BBC- Any dream will do.....

I'm all for oportunity Deb, as long as the talent and the commitment is there too! Of course luck plays a HUGE part for professionals too (in whatever their field of work is), it's the old 42nd Street addage "I want you to go out there a nobody and come back a star". I just worry that people are pushed too quickly in areas they're not ready for. And what happens after the show/contract? They get booted out and forgotten and, boy, is that a long way to fall.

Old theatre joke (well joke might be pushing it)

Who is UKDEB?
UKDEB is good, get her
I've got to have UKDEB, whatever the cost
I've got UKDEB.
What we want is a UKDEB kind...but cheaper
Get me the next UKDEB
Who is UKDEB?

Hey, lets put on the show right here...

:rotfl: You've lost me now, buddy, but I'll defer to your greater wisdom. :thumbsup2 I do think that these shows make stars of people for the duration of the show and then no-one cares much.

are we all getting ready

May I return to the beginning,
The Light is Dimming
and the dream is too ...

Close every door to me
Keep those I love from me
Children of Isreal are never alone

Go go go Jo

Why do us ladies all love John Barrowman so much? Must be his good looks and sexy eyes I think !! ;)

It's good family entertainment and just right for a Saturday night. (Next week we also have the search for Sandy and Danny (Grease) on ITV !!

I find John Barrowman hard to watch - whilst performing. Difficult to get past his American accent!

Programme was fab!
I love Andrew Lloyd Webber - while they were auditioning he sat there watching in his Castle! and an audionee would sing a Joseph song and he'd say "that's not how I wrote it" BRILLIANT

Show was good, couldn't see any of my cast that auditioned on the VT but there is a talented man from Bristol there yeah go Bristol.
But I could strangle those who beg for a place or tell there sad life story - just perform! lol sorry my production director bit coming out there!

Did everyone else enjoy it?

Oh, another one of those programmes. aaaaaaaghghghg

It must be just me. Do we really have a problem with professional performers doing professional performances in professional theatres? Why does everything have to be a competition, usually with someone who 'has a story' which is usually the clue for sad or inspirational music, and people buy the story and vote.

I understand the girl who won the Sound of Music competition has realised that going from nothing to singing eight shows a week is tiring - that's why musical performers to an 'apprenticeship' by being in the chorus and doing small parts - and has had loads of time off sick and wil only do certain shows now.

That's not to say some of these people aren't talented: they are. Personally if I'd paid £40 + to see a show I'd like to rest assured that the performers I'm paying to see have been chosen by experienced theatre professionals. Not by someone who's got half an eye on the Bella crossword and half a mind on the friends telephone call about thier marital/child/wedding/spot welding problems.

Coming soon: "Doctor, Doctor" Ordinary members of the public complete over 12 weeks to see who gets the chance to perform cardio-vascular surgery on a close relative.

It is just me isn't it...

My brother works for ALW and apparently a lot of the people who audition are out of work actors who have lots of experience behind them and just can't get the break that they need. I also seem to remember that he said that Connie had some experience of being in the chorus etc.

Hi I caught half of the show - really loved it and Sky + it for next week.

Yes - I too was in a school production of Joseph and there is certainly something sexy about John Barrowman.:rolleyes1

:flower3:

Looking forward to next week's....I don't have a favourite yet though :)

Andrew Lloyd-Webber was fab, but I thought the rest was a bit boring. Maybe it'll be better once they get past the audition stage. I didn't think any of them were stand-out good, either. Perhaps I'm suffering from reality show burn-out - I'm not enjoying American Idol as much as usual.

I enjoyed it too, though thought that they showed too many of the auditionees singing for the panel, it got a bit tired after a while. The one I thought was best was there with his mum, see whether I change my mind next week. Did anyone else think the panel process was a little unfair? Because they told people straight away whether they were through, there was only one place left at the end and six people wanting it - what if they were all really good?!

Laur's princess:

I loved it, will be watching next week. Didn't see much of the Maria one, only the last few. Isn't there a Grease one starting soon?:cheer2:

Ruth Grease starts this Saturday :)

Laur's it was a strange process???
