty good. I think I had onion rings, which were good. I had a chocolate coke, which I already knew I liked. When it came time for desert, I was pretty hopeful. I only had a couple of bites. The ice cream tasted almost like ice milk and the toppings weren't really anything special. I was full enough that I just decided to leave it. What a waste, but at least I saved some calories! lol If it really is Edy's ice cream, I don't really care for that brand anyway, so that could explain it.

Just goes to show, everyone's tastes are different. Oh, and I have no plans to go back. I tried it, and now I know.

We enjoy beaches and cream. We have done the kitchen sink and I think that is done more for the experience than how good it tastes. But we like the food and the atmosphere is neat. I really like it and we always stay at the beach club so its right there. Just my thoughts.

We typically stay at the BCV for our October trips and having our first lunch at Beaches & Cream is a vacation tradition for us. The burgers are never going to qualify as best ever but they hit the spot and we love sharing the No Way Jose for dessert ... mmmmmm, peanut butter and chocolate ... what's not to like?

The No Way Jose....that's what Im talking about!! I can't wait. And I don't care if they only have one flavor of ice cream, as long as its chocolate, with tons of hot fudge and peanut butter draped all over it......ahhhhh....Yes, I'll be going for sure. Looking forward to it:)

I really loved the No Way Jose. The other food there was nothing special.
I am sad that you can no longer get a No Way Jose to go. :( Not sure I would wait in a long line just for ice cream.

Thank You! I had no idea. I thought it had it's own ice cream and a variety of flavors. I was actually going to go out of my way to try it. I'm not surprised though, because there are quite a few places that Disers rave about that are just nothing special. I'm from New Orleans, so I recognize good food. I've had NOTHING memorable at WDW besides the fish and chips in the UK.:confused3 I really enjoy eating in WDW and have not had bad food, just not great food. With that being said, I don't go there for food and I will thoroughly enjoy free dining.

i loved the cheeseburgers! those stand out in my mind as one of the best foods of our last trip---and i'm not even a big meateater.

We stayed at Beach Club a trip or two back and opted to not wait in line there. It didn't look like anything special, and I'm honestly not a big ice cream person. I enjoy a Mickey on a Stick but only due to the thick dark chocolate. I don't want a bowl of ice cream very often.

We are staying at BCV at Christmas and if the mood stikes us, may wander over to see how long the wait is for a burger. DH likes ice cream.

Doesn't BC have gelato in their store area? I'd much rather have that!

Yep ... the Beach Club Marketplace has gelato; not a huge selection but at least three or four flavors if I remember correctly.

EDITED: Not that it makes a huge difference, but the most recent menu from B&C indicates that they are supposed to have six ice cream flavors (chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, mint chocolate chip, coffee, and butter pecan); two sherberts (orange and strawberry); and one fat-free, sugar-free ice cream (vanilla). It's possible they could have been out of some flavors when the OP visited or the menu I was looking at hasn't caught up with what B&C is actually serving.

It is a small selection compared with Ghiradelli, which has about 12 or 13 flavors available, but it's also a much smaller space that doesn't exclusively provide dessert. And for what it's worth, the peanut butter / hot fudge dessert we had at Ghiradelli last fall paled in comparison to the No Way Jose.

For us, we went twice with the meal vouchers, back when Disney had them, and Beaches & Cream was the biggest bang-for-the-buck on the vouchers by far. It was grouped in with counter service dining. I remember myself and my husband ordering sundaes and expecting normal-sized portions and getting those enormous, delicious things! Good memories.

I think the burgers at the Fountain are now better than the burgers I used to love from Beaches and Cream, but I would still eat one.

But as others have said, it was the No Way José sundae that always makes me want to go there. I love peanut butter and chocolate. :cloud9:

Well....I'd been planning on trying Beaches and Cream for the first time on our trip next month. Now you have me wondering. Is the atmosphere worth giving up the best hot fudge sundae ever at Ghirardelli? If I were forced to choose between the two, that is.

We went there once years ago and wondered why some people like it so. I'm really not a burger and ice cream person, though, so it's probably harder for me to see the charm.

We always stay at the beach club but never went to beaches and cream..this past may all it did was rain on our trip so we stayed close to our resort...we ate at beaches and cream 2x the burgers really are out of this world and deserve the hype and our service there both tims was spectacular!

Just got back last night. We went to Beaches & Cream for the Kitchen Sink. We thought it was great & Fun. Now I wouldn't do it every trip. We just did if for the fun and had a blast. :cool1::banana::thumbsup2

I totally agree:thumbsup2 We eat there occasionally because we stay there and it is convenient..I don't get people waiting over 90 mins for a table:confused3.But I guess different strokes for different folks

Got to go there every once in awhile for a No Way Jose. Those are awesome. But the kitchen sink grosses me out. The food is okay. Not bad burgers. and raspberry coke :thumbsup2
