Beach day in St Thomas?

Hi! For our stop in St Thomas in a few weeks we want to do a beach day that allows as much time on the least crowded beach possible. Clearly we'd do this on our own, rather than through one of the Disney excursions. Does anyone have any suggestions? We just want a relaxing day swimming and lounging in the sun! Thanks!

The "ports of call" forum of the cruisecritic.com forums gives lots of info. There's also this article here. But basically there are no beaches *right there*, it seems, on St Thomas. So a taxi is needed.

Have you checked cruisett.com to see how many ships are in port on your day? On our very recent cruise it turned out we (Freedom of the Seas) were the ONLY ship in port that day. So *any* beach would have been uncrowded. If I had it to do again I would have prepared for a beach day and grabbed a taxi (they are open air truck/van types of things, not sedans), and headed to Magen's Bay.

What's being called Secret Sands now is actually Lindquist Beach, and that's also an option.

I've also read about Sapphire Beach.
