I'm looking for info on the Vero Beach resort beach cottages. We may stay in one for a week in May. Are they right on the beach? How's the view? Is there a preferred unit? Also, if anyone has any thoughts on the beach at Vero, I'd appreciate your comments. I've heard it's only OK. We're not DVC members, so we'll be paying through the teeth for the cottage, and we want to make sure we'll be getting our money's worth.

We just returned from Vero last night.

The Beach Cottages are AWESOME!

I believe there are 6 of them - and they all have a totally unobstructed view of the Atlantic Ocean.

On the "resort side" of the cottage, you'll walk up 3 steps to the "porch" on which you'll find a porch swing. You'll enter the first floor, with the stairs to your left (I believe). All the bedrooms are on the first floor - each with their own bathroom, but one of the bathrooms has an access door from both the bedroom and the foyer.

The upstairs is all one open room - with a huge balcony.

We just bought an add-on in July SPECIFICALLY to ensure we'd be able to reserve those units every year or so.

Wish I had my camera with me and I'd post some pictures - I took SO many yesterday! Got up about 20 'til 7:00 to get pictures from "our" balcony (we had an ocean view inn room) to get the sunrise (living on the West Coast of Florida - we never get to see that!!) - then I headed down to the beach. Since I walked "South" Sunday morning, I walked North yesterday morning. I encountered only ONE person the entire time - and I was gone for about 45 minutes.

As far as the beach itself - Vero has ALWAYS been narrow - or maybe I should say "shallow." When the tide was out, though - it was plenty "deep," but, when the tide is in - especially during a storm - there's not a lot of "bathing area."

But it's a beautiful area - and a great, relaxing resort. We enjoyed our stay, as short as it was, very much - and I'm ready to go back!

PS - While we were there, there were "two" parties going on in the cottages - one appeared to be a child's birthday - and another was all adults. Looks like maybe the locals might rent these for 1 night to have a great beach house for a party! The "adult" party appeared to have had the resort do the catering. We thought about crashing..... (not really)

Yes, they use the beach cottages for lots of things. I've seen them used for the bridal party to get ready (they hold wedding receptions at the resort) and use the cottage during the wedding weekend. Sometimes different companies will bring people for business or pleasure to the resort and they sometimes also use the cottages for hosting parties.

The beach cottages are awesome...they let you live like a millionaire for a few days.

We were in one in mid-January over the MLK holiday. Everything about the cottages is magnificent. Our unit was next to the last one on the south end of the resort #1550. The front porch swing was missing, and I missed it because I do love a swing. But we spent most of our time on the balcony which faces the ocean. The weather was perfect - low 80's. We didn't do much on the ocean - just getting our feet wet! It was definitely too cold to swim, but there were a few children jumping around in it. Be aware the foliage on the dunes at the edge of the beach grows thickly and even up to the second floor balcony. Also, you cannot go directly down to the beach from your cottage. You must still walk out "the back" and along the sidewalk to the pier entrance. I loved the beach cottage and even though I used 2 years of points for this trip, I would do it again in a heartbeat!

Just to clarify - the beach cottages are not "on the beach" - they sit just on the other side of the dune (which you cannot walk across except at specific points).

To gain access to the beach you need to take a short walk to a wooden bridge which spans the dune.

The first floor of the beach cottages are used for bedrooms because the view is generally obstructed by vegitation. The living room and kitchen are on the second floor and afford an excellent view of the beach and ocean.

We like Vero - yes, the beach can be narrow, but there's still enough of it to enjoy. But we don't have a lot of experience with beaches (other than Castaway Cay), so I can't compare it to anything.

I'd be surprised if you can get one for May. Let us know if you do or if they are not available.

We wanted to go in april, but nothing was available until may. Were staying a week. I don't know if this affects it, but we aren't dvc members.
