Be aware if traveling to WDW within the next few days

I just got my package of Clorox Germicidal Wipes in the mail today and tomorrow I'm going to get some Wet Ones! I'll be wiping down the resort room with the Clorox and wiping us down with Wet Ones. We'll be damp, but hopefully safe! :lmao:

Poor baby. That's awful. :sad1: I hope she isn't sick and doesn't have a bad trip!!! As for you guys.... stay well!!!!!! I'll be thinking about ya!!:goodvibes

we stayed at pop century from 12/25-12/29. did not see any sign of vomiting or anyone sick. we were touring all the parks from dawn till close -the only weird thing i saw was when i used the restroom at downtown disney, the attendant in the room was cleaning the toilets after each person used them. the bathroom had four stalls and is located next to the new hanes t shirt place. knock on wood, so far we have come home bug-free

That's wonderful to hear! Perhaps Disney has stepped it up and is getting rid of it!:woohoo:

I bought the professional Chlorox wipes for my room and will be bringing a beach based cleanser. I'm also going to be bringing my own blanket. However I will use the wetones for my table area and washing my hands before I eat. I'll need to get some ziploc bags for trash...my list keeps getting bigger and bigger!

I don't really want to mess with bleach. Do you think it's sufficient enough to wipe down the room with wet ones?

I've seen signs of vomiting by the Grand Floridian second floor monorail stop, the Polynesian volcano pool, the Splash Mountain queue, and the Toy Story Mania queue.

Also, I saw yesterday at the Polynesian that every cast member at the check-in area has a huge bottle of Purell next to their desk. Thought it was an interesting coincidence, as I've never seen that before.

I was just going to wipe down the room with Wet Ones also because that's what I can take in my carry on. I'm hoping it will be sufficient. I also plan on plenty of hand washing and then using the Wet Ones when we can't hand wash.

:thumbsup2 You sound like us. We did basically the exact same things you did and are fine. We've been home 24 hrs. and no sign of anything.

Yes, I'll never know if what we did actually made a difference or if we were just lucky!!! :goodvibes
We did stay off-site in our own condo and drove, so had no-one else's bugs to come into contact with at home and on the buses. My feeling is that made the most difference as it decreased our exposure a lot. :)

We left WDW on Friday morning after staying at POR for a week and all of us have been fine. The room directly next to ours was stripped of furniture and had cardboard taped on the windows about 1/2 way through our stay which kind of creeped me out, but the first thing I thought of was bedbugs, not virus.

Benzalkonium hand cleanser?? Does anyone have a brand name and a location as to where I can purchase this??? Thank you in advance!!

We bought it as a foaming hand rub at WHSmiths at Manchester airport. :scratchin Sorry, I can't remember the brand name as it is now gone.

Great advice about Wet Ones, I didn't know that, otherwise try a pharmacy and look on the labels for Benzalkonium or Benzethonium. And (from the world's greatest worrier :guilty: ) try not to worry about it, as stress lowers your body's ability to fight infection and thus makes you more likely to catch it.

Healthy holidays to all!! :thumbsup2

I agree with you no use worrying...just going to take percautions and be done with it...hope everyone else getting ready to go has a safe and healthy trip.

We were there from 12/20-12/26-- one of us ended up sick while there (12/25) and at centra care; I got sick the day we got home and tested positive for flu (as in real thing-not the generic "i have the flu" AND i had the flu vaccine get it every year). Definitely got it while i was there given incubation periods, and the only off property thing we did was Centra Care. :sad2:
**and YES we did take all the precautions of hand cleaning etc! its near impossible unless you are wiping down every ride seat/bars etc before you ride.

WetOnes wipes I think are easiest to get - they're available at most drug/grocery stores, WalMarts, Targets, and a lot of gas stations. This site has a list of some other ones available at various retail stores.

I found a waterless hand sanatizer with these products. I called the company and they were very helpful. It was soapopularusa.com. You can order the stuff direct. Discount code is get20off to get 20% off. However, the representative said that Banzalkonium Chloride and Benzethonium Chloride have not been proven to reduce norwalk! This is coming from the people that sell this stuff so I would think it would be true. :sad1: :sad1: :sad1:

You can decide for yourself.

I just spoke to a rep at a Soappopular who sell this and they said it does nothing against the norovirus. I don't know where this info is coming from? :confused3

We are planning a trip in the first week of Feb....what are the chances this will be gone by then? This really sounds weird that so many people got this. You have to think of all the other guests that were sick and do not belong to the DIS. so we would not hear from them....
Anyway we have been going to WDW for over 20 years, for over 16 years we lived just one hour away and I do not recall ever hearing of a flu that hit Disney like this.
How long has the reports been coming in on the DIS? If it was early Dec and now its Dec 31 ....this is a long time for a park and resort to be hit with this.
Im worried. If the hand sanitizer does not work then how do you protect yourself? :confused3
Im worried about our daughter, she has a neuromuscular condition so when she get sick it hits her a bit harder and stays around longer. She is in a fairly large high school and really does not get sick often but this sounds scary :scared1:

We returned last night from our stay at CSR and fortunately none of us became ill nor did we hear any talk of any virus going around - doesn't mean there wasn't we just didn't hear of it.

we were there 11/27-30 & 12/6-13 at the parks. we did not stay onsite. we hit every park & downtown disney but did not see anyone ill or hear of any illness going on.
seems like a lot of this has been spread at the resorts :confused3

Now that I've been reading further in to this online I have found these links I think everyone should read!!

I found this part particularly interesting since a lot of people came back thinking they had "food poisoning".

" The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimate that at least 50 percent of foodborne outbreaks in the United States are attributed to norovirus with 10 percent from cruise ships, 36 percent in restaurants and catered meals, 23 percent in nursing homes, and 13 percent in schools. While the source of a majority of cases is unknown, foodborne (source of 39 percent of cases), water (3 percent of cases) and person-to-person spread (12 percent of cases) may be involved."

You can read the entire thing here:
http://www.ecolab.com/PublicHealth/Norovirus.asp

It has also been said numerous times on this thread and some other threads here on the DIS that alcohol based hand sanitizers do not work against the virus. But I found this on the CDC (center for disease control) web site...

What about alcohol-based hand sanitizers?
CDC recommends that cruise ship passengers use warm water and soap to wash their hands. Washing is always best.
If water and soap are NOT available (perhaps on excursions), use an ethanol alcohol-based (a minimum 62%) hand sanitizer, preferably in a gel form.

You can read about this here:
http://www.cdc.gov/nceh/vsp/pub/Handwashing/HandwashingTips.htm

****EDIT.... Ok, I just realized that the part on the CDC website is just about handwashing. Not directly about norovirus. A little misleading since I clicked the link from the other site to there.

Oh, well. My hand sanitizer is only 60% alcohol, but it'll have to do!
