be honest -- my rate stinks doesn't it?

Ok, I thought I was a WDW pro. But trying to get a good car rental rate makes discount resort codes look like child's play!

Our rate for a full size car from National from Feb 26-March 8 is $350. I used a contract code from Mousesavers.

Give it to me straight -- this rate stinks, doesn't it?

It seems high to me. Personally, I haven't ever been able to get good rates on the National website. I'm not sure I ever do it right since other people seem to get great rates.

We used Thrify last trip and thought it was quick and easy to catch the shuttle. I booked Thrifty with the AUO2 code for a van for our Nov trip. It's worth it, IF you don't mind picking your car up off-site.

Have you priced Thrifty for a full-size?

National usually starts out high and then drops. For my May trip, I started out in February around $200 for 7 days intermediate EA. I cancelled and rebooked 4 times as the rate dropped. My final rate was $119!

For Oct conv @ National started at $650 in May went down to $320 for 10 days this a.m.

Wait until closer to your dates.

Check out other companies. Also check out the codes available at www.rentalcodes.com or www.bnm.com/joe.htm -- either one may have discounts that are better than National. National's rates do drop the closer you get to the rental date, but for me it's a pain re-quoting the car to get a lower rate. I'd rather get the quote, get the discount up front and forget about it.

My rate for National never dropped and I ended up renting from Thrifty. They were $200 less for a full-size car than National. Try using the code mentioned before or the WMRT code. Even though Thrifty is off-site I found it to be a hassle-free endeavor and would definitely rent from them again.

The THrifty code will not work for the OP's dates. I'm travelling at the same time and already checked. =) However, keep checking with Thrifty as they did run the same promotion for the same time period earlier this year.

Thanks everyone for your diplomatic replies! ;) I will try those other sites and companies. I really did like the idea of renting onsite at MCO and also EA service, but, not for $200 extra bucks!

I'm a big National user, but have to agree that the rates are not as great as they use to be. Lots of times the rates do drop, but my last trip in July the rate never moved and I paid the most I've ever paid. For my upcoming trip I have a full size for 12 days and have a quote of $336, that's using the priceless code and the $20 coupon. I also have a rate of $276 with Dollar, using the MAG code. The base rate for a full size for Dollar was $130 the last time I checked and $183 for full size base rate for National. As much as I like national, Dollar is looking better. The rates for National did start to move slightly this week and I hope it continues. I have a trip for 8 days in January and haven't even thought of booking a car yet because the rates are just too high to bother with it.
