Basking in the Glow of the (not so) Creepy Clown -2/11-Pictures, Final Thoughts, PTR!

Great pictures around AK!

Henry looks adorable drumming away! :cutie:

Yay for the sand bucket :woohoo:

Restaurantosaurus has such cool theming!

Can't wait to hear about the dig site!

Love the picture of Joe and Henry playing the drums. We have eaten at Restaurantasaurus twice and really liked it. Like you said, you can't beat the air conditioning, and the food is good. Hurray for getting a shovel and pail for Henry -- don't you love it when things like that happen? :goodvibes

I have not been in Restaurantosaurus since it was affiliated with the Golden Arches. Even then, I really didn't look around too much, so the pictures make me want to take a second glance next year. Pixie Dust never gets old, does it? I love that the little or big things that Disney pays attention to is appreciated by most.:goodvibes I cannot wait to hear how Henry utilized said bucket and shovel.:woohoo:

P.S. I did hear about MN & WI today on NPR. They said that the Mississippi would crest at about 4 1/2 feet above flood stage? Yikes. I sincerely hope that the people that really need the help are getting it.

Hi Brook! I had a busy weekend & wasn't online much so I just read your past 2 updates.

My heart broke as soon as I read about the flooding in Minnesota! I will definitely keep your family & friends in my prayers! I hope that your cousin is able to go home soon to be with her family. I can imagine it would be especially hard being pregnant (extra stress & separation from her home & family). I also feel horrible for her & her family that so much was lost, including the family cat. As an animal lover myself, I hope she is able to recover from her loss. Although I have heard stories from friends in the past, I cannot even begin to imagine how hard it would be to lose everything. As others have said, the irreplaceable memories are the hardest to lose...pictures, baby keepsakes, reminders of special moments, etc. Not to mention how hard it is to rebuild rooms and/or houses (time, money, emotionally, physically, etc).

It will take time to heal & recover from this ordeal & my thoughts & prayers are with you & your family during this time!

It seems like a fairly quick response from FEMA. I'm glad they were there to help, but sorry they are condemning so many houses & towns! I wasn't aware that FEMA gave them an hour to decide whether or not to take the money from them...seems kind of harsh to me. I mean, they are already going through a horrible ordeal losing their homes and belongings...I think they need more time than an hour to decide. That is a life changing decision to make! It is great that FEMA offers that, but I hope its a fair price to the families if they choose to take that option. I can't imagine having to give up rights to your property & not having the chance to rebuild on your own ground.

Shame on the news for not reporting this across the country! Our cable has 2 different weather channels & I have been watching them both alot the past few days due to the changing weather and since its Hurricane season. They never once mentioned it & I cannot believe that! I think its absolutely horrible that something of this magnitude was not reported. I will keep watching & let you know if I hear of it on the news.

I loved reading your AK update! Wait until I get to that part of my trip...you will laugh because there are so many similarities! Our AK day is actually my next update...so hopefully I'll get to it soon so you can read it! We ate at Restarauntosaurus as well but we had never heard of it before. I have no idea how we missed it last trip, but we just came across it by accident this trip (mostly because we wanted a place to sit down in air conditioning! lol)

Don't you love those little buckets with the shovel? Luke got his the one evening at CBR's food court & he was sooo amazed that his chicken nuggets & fries were inside! I think at first he thought mommy ordered him a bucket instead of food because when I handed it to him, he just looked at me like something was missing! Then he looked inside, saw the food, and said "ooooh!" and laughed! :goodvibes He loved it & used it alot on the trip. He still uses it in his sandbox at home & carries the shovel around with him in the car. (Seriously, I just found it underneath my driver's seat in my car yesterday afternoon!)

When we ate at Restarauntosaurus, we sat in a back room, but I didn't see that really neat camper room that blessedby3 posted! I wish I would've explored the restaurant a little more, but it was super crowded when we were there & almost time for the parade! We sat in a room towards the back, it looked like a garage. I noticed a door to the right of us, I'm wondering now if thats where the camper is?! It was nice to see all of your pictures of the interior of the restaurant as well. I tried to get a picture of that big dino head but none of them turned out. I can't remember if I got a pic of the Fixins bar or not, but I liked yours! We loved the free refills too!

I completely forgot on our trip how some don't think its appropriate for one parent to get a table while the other waits in line. Personally, I don't understand what the issue is (everyone of course is entitled to their own opinion, this is just mine). We weren't ever trying to take anyone else's table or steal the good seats, it was just sooooo much easier with a little guy! (as I'm sure many moms can relate to!) There's no way Luke would've stood in every line to order food & the stroller would've just been in everyone's way. Even as crowded as the parks were during our trip, we always ate at "off times" so none of the restaurants were really packed (usually lunch between 10-11am and early dinner...we're used to eating dinner at 4 so we are done before everyone else eats!) I definitely think it was better for other guests (as well as myself) for one of us to sit down & one to order. I even had a few people offer to take my tray to my table throughout our trip (CM's and other guests) which I thought was very nice. I always declined & said I could get it myself, but always thanked them a million times for offering! :goodvibes

I can't wait to see pictures from the Boneyard! That was on my list of things to do, but right after we ate, we went to see Pooh/Tigger/Eeyore and then got a spot for the parade. We never went back to the Boneyard. I wanted to go there too since Luke couldn't play at Pooh's playful spot at the MK & we had forgotten to go to the Honey I Shrunk the Kids playarea a few days before! (Oops!) It wasn't a huge deal but I will definitely stop by next trip!

Can't wait to hear more!!!

I haven't been to Restaurantosaurus in a long time. And, when we did go there, it was so busy that I didn't see any of the little treasures that you were able to capture pictures of. It was too darn busy.

Yay for Henry getting his sand pail. I could tell he was happy to get it. Looking forward to seeing pictures of him playing with the pail in the Boneyard.

If I could pick up and go (and still have the same basic hours, pay, and benefits) working at Rafiki's Planet Watch/Conservation Station would be my ideal job. Since I can't, kids like Doug will be my ideal students! :thumbsup2

I bet he and I could spend a couple of very fun hours out there.
If we ever have trips that overlap in Disney World, that's where we'll plan to meet. :)

Wouldn't it be wonderful if jobs were transferable like that? Doug would LOVE being in your class. He loves to learn and loves Disney. One foot in your room and I do not think he'd ever want to come home! :goodvibes

That sounds like a great plan to me! As I was waking up this morning, I was thinking that on our Nov trip I might send Ryan back to the hotel with Aileen and possibly Liam to let Doug really read and ask and learn at Rafiki's. And since we'd be there late, we could watch Jammin Jingle too!

A quick personal note...

As you may have seen on my Facebook, or perhaps even the news, southeastern Minnesota has recently had a major flood - and unfortunately, much of my family and family friends are affected.

My cousin and her husband, and their son, live in my Grandma's home (my Grandma now lives with her son, thankfully!), and they were directly affected. They have lost all their furntiure, bedding, all the floors, walls, and cabinets will need to be re-done on the first floor. Everything in their garage (which was a LOT!) is pretty much gone and destroyed. How do you tell a 3 year old boy all his toys are gone???? :sad1:

If you pray, please pray for them right now. It's a very rough time for them, for obvious reasons, but also, my cousin is pregnant, so it's even harder on her because she cannot be there for safety reasons.

I have so many childhood memories wrapped up in that house and in these towns that are affected. A high school friend of mine COMPLETELY lost her childhood home and her Mom is now homeless. My second cousins have lost everything on their first floor, and who knows if their home can be saved. It's devastating. So many memories...washed away.

Thanks all.

-Brook

I have been following along on FB. How incredibly sad! I hope that the settlements FEMA offers are fair and just. My dad worked for FEMA after hurricane Katrina and still will tell you how hard it was.

Looks like a great lunch at Restaurantasaurus! I'll have to add that to my never ending must try list. Oh and we totally use the divide and conquer philosophy when we eat at counter service places too. It's better for everyone that way, trust me! :upsidedow

Okay girl, I am late joining in but I am here finally!!! lol

/
One hour?!! :faint: That is a bit much to ask...I think.
Glad your Grandma's house got the all clear

Cute video of H playing the drums....I liked how at the end he was trying to used the bottom of the drum like binoculars!! :goodvibes

Lunch looked good...and you are right...I always overlooked it!! :rolleyes1
A/C + free refills + bucket = :woohoo:

Tracy

Score on that bucket and shovel!! A happy boy those will make!!!

:thumbsup2

::yes::

And he still loves it - we just got back from the sandbox and playing with it!

Hi Brook, Magdalene and me actually did some exploring at Restaurantosaurus after our meal and went to every room, luckily it was quite empty. There are so many funny details, I think it is an attrection for itself :)

It seems like it is! I will definitely be exploring it next time we eat there. I wish the menu was a bit larger, it would be a regular spot for us to eat.

Hi Brook, what a wonderful surprise with the bucket!! I remember that I recommended Restorantosaurus to you on your PTR and I am glad that you went there!! :goodvibes I wonder wether the bucket is because of the vicinity to the playground? And it actually fits the theme of a canteen for students working on an excavation site. :thumbsup2

On the table issue: I personally get the point why people are against it. If the lines at the register are very long, it might be possible for someone to eat there meal in the time it takes another person to get through the line. So when it is very crowded, people might have difficulties finding a table while others are sitting at one for ages waiting for their food. BUT I would never get into a fight about this issue and absolutely agree with your surprise about how intense these discussions can get on the boards. :confused3 And in your case: if there are plenty of tables, there is certainly no reason for not sitting down while you are waiting for the food!

I wrote Restaurantosaurus down in my trip notes as an option right when you suggested it - I'm so glad you did! It's always fun to try somewhere new. I still have yet to try Flame Tree BBQ though, so that is on the list for March, with a back-up plan back here!

I think you are right about the buckets. As you'll see in the next update when we got to the Boneyard dig site area there were MANY of those buckets already there (I didn't recall that from last time we were in there though?), so either people abandoned them there, or they just had some. I think it's very clever of Disney to give these out as part of the theme!

I completely understand the table deal too when the parks are busy with long lines. Espeically if people are holding several tables. During NYE week they sometimes wouldn't let you get a table until you had your entire party and the food. It made waiting a bit interesting sometimes with a toddler, BUT, there is almost always a small area to wait in so not everyone still has to stand in line. But, like you, I wouldn't get in a heated discussion over it! Sometimes people get very worked up on the boards!

We only went into the big room and small section off of it, too. I'll have to check out the little trailer room. I guess it's over to the right if you are facing the counter? We just went to the left. It is a nice little hidden gem, since everyone usually thinks of Flame Tree or Pizzafari if they are not doing a Tusker House or Yak & Yeti sit down meal.

Great pictures, Brook. Looking forward to see Henry having fun in The Boneyard.

It really is a hidden gem. Set back a bit, so you might miss it. It was a cool little oasis for us this trip! I know there was another room behind the big room off to the left, so the trailer might be back in there too.

Great pictures around AK!

Henry looks adorable drumming away! :cutie:

Yay for the sand bucket :woohoo:

Restaurantosaurus has such cool theming!

Can't wait to hear about the dig site!

He loved those drums!! Anything that makes lots of noise is a big winner in a little boy's world. :rotfl:

Love the picture of Joe and Henry playing the drums. We have eaten at Restaurantasaurus twice and really liked it. Like you said, you can't beat the air conditioning, and the food is good. Hurray for getting a shovel and pail for Henry -- don't you love it when things like that happen? :goodvibes

I remember you mentioning Restaurantasaurus in your TRs too - between you and Magdalene I figured it would certainly be worth a try! So thank you! :thumbsup2

It's so great when little things like that happen - just that bit of pixie dust!

I have not been in Restaurantosaurus since it was affiliated with the Golden Arches. Even then, I really didn't look around too much, so the pictures make me want to take a second glance next year. Pixie Dust never gets old, does it? Oh, now the Mississippi is flooding too???? Ugh! This one was a smaller river, the Zumbro River, it was 18 feet over flood stage. :scared1: Now it's back down and clean up has begun...but now if the Mississippi is going to flood even MORE family will possibly be affected. Hopefully my Mom will be fine, she lives right across from the Mississippi, but I think the banks are high enough where she is that it won't get near her. Thanks for the info - I'll have to give her a call!

Thank you so much for your words on my family! :goodvibes The water is receding and my Uncle and cousin's husband have ripped out almost all the walls and flooring and cabinets. Furniture needs to be replaced as well, but a lot of stuff was salvageable in their home, thankfully! Most all the family albums and such were not affected - including my Grandma's 80+ years of newspaper clippings and photographs from her life. My second cousin - they lost EVERYTHING on their 1st floor. :sad2: It really is very sad. And it frustrates all of us that it's not on the news much at all...small towns aren't newsworthy enough I guess! :sad1:

That is so funny about our AK days! Understandable though being our little guys are the same age. :thumbsup2 I didn't realize CBR had the bucket and shovel too! That is very cool. Maybe we'll just have to get over there and visit during March! That's hilarious about Luke's reaction to it though!!! :lmao: "Ooooh!" so stinkin' cute.

The Boneyard is a very cool area - at least since you missed it Luke doesn't know what he's missing! ;) Henry REMEMBERED it from September 2009.  That kid loves to dig!

It really does have a ton of little details. There were things all over the walls. I could spend a lot of time in there exploring. Like nodol said, it's an attraction of itself! Might be fun to just go explore in there on a hot day, don't even order food!

I have been following along on FB. How incredibly sad! I hope that the settlements FEMA offers are fair and just. My dad worked for FEMA after hurricane Katrina and still will tell you how hard it was.

I can't imagine working during all that - you have your job, yet you are struck with all these people completely devastated, frustrated, angry, confused...ugh. That would be VERY hard. And Katrina was so much worse.

We were pleasantly surprised with the eats. It was very basic stuff, nothing exciting, but just the value with the kids meal and the unexpected bonuses of the bucket and cookie just put us all in a great mood!

Plus the free refills. ;)

Okay girl, I am late joining in but I am here finally!!! lol

:welcome: Glad you found me! I gotta get on yours too - and a few others! I get too far behind here! Handy dandy links in the 1st post so you can skip the chatter!

Tracy

I think it's a bit much as well...but I also understand they gotta know and move on. It's just all around a very difficult situation. :sad1:

He was actually shouting into the bottom of the drum like it was a giant microphone and then finished it by saying "Over!" - he does that with microphones, telephones, etc. He's such a GOOF! I have no idea where he picked up the "Over!" from - must be from some cartoon or movie??? :lmao:

Restaurantosaurus is set back and hidden a bit - I really don't think we had ever taken noticed of it! We've walked right past and probably seen the airstream trailer outside and thought "Cute" and kept on going.

We left off after a fun meal at Restaurantosaurus and were headed straight for the Boneyard - to the dig site in the Boneyard to be more exact. There was a 3 year old with a mission to dig, dig and dig!

He went running off through the playground - he remembered EXACTLY where to go, which surprised both Joe and I, we hadn't been in here for a year!

I followed behind the boys and snapped a few pictures.

Okay Disney buffs, does this year have significance in Disney history? All I can find is that Chip & Dale were introduced in 1947!

1005673528_csd6C-M.jpg

Henry and Joe on the bridge - Henry did NOT want to stop for this picture!

Ah! The glorious sand pit!
1005679620_5SGdc-M.jpg

As you can already see there are buckets and shovels at the Dig Site for kids to play with. :thumbsup2

And for those of you who care/haven't been in here before - it's not actually sand, it's kind of this weird pill material that does not get the kids dirty. Mommy likes.

Seriously creative!

1005696597_b9f5v-M.jpg

It's a HUGE area!

Both Joe and I camped out on those rocks for a while and watched Henry dig happily.

Henry in the sand (34 seconds)

Then I suggested we take turns on EE - Joe was all for this. So I whipped out my fancy schmancy phone and looked up the wait time...20 minutes.

Hmmm...

Joe told me to just go - like Henry would want to leave anytime soon!

Good point! You don't have to tell me twice, I was outta there and on my way to EE in a matter of moments.

When I got over to EE the wait time was actually a tad higher, but I noticed the Single Riders Line was open, so in I went! There were only about 5 people in front of me but the line didn't move very fast. It was probably 15 minutes before I got on.

I was seated with and behind some young boys, maybe around 10 years old that were completely psyched to be riding EE and were daring each other to not hold on. It was fun being in the middle of them and hearing their banter. I'll be at that stage with Henry before I know it.

The ride was awesome, as always! I just love it!

58365_10150244195185285_500090284_14326850_7562911_n.jpg

As you might be able to tell by the photo, the only boy brave enough to not hold on was the one right next to me!!

Back over to the Dig Site and this is what I find:

1005960847_MMMqr-M.jpg

:rotfl:

Joe wasn't feeling EE, which surprised me a bit. The last time he declined riding he wasn't feeling well, but thankfully he was feeling fine, just didn't feel like walking across the park in the sun. He was quite content chilling on the rocks and watching Henry. The plan was to come back later in the week anyway and do PM EMH's where he could ride in the dark.

They dug a big hole for a while, Joe was trying to figure out how deep the pit was, but they never reached the bottom before the sides kept caving in.

Then it was back to burying each other. Henry's turn!

And then mine

Henry's turn again
1005970719_FrKFF-M.jpg

I think he remembered doing this to Joe at the beach this summer

Eventually we peeled him away from the sand pit and went to check out some of the other aspects of the park. We were in the sand area for almost an hour. He could have stayed there twice as long!

1005973890_Gmkq8-M.jpg

After one slide down he bee-lined straight for the truck.

1006011461_yunxR-M.jpg

I got banned to a crate! ;)

1006074938_x3u3u-M.jpg

Henry noticed the truck was stuck, so being the good Samaritan he is, he tried to push it out. Unfortunately, it was just too stuck and we had to leave it there.

After playing and exploring for a while, both Joe and I were melting a bit in the hot sun. The Flights of Wonder show was still on my mind, but we first wanted to find some shade, air conditioning or anything with a breeze in attempts to cool down...

I can't imagine you were naughty enough to get banned to a crate!! Poor Mommy! :lmao:

So funny how a kid can be so happy with dirt and a shovel. Do you picture landscaping or road crew in his future?

It was SO hot that week!! I feel your pain!

I am happy to see that the sand area is shaded. Phew. It had to be shaded to enjoy it that week. TOO HOT! In all of my trip notes I spelled hot --- HOTTTTTT. The t's express the true hotness. :lmao:

Thank you for your prayers! We are getting some good news about the progress, so it's been better today than the past few.

A Donald Breakfast there would be really fun! Was it a TS then?

The bucket, shovel and dessert really make this kids meal a great value I think. Henry was so excited to bring his bucket and shovel into the dig site!

I'm glad all my TR people don't mind us holding the table - I kinda figured no one would give 2 hoots on these boards. :rotfl: Now if I ventured off the TR boards.... I can't believe what people get heated about on other boards on the DIS!

I'm glad things are getting better for your family!

I'm not really sure if it was a TS other then the breakfast with Donald! It was cute though! That fixin's bar was about where the buffet was! Funny story, DD was almost 4 that trip and she was wearing a brand new denim skort! I didn't realize it was a bit to big for her! When she was walking back from the buffet with me her skort fell down! She was behind me so I didn't see it! A lady pointed it out to me and I turned around, there was little DD shuffling along with her skort down around her ankles, holding her plate with both hands! :lmao::rotfl2: I ended up having to make a belt out of my camera bag strap to get her through the day :lmao:

Yeah, I don't venture off the TR/PTR board for that very reason! A lot of people get really bent out of shape over nothing!

Great update! It looks like Henry had a fabulous time digging in the sand! I love that it isn't real sand too! I hate that dusty, yucky mess that gets all over!

Glad you got to ride EE! I really wish we had been able to in January! But it was down the day we were in AK! I wonder if I'll be able to DH to ride with me in a few weeks!

Can't wait to hear about the rest of the day!

Awww the pictures of Henry playing in the sand are priceless!! Thankfully that area is shaded!!! Glad he had such a great time at the Boneyard!!

YAY for Mom being able to go ride EE! I really enjoy that ride too and look forward to my next attempt on it LOL!!!!

Nice post...love all the pics from that Boneyard area. We have sadly not taken Alexa there either.:sad2: Bad parents!
On our last trip in May it I just thought it would be brutally hot in there. Good to see that it is shaded. I was also worried about all that sand, but Im glad to read that it isnt sand at all. Looks like lots of fun and we will definately have to take Alexa next May:thumbsup2

We avoided the big dig last time cause I was terrified of the mess and figured we would need to run right back to our hotel after. Never knew it wasn't real sand. NICE!!!!! Great tip!! :thumbsup2

Love the pics!! Looks like such a fun area to pass some time!!
