Hi!

We are planning our FIRST trip to DLR this January. (EEEE!) I keep reading about BB - what is this, and why is it so awesome?

Please educate me. Pictures help, I am a visual learner.

Thanks! :D

I have no pics but this is DH's FAVORITE place. When you begin on the POTC, the boat goes through the Bayou. As you pass, there is a restaurant that is part of the ride- the Blue Bayou. It is one of the few table service restaurants. You dine in what looks like the outside at night. The lights twinkle and you hear the crickets and frogs of the Bayou. The food is very good and the Monte Cristo is an original. You can check out the menu on allears.net. Waterside tables are preferred as you feel part of the ride. I like to go there during the day. It is a sensory flash to go from the inside "nighttime" room to the outside daylight

Yep, Blue Bayou.

It's a restaurant that is, basically, inside the ride Pirates of the Caribbean. You are seated with a view of the boats leaving the "station" and entering the ride.

It's full of really cool bayou/New Orleans ambiance, with LOW lighting, water sounds/smells/sights, etc. Hanging colorful lamps.

The food? Meh. Expensive. Just like a character meal, the food itself is not worth the price. But with a character meal you get the characters...with BB you get the awesomeness of being in POTC.

Ooooooh, that sounds neat!!! We will have to think about it and check out that menu!! Thanks guys!

The title of this thread is priceless "What is this place all you DLR people talk about"

Makes me want to squeeze the cuteness right out of the OP! :goodvibes

Like the wonderful Bumbershoot said, I don't think you pay for food quality but ambiance, which, I've heard tell cannot be beat but is often passed up on by budge conscious DISers.

If you don't want to pay ambiance prices, remember you can get the Monte Cristo at Cafe Orleans!

This page has some photos, and I'd do a thread search for more because the thread as a whole is EXTENSIVE!!! HTH:goodvibes

Consider my cuteness all squeezed out! But don't worry - I refill daily.

I will check out that thread. Are there any other SUPER AMAZING THREAD-WORTHY restaurents to eat at?? I found it amazing that there were WHOLE turkey legs at WDW for sale to eat! How weird! But scrumptious - I loved ours (yes, we fed our whole family on one.)

Any other must-eats at DLR?

Carnation Cafe is widely popular as is Bengal BBQ, both in DL. I haven't heard consistantly of a "must-do" eatery in DCA, but have heard that ESPN Zone in DTD is really yummy, as well as Ralph Brennan's (sp?). HTH :goodvibes

Ok, cute!! LOL LOVE it!!! :)

BTW, there are turkey legs in DL too! LOL If you eat at Cafe Orleans, have the Pomme Frites, they are delish!! :)

Here is a picture of the restaurant from one of the ride boats. It is very dark in here but that just adds to the atmosphere.

I think the Blue Bayou is more about atmosphere than it is about food. Not saying that it isn't a great place, but the last few times I've been I haven't been that impressed by the food. Personally, I wish I could eat Cafe Orleans' food at Blue Bayou. Then it would be perfect!

Anyway, since you've been to WDW, have you been on the Gran Fiesta Tour ride in Mexico at World Showcase? Your boat passes by the San Angel Inn restaurant that's overlooking the ride. Blue Bayou is kind of like that, only it's in Pirates of the Caribbean and New Orleans/bayou themed.

We have always thought the food was really good..... the prime rib, surf and turf, mahi mahi, have always been excellent...and of course the creme brulee is to die for. Also the gumbo they start you with is ambrosia!

The lunch menu there is a bit less expensive than the dinner menu. It's a must-do restaurant for us every trip!!

You can also go there for just dessert...lot's of people here have done that! All the ambiance without the big bill!

Definitely go there since it's your FIRST trip to DLR. For first-timers, you'll be getting a delicious taste of a Disneyland original. It's a lovely experience!

Hubby and I have been there numerous times but lately we've been skipping it because the whole package for the cost isn't quite enticing enough to keep us going back every single time.

You *shouldn't* have problems getting reservations in January as it's relatively quiet then, but I suggest planning ahead to make sure a table is reserved for your party. Call Disney Dining at (714) 781-3463. Reservations can be made up to 60 days in advance.

]FWIW: I found that the BB was booked waaay in advance the past two years during DLR Holiday Celebration in December. I was calling 3-4 weeks in advance and found there were no open slots at all during our trip. Ooops! People who are visiting in December - be prepared!]
