Basking in the Glow of the (not so) Creepy Clown -2/11-Pictures, Final Thoughts, PTR!

I did the backlot tour in 08. I got stuck on it. The las time I did it was in 99, so I'm not sure what has changed. But this time around they said we couldn't go to the catastrphe canyon and they had to take us out the gates and around, and they pretended like it was part of the ride. It was getting to be so long and I needed to get back to the hotel. I kind of laugh about it now, but I don't know if I'll tempt fate again and ever ride it. LOL!

Sounds like you had a magical day in DHS. I can not wait to try a carrot cake cookie. They look so yummy.

Just a way to get the Walt Disney in, I guess, and I would have never thought of it as anything else but that if you had not enlightened me. Jill and I will have to amaze our family and friends with the details of this falsehood in the future, making them think we actually have some knowledge of the NY transportation system. :rolleyes1

There are my boys, a very happy Henry with a bag in hand.

This is cute, and I think the buses are a very nice purchase.

The Mike and Sulley pictures are adorable. :goodvibes

Try the white chocolate macadamia nut cookie from Writer's Stop one of these days. It is fairly yummy, too.

Hmmmm DHS day, the last day star tours was running. A great way to start with a nice boat ride. I think I know at least some things that happened that day. :rolleyes1

BLT has alwys been one I do every once in a while too.

Have not been to the playground since the kids were real small.

Sully engulfing Henry is :rotfl2::rotfl2: only his manpri's sticking out.

I'm super duper late on this trip report, but I'm here and almost all the way caught up!

I love reading your reports since I can relate to everything so much with having a 3 year old boy myself. :goodvibes Things can get CRAAAZZYYY can't they? Hahaha. And I think I remember talking to you before about their birthdays and if I remember correctly, they're super close. (Jake is September 23rd)

What a great morning so far!

I've never been in the HISTK playground...I'm not even sure I could find it. It sure looks cute & fun, though.

Good catch on the WD subway; another thing I've never noticed, despite having lived in NY for ten years!

I would like a carrot cake cookie right now, please.

I love love love the pictures of Henry with the Disney buses. Such a sweet happy smile!

My next favorite pic is the one where Henry is disappearing into Sulley's fur.

Wow Brook great update!!:thumbsup2

We had not done the Back Lot Tour for a few years so we did it in 2009. And we got picked to be part of it. I told them as we were getting our "gear" on that I wanted one of the easy jobs (meaning not the one that gets soaked) & guess who is the one that got soaked!!! But it was a lot of fun & my DH & sons got really into the acting part on the boat which is really funny because they are usually very reserved & quiet. I wish I would have gotten a video.

It looks like you had a great morning at DHS. I hope it continues.

I love the pic of the three of you on the boat & the pic of Henry with the big hat it looks like he is wearing it.

My fav pic is the one when Sulley is giving him a big ol hug!! All you can see is part of Henry's legs.:cutie:

Love the pic of Sully Monster hug!! That's awesome!

The Backlot Tour looks like it's the same as it was the last time we rode it! Years ago. Anyone know what changed?

I so need to try me a carrot cake cookie!

We discovered the Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground in December. That place freaks me out a bit! As a pooh sized fluffy chunky mommy I kept freaking out that I couldn't get up those little tight holes to get to my kid if I needed to! I kept making Dash watch Jack Jack. I just kept looking around at all the possibilities of losing a kid in there! Maybe it was my pregnant paranoia! :lmao:

Jack Jack is just that much younger than Henry. He loved the red tongue slide and freaked out on the film slide and only would go down with Dash behind him. Too funny!

Buses look like an excellent purchase! I may have to bring those back for Jack Jack. He loves him some Mickey Mouse buses!

Glad y'all had a good day!! Looking forward to that 20 min boat ride to DHS next week!

Enjoy the trip report!! It's giving me great ideas for our trip in March!

Carrot Cake cooke....yum!! (Scrambling to put that on my list!!)

Yeay! So many fun things to comment on!

Your day started off great with the boat ride! I bet that was nice and relaxing!

Oh, I hope you had as good a day at DHS as you normally do -- so far, it seems to be holding true!

I ADORE the picture of Henry looking up at Bo! Sheer cuteness!!!

LOL! Who knew there were so many Buzzes in the gift shop!

I think the Backlot Tour is a good time -- like you said, it's not something you need to do everytime, but Catastrophe Canyon is really cool.

I never would have known the subway stop was inaccurate! :thumbsup2

Yum! I would really like a carrot cake cookie right about now!

Ah, I just melted over the picture of Happy Henry with his bag of buses!

Sully really gives big hugs, doesn't he? :lmao:

The boat ride was so nice. We loved that little perk of the resort! Disney boats are so relaxing and enjoyable.

I didn't even realize I had THAT many various Buzz pictures until I was doing the update. :rotfl: I can't remember if that was my goal in that shop, or if I was just snapping pictures and happened to take them all of Buzz!

I just love that picture of Henry with Sully. It's so stinkin' funny. Henry talked about it quite a bit and how Sully felt. :cutie:

Hannah just got home saw the slide and playground pics and said, "Where is that?" I confessed and it is added to the must do! I have never been in the TSM store or seen the Monsters Inc meet and greet area.... add those to the list too!

Oh no! I'm sorry you now have to enter that hot box! :headache: But, it is very cool and fun to watch your kiddos have so much fun in there. I know as a child I would have loved that!

The Monsters Inc meet & greet is located right behind that shop across from the playground, it would be hard to find unless you knew just where it was or happened across it like we did!

I have not seen that meet and greet area either....we will have to find it on our next trip. Henry looked so cute with Sully....it looked like he was devoured by him! Adorable and great that the photopass photographer caught it! Alexa looked a bit nervous watching that video. Hopefully she will actually go up and meet them when we are there:thumbsup2 She did really enjoy seeing the pictures and video of Henry on the playground. We are making that a must do for our next trip.

It is really hard to see and find! It's behind the gift shop, so you have to go through the shop to even see that it's there. Kinda strange that it can't be seen well from the main walkway.

I hope Alexa is brave and goes to meet Mike & Sully! They are very nice monsters. ;) She will have a blast on that playground!

Allow me to wow you with my Hannah Montana knowledge :rolleyes1 That is a chicken coop. It used to be a rundown plain wooden boring shack. But Miley's grandma tells her cute farmhand/Miley's crush that he can be in charge of the chickens and sell the eggs. So they decide to fix it up together. Then they get in a fight, and Miley stays up all night painting it so he'll forgive her. :thumbsup2 I personally love that Chicken Coop, and it was my favorite thing on the Backlot Tour! We hadn't seen the Tour in any previous incarnation either, and thought it was okay, but we probably won't do it again for awhile. I love the pictures of the HISTK playground-we saw part of the water gun while eating at Studio Catering Co., but that was it.

:lmao: I'm wowed!!! That makes a lot of sense now. And from the bits I have seen of Hannah Montana, the colorful paint job suits something she would do. I was just baffled by the egg sticking out the back and the crazy paint. And despite it being LOUD, it's does have cuteness to it!

The HISTK playground is very cool. I have tons of pictures of it over the years. I wonder if the rumor that they plan to change it to a Bug's Life will ever hold true? Sure would be easy and make sense!

Love the pictures of Henry with Mike & Sully and on the playground. He's just adorable! Those toy buses look like pretty cool toy. Levi would have loved those when he was little.
I'm glad you were able to get some TSM fastpasses!

The meet with Mike & Sully was a lot of fun. The eye rub/hug made me laugh.

I was happy to have those TSM fastpasses too! I was hoping Henry would be able to do it on his own like he did for Buzz. We'll see....!

Awww, how sweet is this pic of Henry!:goodvibes Too cute Brook! If you look at it just right, it looks like he's wearing the sorceror hat too!

You got some fabulous shots of HS too girl! I want to slow down and capture those details as well.:thumbsup2

My nephew would LOVE those miniature Disney buses!

Sweet little Henry has graduated to big slide! He looked so small on it yet totally confident!:goodvibes

Looks like you had amazing time at HS! Glad Bo was there too, did you say hello?:goodvibes

LOL, that picture of Henry meeting Sulley is absolutely adorable and hilarious at the same time. I liked the video too.

Great update. I used to never really care for DHS (or MGM back in the day...) but now it's growing on me a lot!

Great update Brook! I love being able to take the boat. It's fun to have a little relaxing ride and be off of your feet for awhile.

My last trip was the first time I had ever done the Backlot Tour too and I thought it was pretty neat! The costume shop was my favorite part. I love seeing things behind the scenes.

Henry in his manpris is adorable! He's getting to be such a big boy. :)

I agree with you about the boat! It's so relaxing and enjoyable.

It was very cool to see actual workers designing things on the Backlot Tour. I really enjoyed seeing the scene and prop shops since that is what I did years ago when I was involved with theater. From the reviews I have read sometimes you'd see an actual show being filmed when you rode it, so I can see how that would be incredible! Too bad they don't have that still.

So many great updates! And so many adorable pictures of Henry. He is so stinkin' cute. I have not tried a carrot cake cookie yet. It is on my to do list for June.

Thank you! :goodvibes It's unreal how much he has grown since September too.

The carrot cake cookie is delish! It seems it's one of the favorites from the Writer's Stop.

This is a great TR! :thumbsup2 I am loving it! :goodvibes Your son is adorable! :) And I love the manpris! :rotfl2:

:welcome: Thank you! Aren't those manpris hilarious? My Mom got them for him and she laughed so hard the first time she saw him in them!

Ah you proved my point with your ride on the Backlot Tour: everyone should TRY everything at Disney at least once!

Love the buses.....I think that's what I'll get for Liam as a gift from my January trip. Thanks for the idea

Exactly! I've read reports of families actually enjoying Sounds Dangerous even! There is something for everyone!

Your welcome on the idea! He'll love them. They are really cute. The only thing I have to say negative about them is that the rubber on the tires come off easily. Henry went through a phase recently of putting things in his mouth (again!) and he gave me a scare a couple times with them. However, the tires are teeny, so they might not even bother a toddler if swallowed.

Looked like a great morning at MGM, er I mean DHS Brook. (I hope it stays that way, you hinted that maybe your luck would change.)

Woohoo! You rocked that picture!

I've done the tour before, maybe the last time was in '01, but I don't remember that PT boat section where the guy gets hit with the huge wave. I've seen it on a lot of reports, but I don't remember seeing it myself. You'd think I'd remember that!

That's the way I look when my wife lets me buy something too. ::yes::

I was thinking that in some earlier pictures. "Those shorts are almost pants!"

I love this picture!

I thought you might appreciate that FP pic. ;) I actually did it throughout the trip because I liked yours so much and it was an excellent reminder of exactly what we did. :thumbsup2

The water scene is supposed to be from the movie Pearl Harbor--so whenever that came out is probably when they added it. Doesn't seem that long ago, so perhaps it wasn't there when you did go. It's pretty intense, but Catastrophe Canyon is the best part.

Great update Brook! I actually enjoyed the Backlot Tour when we did it too, but we've never done it again, not sure why :confused3

Henry looks so stinkin' cute with his buses, I wish my kids were still at an age to be overjoyed with such a simple purchase!

The picture of him disappearing in Sulley's hug is too funny, how great that the photographer captured that.

And, check out Henry, graduating to the big kid slide on the playground, go Henry! :cheer2: I agree, that playground is too cute. We've only been in there once though, the boys were 9 & 4 on our first trip and they had a ball in there, but the next time at ages 10 & 6 they weren't even the slightest bit interested in it :sad2:

I know before I know it Henry won't be entertained by 3 Disney buses for $10, instead it will be some $100 gaming system. :sad2:

Oh boy! SIX and he didn't want to play?!?! Eeeeeeek! I better treasure these last few visits in the next few years! I will force him to stand with Zurg over at Buzz Lightyear until they take him away, but I can't force him to go down a slide. Maybe he'll humor his Mom though...wouldn't that be a hoot?

I think there may actually be a few things (very few) that I probably won't ever get to just because my kids are too old. Like that fantastic playground where Henry seemed to be having the time of his life. Ahhhhh.... well, maybe when I get to be a grandma.

I have to agree, that picture of Henry "hidden" in Sully is just too adorable!! What a fabulous shot! :cloud9:

ETA: Both times I've done the BLT, have been duds. The first time, some college kids acted like buffoons, and were goofy to the point of ruining it; the second time, the ones who got chosen were like animatrons and didn't do anything. It was just sad.

Yes! When you get to be a Grandma you'll have to take your grandbabies in there and run wild with them. Or, perhaps on a future solo trip you can have a DIS meet there. Good excuse to hit a slide or two!

I was really happy the Photopass Photographer captured that hug with Sully! It was a sweet moment.

That is too bad about the Backlot Tour! Our actors didn't do anything either, but it was hilarious! Just something about the way the director handled it and their VERY delayed reactions. :rotfl: I would love to be chosen for that sort of thing, it would be a blast!

Awesome update.

When did the backlot tour become so cool? I will confess. I have only done it once and that was years and years ago. Probably around a time when my kids were small enough to enjoy the "Honey I shrunk the kids" playground. Now that's a long time ago. Almost went on the tour in May, but never made and well, September - we only spent a couple hours in HS.

Maybe some of the east meet west girls will want to go there in May. I am seriously going to take some pics.

You are the second person I've heard rave about the Writer's stop, so I must stop in for a visit.

Ah - lovey the bus. How cute! What a great purchase.

Also - I had no idea they made so many different buzz lightyears! Very cool!

No idea when it became cool!! From what most people say it's terrible compared to what it used to be, but we liked it! You'll have to give it a try again, you will capture some awesome action shots I'm sure! (and there is a possiblity our trip will be delayed into May--so if we end up there the same time as you, I'll ride with you!)

The Writer's Stop is just cute inside. It looks like a true coffee shop. There is a little bakery case, a few tables, it's cozy. I wouldn't mind spending some downtime in there with an iced mocha and a book. Of course that won't happen until the 3 year old is at least 13....;)

Super Awesome update Brook!! WOWzers what a great time was being had at DHS!!!!

Can I just say I also love the Backlot Tour and I would love to be one of those volunteers I would so OVERact that scene!! I would be divebombing on the boat and screaming, it would be so much fun!!!!!

Oh my beloved Carrot Cake Cookie, how I will enjoy you again in such a short time LOL!!!!

Henry is just adorable! I love the photo of him and Sully when he gets swallowed up...how cute was that!!!

Me too! I would LOVE to be picked to act out that scene! It would be so fun! I am thinking we'll hit the Backlot Tour again this coming trip, just seeing all my pictures again made me want to be there.

Maybe it was you who recommended that cookie? I just recall reading about it in someone's TR and it looked, and sounded, devine...and it was. Yummo!

Sully was very cute with Henry, so was Mike! We'll probably be meeting them again on the next trip-it was a great meet!

LOL!

You got stuck on the Backlot Tour? How, where?!?! How strange! And that is awful about skipping Catastrophe Canyon - that is the best! I can imagine they just filled in that time with boring talk about random stuff, that would be such a turn off to the experience to me too. Seems like you have bad Backlot Tour luck!

Sounds like you had a magical day in DHS. I can not wait to try a carrot cake cookie. They look so yummy.

Okay-so I just noticed your ticker. 3 weeks until your 15 day trip and it's your FIRST trip AND you are keeping it a secret from your DD I assume?!??! How freaking FUN! Oh my word. She is gonna FLIPPPPP! And 15 days?! Hooo yes! Seriously. Rockin'. I'm so excited for you!

And yes, that carrot cake cookie is NUMMY!!

Love the picture of Sulley and Henry.

Just a way to get the Walt Disney in, I guess, and I would have never thought of it as anything else but that if you had not enlightened me. Jill and I will have to amaze our family and friends with the details of this falsehood in the future, making them think we actually have some knowledge of the NY transportation system. :rolleyes1

This is cute, and I think the buses are a very nice purchase.

The Mike and Sulley pictures are adorable. :goodvibes

Try the white chocolate macadamia nut cookie from Writer's Stop one of these days. It is fairly yummy, too.

You know what? I didn't even think about it being for Walt Disney. :rotfl: I have seen that subway stop every trip and never ONCE did that cross my mind, but the fact that it's incorrect did every trip. Makes way more sense.

And I think I would happily take a subway train to anything Walt Disney related! ::yes::

You are too funny about using the subway system info. If you ever do that, you gotta tell me about their reactions!

The buses were a great purchase--and they were only $10 too! Maybe if Jill has a little boy someday. Have you been to the WL lately? ;)

I will have to try the white chocolate macadamia nut cookie - that is my favorite type of cookie! Thanks for the tip!

I think you do know a couple things that happened this day! I keep meaning to print out the pictures of Henry at our meeting spot doing "the moves" and the pic of us too and send them to Jordan. Gotta do that, gotta do that!

Isn't that picture with Sully hilarious? It was such a sweet meet!

I do love the Sulley pic and the evidence of Henry....
Little boy legs and sandals.

I thought of you that day when I dressed him in his manpris! ;)

Glad Henry finally got his busses. ;) That carrot cake cookie looks yummy!

We couldn't deny him any longer of those buses. The fact that he asked for them in every single shop truly made us know that he would enjoy them. And he did--and still does! He chose his bus to sleep with again tonight.

Hello you! Glad you found me! I see your wonderful ticker there of a little GIRL on the way, congrats!!!

Yep, Henry is September 1 - they are very close! And yes, oh my, things can get craZy. It's wonderful and so difficult all at the same time. You'll have to let me know how it goes once Mallory (LOVE the name!) is added to the family, I can't even fathom it. :faint:

What a great morning so far!

I've never been in the HISTK playground...I'm not even sure I could find it. It sure looks cute & fun, though.

Good catch on the WD subway; another thing I've never noticed, despite having lived in NY for ten years!

I would like a carrot cake cookie right now, please.

The playground is a lot of fun - I can imagine if I ever went into it as a child I would have had a blast, so it's fun to watch Henry buzz around in there. It's located pretty much across from the Backlot Tour. There is a CS next to it. It's hidden a bit.

You are too funny about the subway stop! You probably just glaze over that area - we'll be the same in a couple years I bet. When I was living in Minnesota and wishing to live here we used to walk reallyyyyy slowly through the fake New York. I would gaze around and dream. I'm so happy to be back! :lovestruc

I'm thinking I will be torn next trip between a treat from the Writer's Stop or Starring Rolls. Both are so stinkin' good.

I love love love the pictures of Henry with the Disney buses. Such a sweet happy smile!

My next favorite pic is the one where Henry is disappearing into Sulley's fur.

He was just thrilled with those buses---and still is! Tonight I pulled one of of his "Cars & Trucks" bin and he instantly lit up. They were such a great purchase.

Isn't that Sully pic funny? It was so cute how he just swallowed him up like that. Henry told me later about how it felt, it was cute to hear it all from his perspective.

My fav pic is the one when Sulley is giving him a big ol hug!! All you can see is part of Henry's legs.:cutie:

Oh that is so cool about being picked for the Backlot Tour! Were you there to be first in line? I would love to get picked--and to be the one to get soaked! What an experience! I know MeMom's son and his friend once got picked to be on the boat and they seemed to do an awesome job too!

I really like that pic of Henry in front of the hat too. The PP photographer lined it up just right!

Glad y'all had a good day!! Looking forward to that 20 min boat ride to DHS next week!

From what I know about reviews I have read about the Backlot Tour is most people compare it to what it was long ago when it was a live set--sometimes you'd see a show being filmed, or someone famous. They also had sets from shows like the Golden Girls set up. Those would be very cool to see, but we liked what we did see!

There are TONS of possibilities of loosing a kid in that playground! It can be frightening. When Henry was younger we once lost him for a minute, he just stopped in one of those caves instead of walking all the way through. Freaked me out! I would do the same for Henry if he had an older brother! I don't think it was your pregnant paranoia at all. It's a very cool playground, but there are oodles of nooks and crannies. Henry isn't much of a runner, so it's easy for us to keep track....usually!

Isn't it strange to see the age difference now? When they are older it won't even matter. I bet Jack Jack will be a pro on the film slide pretty soon though...!

The buses are only $10 too - a great purchase. I noted to Heidi above that the only negative thing I have to say about them is that the rubber on the wheels comes off easily. Henry went through a phase of sticking things in his mouth in September/November so we had a couple scares and I would have to tell him constantly to take them out. However, the tires are TEENY, so even if a toddler swallowed them, it might not matter.

Enjoy the trip report!! It's giving me great ideas for our trip in March!

Carrot Cake cooke....yum!! (Scrambling to put that on my list!!)

Awww, how sweet is this pic of Henry!:goodvibes Too cute Brook! If you look at it just right, it looks like he's wearing the sorceror hat too!

My nephew would LOVE those miniature Disney buses!

Sweet little Henry has graduated to big slide! He looked so small on it yet totally confident!:goodvibes

Looks like you had amazing time at HS! Glad Bo was there too, did you say hello?:goodvibes

I thought the same thing when I saw the pic! The PP Photographer did a great job of lining it up. I love Henry's expression too.

I always feel like I miss out on the details at DHS. I love walking down the streets, but rarely stop to take detail shots. I gotta remember to get a few more next trip!

Oh ya, we all said hello to Bo! I cannot recall if we all got pics with him though...we usually do!

LOL, that picture of Henry meeting Sulley is absolutely adorable and hilarious at the same time. I liked the video too.

Great update. I used to never really care for DHS (or MGM back in the day...) but now it's growing on me a lot!

Isn't that funny? It was a great meet. I hope we get to it again this coming trip!

I felt the same way about DHS the first time we went. It was fun, but, nothing special. Since then it has really grown on me. We always have a fantastic time there. The pace just seems slower too with all the shows, so I think that helps. We just like to wander it even, it's so pretty with all the palm trees! (plus I know AIE helps a lot for you! If our 15 day trip works out (fingers crossed) I plan to make it to a show. Makes me nervous to have Henry in there, but I'll just plan for a quick exit if necessary!)
