Must be more than one because I witnessed them taking one out and loading it into a truck last month. That six footer was just behind the bus stop area. How long was the one you saw?
It was amazing watching a man actually jump on the gator's back and wrap his mouth and tail.
You can't get rid of alligators in Florida. When I lived in Gainesville there was a harvest of 1,000 from two relatively small lakes nearby and the next week you couldn't detect even a slight decrease in their numbers.
When you take an alligator out of a "territory", it usually doesn't take long for another one to discover the vacancy and claim the space for its own. Animal Control will then remove the gator once they reach a certain length, I don't remember how long though...
Thanks for sharing! I've been telling my family about the BCV gator and everyone has been looking forward to seeing a "real" gator in the wild. DS is especially excited. We just hope he doesn't decide to feed the gator his sister!
