Hi everyone,

My husband has been wanting to visit one of the water parks ever since our first trip 3 years ago. Since I can't swim, I've been shying away from the water parks, but would really like to get it a try next year.

So which water park do you think I'll enjoy more? What types of activites can I do without swimming? I know there's a tube ride and wading pools, anything else?

Thanks,
Michelle

At Typhoon Lagoon you don't really 'swim' in the Shark Reef. You have a buoyant swim vest that keeps you above water, allowing you to 'float' across the reef.

The family raft ride at either park does not require swimming, nor do the tube rides as long as you're tall enough to touch bottom. If you aren't afraid of going under water for a moment, you should be fine on any of the tube or body slides.

You don't need to know how to swim for the shallow end of Typhoon Lagoon's wave pool. Again, if you're not afraid of water going over your head as long as you can touch bottom, you should be fine there too.

And then there's the Lazy River. Pure bliss, and no need for swimming. You should be able to touch bottom all the way along. If nothing else, you can soak up the sun in beautiful surroundings (especially true at Typhoon Lagoon).

Go and enjoy! Disney's water parks are fabulous!

Thanks Cleo. I appreciate the post!

I'm about 5 foot 3, so meeting the height requirement shouldn't be a problem.
Thanks for the descriptions of the attractions. You've certainly spark my interest, and now I'm kinda looking forward to the water park day!

(Plus it's always fun buying a new bikini or swimsuit for vacation! That is such a girl thing. My hubby has had the same swim wear for over 5 years.)

Sadly, I seem to collect new swimsuits at an alarming rate, so I know just where you're coming from! I really do think you'll enjoy the water parks. Typhoon Lagoon is lush and tropical, Blizzard Beach is pure 'kid fun'. We love them both, as do our boys.

I hope you come back with wonderful memories! Whichever park you choose you'll have a good time, and if you only visit one this trip you have something new to look forward to next time! ;)

I am a non-swimmer

and I enjoy TL with my husband. The wave pool has a lot of area that's not over my head. The lazy river ride is very nice. There are shady areas and beaches to relax.

Personally, I think BB is more geared toward water "rides" and slides (although TL has these too) and there is less shade.

I, too, am a non-swimmer. Many years ago we went to TL and I loved the lazy river, loved the waves (because my DH is a big guy and held on to me and I just floated with it - had it been any other way I probably would have been terrified).

I also went down one of the slides and will NEVER do that again. There was nothing scary about the water part at all, and I didn't feel like I was drowning at the bottom or anything - but getting myself to GO from that top was one of the bravest moments I've ever had and I just don't think I'm up for that again! :teeth:

My mom is also a non-swimmer and has had fun at TL several times. I'm even ready to try the new water coaster, since it seats more than one and DH can keep me safe.
