a few people got me all nerved up about luggage weight restrictions.....the limit for your luggage is 50 lbs.....my brother and his wife went on a cruise this past week and they were fine going down and same clothes coming back was three pounds over.....dirt must weigh more.....anyways......three pounds equaled 25 dollars extra.....we have taken our big stand up scale next door to our neighbors who are also going to Disney with us....and weighed theirs and ours......we seems to be okey.....check to make sure all those who flying out soon

Thanks for the reminder, Pumba! It's never fun to be charged extra money.

I'll be on my flight to Disney 48 hours from now--I'll be half way there.

I have a wonderful 26 inch suitcase with shelves. I would pack it and leave it upright in the room and just remove the clothes from it like you would from closet shelves. I have since downgraded to a 25 inch and use packing cubes to minimize wrinkling, all because of the weight restrictions. The other one was tall and deep and very easy to overpack. Last year we were a bit over on one suitcase and I opened it up and stuffed some shoes in a tote bag. It was not worth $25 to have everything in the same suitcase.

Last summer when flying to California my luggage weighed 54 lbs. and they told me to take out 4 lbs. of stuff and put it in my carry-on to avoid being charged the $25. If your luggage is more than 60 lbs. (?) the price goes up even higher to $50. I do know it escalates as the weight goes up.

I weighed my suitcase empty at home and it was about 25 lbs. That doesn't leave much weight left for clothes. Those wheels and handles are nice but they do add weight to your luggage.

I never got close to the weight limit before the restrictions but NOW it's really easy to do so!!

Important these days to weigh your suitcase before ya leave home I guess.

Have a great trip TLinden!!! :wave2:

We had a problem at the Orlando airport coming home last August. One of our suitcases weighed 45 pds. and the other 55. We had to open the suitcases in front of everyone who was standing behind us and shift clothes from one to the other!

Some airlines must be picker than others. On our last trip, they weighed my big bag. It was 74 pounds. The lady just slapped a "heavy" sticker on it and sent us on our way. No extra charge. We were flying Southwest.

Yes, it's no fun to be charged extra for heavy cases.

We usualy fly Northwest and they are very strict with weight restrictions.

On our last two trips DD and I each take our 26" cases, plus we stuff one 2l" with shoes, extra meds and sunscreens that get heavy, hairdryer, food munchies. It works for us. If NW wants us to take more bags that are lighter, so be it. I am NOT paying them more $$, since their fares out of MN are expensive.

herc.

i think the weight restriction varies by airline too. i know on usair, the weight limit is 70 pounds if you are flying internationally.

This happend to DH and I last August while traveling to Disney. When we got to BWI the guy at the baggage counter outside of the airport weighed our bags and they were three pounds over the max weight. So he told DH to give him $20 and he would ensure our bags got on the plane. DH looked at the scale for him self to ensure the guy was not trying to get over on us, and gave him $20 dollars. I then looked at his badge to get his name and told the guy if we arrive in Orlando and our bags are not at baggage claim we were coming after him. The sky cap was true to his word and our bags were there without any problem. It was nice of him to do that with out asking him becuase it would have been $50 for the extra 6lbs.

Coming home was a different story. The sky caps in Orlando were not as nice. We were not looking for a hand out and were willing to pay for the extra poundage. It was just the sky caps attitude that ticked us off. He thought we were not going to tip him, so he basically was just going to leave us hanging. DH got pissed and told him if you are going to help us then help us with our bags (such as putting them on the dolly) if not we will get another sky cap to help us and we will give him YOUR tip. After DH told him that, the sky cap basically did what ever we asked him. All we did was take some shoes out of one bag and put them in another, and that took our weight under the max weight.

I guess how you pack can effect the weight of your bags. DH and I got smart this time. We went to Target and bought Eddie Bauer rolling duffel bags for our trip this coming August instead of using suitcases. You can get more in a duffel bag than a suitcase.

Happened to me traveling from New York to Boston back from a college break. Luckily it was only about 5 pounds over and the guy was nice enough to just smack a heavy sticker on it. He did warn me that other Delta Employees might not be so nice next time.

You guys have me so nervous. We fly Frontier and never have had a problem and I KNOW they were up in the 70's. We just have LARGE suitcases. Got rid of the 25". Now I guess we better go get some 25".

Airlines have gotten MUCH pickier about this. There is a theory that you can tip the skycap, but I am not sure it always works. Plus if you have to go inside for some reason (delayed flights?) they you are out of luck.

The weight limits do vary so go to your airline's website and check the limits. I recently saw too people charged about $50 each for international luggage in Norfolk, VA.

Ok, curiosity got to me and I just checked the Frontier website. It clearly states not to exceed 100 pounds. Wow, I will definitely stick with Frontier. They charge 50.00 for over 3 pieces. Not a problem here. Yahoo, I am happy! ::yes::

On our trip in November to WDW my suitcase weighed 62lbs. I was charged the extra $25. I thought it was easier to pay the extra than to try and shift the weight into the other bags. I was on Delta Song.

Alaska Airlines is 50 pounds and Alaskans or people who come to/leave Alaska are not happy as when ppl fly out they almost always take seafood home.

I got smart last time going to Seattle... I mailed everything home (much cheaper then had I taken it on the plane... just ask my sister who had to pay $150 for 4 or 5 extra boxes  {what can I say, Christmas shopping  :p )
