Hello- I'm new to this site and I love how involved everyone is! We are members at VWL and convinced my in-laws to join as well- They did at BCV. They are going thru the closing process and have put their membership in their trust. DVC has messed up on their paperwork and the closing process is delayed. In the meantime they had 2 studios reserved for Sept. 28 thru Oct 5 at BCV. One person at member services said they would hold the rooms thru closing and another said the reservation would be held thru today only. Can their DVC rep. override member services on this? We'd hate to lose this res. over their delays. Look forward to participating more on this site- you all provide great insight!! GO DISNEY!!! This is my 1st post- go easy on me!

I don't really have the answer either, I do know the guides can work wonders so try their guide. Just wanted to say welcome to the DIS. You have found your way home!

I don't have the answer either but welcome to the dis! This is a great forum.:D

The way it was explained to me was:

You can make a reservation as soon as you sign. You can't bank or borrow till after you close. You can even take a vacation on current year points before you close, in this case you will need to sign a personal guarantee for payment of the room should the closing not happen.

This was a zillion years ago and all I am absolutely sure of is that this was how it was explained to me when I bought in '92.

Welcome home.

Thank you for the info. I remember when we joined we booked before closing and everything worked out fine. I've noticed some Wilderness lodge bashing on this site and I can't understand it. Wilderness is our home resort and every CM we've come in contact with, from valet to housekeeping to checkout has been first class. If I had one complaint it would be that I don't have enough points to live there year round!!

being one who was affected....would consider it more "expressing concerns" as opposed to "bashing VWL"

and with those expressions, hopefully they will work at a remedy so it does not happen to other DVC vacationers ( as we all want a magical experience when we go there )

Prior to joining our guide had a room held for 24 hrs. for us through MS. That evening we put down our deposit (min. $500) and the next afternoon I called MS to confirm our reservation. At that point our info had been entered into the system.

We hadn't signed anything, they only had our deposit so I think that as long as they have a deposit a reservation can be made.

I hope it works out for them. :D

hi: it worked that way for me when we purchased at bwv. the closing was supposed to happen at some point either right before or during our vacation there. it wasn't a big deal and our guide took care of making sure ms had all 3 of our units in the system for the vacation. as far as "bashing" goes, not everyone likes the different dvc resorts; they each have a different atmosphere. this makes it great because you can "customize" your vacation with whatever resort will fit your needs. also, not every dvc resort can be absolutely perfect all the time for every single person (dvc member or cast member). this is simply human nature and when things don't go as planned or expected, people need to vent. just take everything with a grain of salt.

I wouldn't say the threads regarding VWL were "bashing." I think some members have had similar experiences regarding what type of room they were given. These experiences were not exactly magical & understandably made for some uphappy DVC members. I will venture to say that almost all DVC CMs are very dedicated to providing a magical experience to all members. However, when the experience is not magical, members generally expect some help/assistance, an apology, etc.

For example, I had a room "issue" on my last stay at OKW. I have to say that every CM we talked to - front desk, housekeeping, maintenance - stayed on the situation until it was resolved. One particular CM went out of her way to be sure we were settled into a new room :). I made sure this CMs supervisor heard from me in a positive way :).

RJ's Dad, as for your original question/concern, I would contact Member Services tomorrow. I have always talked to VERY helpful CMs in Member Services!
