BCV - Studio With Roll-In Shower

We recently spent 12 nights in a studio at BVC. I requested a pool view and was assigned a studio with a roll-in shower (wheelchair accessible). I did not like this room layout at all. The bathroom is large and the sink does not have a counter (only a small shelf above it). There is no closet in the room (due to the size of the bathroom) and very limited counter space because the microwave and cupboards are accessible. We immediately requested a different room and ended up in Room 555 with an awesome view of the fireworks. By the way, we checked in at 9 am on the Sunday after President's Day and both our original and new rooms were ready. Next time, "no roll-in shower" will be at the top of my request list!

A few questions-did they at least tell you beforehand that you were getting this type of room? Did they charge you to move? And most important-what was the room number? Our first DVC stay was in a room with a roll-in shower, they didn't tell us at check-in, and when I called within minutes of seeing our room, they told us we'd have to pay $25 to be moved. This was VWL. I want to know the room number so that if this happens at BCV, we can refuse the room when we're still at the front desk.

PLEASE LET THIS DIE HERE! I don't really want to read another whole thread where those of you lucky enough not to need a wheelchair act indiginant because Disney has these rooms and you were cursed by getting one!

Once again I think you're missing the point. And the point in my
case was that the front desk did not define the differences to the room. I am very glad that I do not require a HA room and I am also glad that disney offers them to those who do. All I ask is please don't tell me they are the same if they are not.

I agree with "mitymott"....I think the front desk should let you know at check-in that they have assigned you to a handicap room and give you the option of not taking it. I am fortunate that I don't need a handicap room and, at the same time, I am glad that Disney has these rooms available for those that need them.

At check-in, we were not given any information about the room. We did not have to pay a fee to change rooms - our luggage was still in our van. It's great that DVC has these rooms, but they are not suitable for 4 people for an extended stay.

Maybe its because I was taught to never park in a HA parking space that I would almost feel guilty staying in this type of room- I know many people were requesting a HA room on the cruise because the rooms are larger. I would never do that. I appreciate posts like this because I have a small child that only takes baths and I would hate to find myself in this situation.

Hey! 555 is my studio! Glad you enjoyed it.

I was also lucky to have learned about the accessible rooms from this board. I asked at check in if we had a regular room assigned (we did). At the time of our visit my 2 year old was afraid of showers & he would have been a very dirty little boy by the end of our stay!
